.SYNOPSIS...
Dry high pressure will move across the region into Thursday night.
Moisture ahead of the next in a series of fast moving low pressure
systems will arrive on Friday. That system will move away quickly
Friday night, with another weak high moving through for the weekend.
Yet another storm system may affect the region early next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
As of 1240 AM EST Thursday: The forecast remains on track. Solid
area of cirrus just to our southeast, but struggling to reach this
far north. As a result, good radiational cooling conditions will be
in store. Dropped temperatures a degree or two for most the CWA as
clear skies will lead the way for colder air.

SW winds should be maintained through the next 24-30 hours as
surface high pressure drifts eastward along the upper Gulf Coast
tonight and tomorrow. A compact upper disturbance will slide across
the Midwest tonight...yet any semblance of forcing will remain
shunted well to our north, and profiles will be too dry for much
more than a few high cirrus overnight. Tomorrow, with the upper
disturbance becoming ever more distant...the bulk of upper clouds
should be scoured out, and a comparatively warm, sunny day will be
in store, with near-or even above-normal afternoon highs.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 2pm EST Wednesday: Fairly potent looking southern track storm
system looks to cross over the area on Friday, once again bringing
rain and possible thunder.  By Friday morning, strong surface low
will be anchored along the southern MS river.  Easterly surface flow
over the GSP area will limit moisture increase ahead of the system,
however, with more southerly winds and better moisture advection not
commencing until Friday afternoon. Dewpoints will still be in the
30s Friday morning, and warm frontal boundary with better moisture
behind it will begin to raise dewpoints into the low to mid 50s by
Friday evening.  By Friday evening, main dynamical thrust of system
may be exiting the area, so timing is suspect as main dynamics move
through before sufficient moisture arrives to create significant
convective storms.  However, this needs to be carefully watched as
small changes in low-level wind directions could lead to better
moisture return.  Currently, most models have very low levels of
SBCAPE through the Day on Friday, with the southeast edge of the GSP
CWA beginning to see stronger combinations of shear and instability
late in the day.  Shear will be quite strong, with 80 to 100 kts of
deep-layer shear, so potential is there should stronger moisture
return actually develop.

With the Friday system, pwats peak at about an inch and a quarter
and precip totals range from a half inch to an inch, with possibly
locally higher amounts in upslope areas on the southwest
Appalachians.  Much reduced rainfall expectations relative to the
system that went through on Tuesday should limit hydro concerns to
isolated locations, without widespread high water issues.
Temperatures Friday morning will be cold enough, mostly at higher
elevations, for some of the early precip to be light snow, with a
transition to rain in the afternoon.  Snow is also likely at higher
elevations with lingering showers behind the main FROPA Friday night.

Major cold front crosses through the area Friday night with strong
westerly winds behind it.  Higher elevations, especially along the
TN state line area could see winds strong enough for an advisory
Friday afternoon/evening.  Strong cold and dry advection behind this
front will give clearing conditions on Saturday will rapidly
dropping dewpoints, and lows Sunday morning a cold 5 to 10 degrees
below normal.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 2:45PM EST Wednesday:  Cold Sunday morning with zonal upper
flow quickly gives way to next upper short wave passage Sunday
afternoon.  Dry air mass will scarcely give clouds with this
shortwave passage, however, with the next chance for precip not
coming in until Monday or Tuesday.  Extended models show the
development of a long wave structure with a deep upper trough over
the eastern CONUS with numerous chances for shortwave passages
through Wednesday.  This pattern also gives generally lower
thickness levels and increased chances for snow over the GSP area
through Wednesday.  Moisture is still limited.  Still the EC model
has some snow over most of the CWA on Tuesday.  The GFS model,
however, restricts frozen precip to the higher elevations.  Overall,
chances for winter conditions increase into mid next week, though no
major event is current on the horizon.

.AVIATION /06Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
At KCLT and elsewhere: VFR conditions will prevail through the
forecast period. Deck of cirrus is settled to our southeast and
should remain that way for the rest of the night. Winds have
subsided with light winds (<6 kts) out of the southwest.
Southwesterly winds pick back up throughout the day Thursday, with a
northwesterly component at KAVL. Increasing clouds will begin to
move in from the southwest by daybreak Friday as cigs will gradually
lower from there.

Outlook: Calmer weather through today. Another storm system arrives
on Friday and early Saturday with associated restrictions. Drier
weather will be in store to finish out the upcoming weekend.

threat. Areas along and south of Interstate 85 may have the greatest
