lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.
* WHERE...The lower Cape Fear River including downtown
Wilmington.
* WHEN...Until 3 PM EDT this afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Portions of Battleship Road and USS North Carolina
Road observe minor coastal flooding up to one foot in depth.
In downtown Wilmington, sections of Water Street observe minor
flooding up to one half foot in depth. Check with local
officials for any road closures or impacts.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Affected areas listed are based on
average tide conditions. Additional locations may experience
flooding during periods of heavy rainfall, high winds, or

* IMPACTS...Portions of Battleship Road and USS North Carolina
Road may become impassable. In downtown Wilmington, flooding
expands on Water Street from Orange Street to Red Cross
Street. The lowest portions of Water Street between Princess
and Orange Streets may become impassable. Flooding worsens on
the lowest spots of River Road and adjacent residential roads,
south of River Road Park. Route 133 at Little Mallory Creek
may be flooded. Highway 421 Truck near Carolina Beach Road
begins to flood. Check with local officials for any road
closures or impacts.

of rip currents.

Thursday through Thursday evening.
* IMPACTS...Low-lying roads and locations along the Intracoastal
Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks may observe minor coastal
flooding. Check with local officials for any road closures or
impacts. Longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers
into rip currents, piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas.
It may sweep swimmers off their feet, making it difficult to
return to shore.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Affected areas listed are based on
average tide conditions. Additional locations may experience
flooding during periods of heavy rainfall, high winds, or
other factors.

experience minor coastal flooding. Low-lying roads and
locations along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal
creeks may observe minor coastal flooding. Check with local
officials for the latest information regarding coastal flood
impacts and closures. Longshore currents can sweep swimmers
and surfers into rip currents, piers, jetties, and other
hazardous areas. It may sweep swimmers off their feet, making
it difficult to return to shore.

* WHERE...The lower Cape Fear River including downtown
Wilmington and Inland Brunswick Counties.

* IMPACTS...Portions of Battleship Road and USS North Carolina
Road may become impassable. In downtown Wilmington, flooding
expands on Water Street from Orange Street to Red Cross
Street. The lowest portions of Water Street between Princess
and Orange Streets may become impassable. Flooding worsens on
the lowest spots of River Road and adjacent residential roads,
south of River Road Park. Route 133 at Little Mallory Creek
may be flooded. Highway 421 Truck near Carolina Beach Road
begins to flood. Check with local officials for any road
closures or impacts.

.SYNOPSIS...
With high pressure in control from the north, cooler and drier
than normal conditions can be expected through the remainder of
this week before temperatures and humidity return to normal
early next week. A disturbance offshore will bring shower and
thunderstorm chances for coastal areas Friday and Saturday.

.UPDATE...
No major changes are necessary with the latest update. Nudged
dew points down a few degrees for this afternoon with ample dry
air at the top of the mixed layer expected to be mixed down.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
High pressure to the north will build southward, bringing
unseasonably cool and dry air to the region. We trended
temps/dewpoints lower based on the latest guidance. May see
brief light showers late this afternoon and tonight, especially
near the coast where moisture convergence will be a bit higher.
Highs today will be below normal in the lower to mid 80s with
lows tonight a good bit below normal, likely near 60 inland and
closer to 70 at the coast.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
Relatively uneventful forecast period here. The upper trough pattern
that has been sitting over the area for days finally lifts late
Thursday, as the parent upper low over New England moves
northeastward into Quebec and New Brunswick. Meanwhile, the eastern
extent of a broad anticyclone over the Plains starts reaching into
the Deep South, causing heights to rise Thursday night through
Friday night. Meanwhile, at the surface, high pressure over the Ohio
River Valley will shift east-southeastward towards the mid-Atlantic
region.
Mostly sunny skies in store Thursday, with highs in the lower 80s.
Lows Thursday night in the low-to-mid 60s.
Things get slightly more interesting Friday, as the old frontal
boundary well offshore gets pushed a little closer to the coast,
along with its associated coastal trough and weak low pressure. This
adds more moisture to the column, but creates only modest chances
for afternoon showers and storms closer to the coast. Highs Friday
are nearly identical to Thursday, with lows Friday night perhaps a
degree or two warmer than the previous night. Maybe the most notable
part is the northeasterly breeze Friday, where a few gusts up to 20
mph are possible, particularly closer to the coast.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
More of the same in the long term forecast period. Saturday looks
similar to Friday, albeit a couple of degrees warmer for the high
and low. The rain chances, such that they are, decrease Sunday and
especially into early next week, as broad surface high pressure in
the mid-Atlantic extends into the Carolinas. Unfortunately, this
means a warming trend kicks in, with highs edging back in the lower
90s again. Lows in the lower 70s.

.AVIATION /14Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
High confidence in prevailing VFR conditions through 12Z/22,
although can't completely rule out brief MVFR ceilings,
especially near the coast at KILM/KCRE/KMYR where moisture will
be a bit greater.
Extended Outlook...Predominantly VFR through the week as
high pressure maintains control to our north. A stalled front
offshore and persistent easterly winds poses a risk for
restrictions due to passing low clouds and showers, mainly near
the coast late this week and over this weekend.

.MARINE...
Through Tonight...Unseasonably cooler and drier high pressure will
build from the north keeping a decent pressure gradient across the
nearshore Atlantic waters off the SE NC and NE SC coasts. Winds and
seas will remain elevated but are expected to peak just below Small
Craft Advisory levels (25 kt/6 ft). Swells will continue to diminish
while wind waves increase leading to more choppy conditions.
Thursday through Sunday...Northeasterly winds continue to
dominate through the extended period. Pressure gradient tightens
a good bit Thursday and Friday, kicking up sustained wind
speeds up to 20 kts. Small Craft Advisory conditions look more
likely Friday, but may even occur as early as Thursday. Winds
die back down to 10-15 kts Saturday and Sunday. Seas mostly 3-5
ft, with 6 ft wind waves noted on Friday. Outside of wind waves,
a subtle southeasterly swell is noted at 8-9 seconds.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
High astronomical tides from the recent full moon along with
residual runoff from recent heavy rainfall, lingering swells from
Ernesto, and persistent northeast to east winds will keep tide
levels elevated into late week. Thus, minor to perhaps moderate
coastal flooding is expected, especially along the Lower Cape
Fear River.
