Dry conditions with near-normal to below-normal temperatures will be
the rule in the short term period. Temperatures are on track to peak
in the upper 30s to lower 50s this afternoon. Overnight lows are
forecasted to be in the mid-20s to lower 30s.

The upper-level troughing currently in place across the eastern
CONUS will persist through tomorrow (Sunday). Meanwhile, the
atmospheric column at large remains dry courtesy of a sprawling
Arctic high pressure system. This setup will support west to
northwest winds at 10-15 mph today and tomorrow, with stronger winds
expected in the north Georgia mountains -- 15-20 mph with gusts of
25-30 mph.

The passage of a dry cold front tomorrow will reinforce the cool air
in place across much of north GA. Highs are forecasted to be in the
upper 40s across portions of north GA; in the mountains,
temperatures are not expected to get out of the 30s. Across central
GA, highs in the 50s are expected.

Have introduced slight chance PoPs (less than 25%) across far north
GA (primarily the northern-most row of GA counties) after around 8
PM on Sunday evening as moist, west-southwesterly flow aloft
overruns the Arctic airmass associated with the aforementioned high

Key Messages

 - Accumulating snow remains a concern for portions of northern
   Georgia Monday and Tuesday.

 - A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Dade, Walker and
   Catoosa Counties.

 - A period of cold weather will build in this week, with
   hazardous wind chills expected Wednesday morning.

Regarding the Snow Potential in North Georgia Monday and Tuesday

Model guidance continues indicate a weak shortwave tracking
through the Southeast Monday and Tuesday. As this wave moves
northeast is will interact with a Arctic airmass and zone of
frontogenesis between 800 and 600 mb. The area over which this
frontogenetic band sets up will likely see snowfall and depressed
surface temperatures Monday. Snowfall should continue into Tuesday
morning as the wave and forcing move gradually eastward. Guidance
continue to focus the core of the band over portions of Tennessee,
however there was enough uncertainty in the southward extent of
the snowfall for us to issue a Winter Storm Watch for Dade, Walker
and Catoosa Counties this afternoon. Counties slightly east of
this region remain at risk for a possible Winter Weather Advisory
(later shifts can reevaluate). The 25th to 75th percentile of our
going forecast favors 1 to 3 inches of snow in Dade, Walker and
Catoosa Counties, with higher totals occurring at elevation. Snow
accumulations are not expected in the Atlanta Metro with this
event, though a couple flurries can be 100% ruled out Tuesday
morning.

The potential for Hazardous Cold Tuesday Night through Next
Weekend:

An Arctic airmass will surge into the region Tuesday night. As the
core of this airmass moves overhead Wednesday morning
temperatures should dip into the teens and lower 20s. Combined
with gusty northwest winds, these temperatures will result in
morning wind chills in the -5 to 15 degree range on Wednesday.
Temperatures will recover some through Friday, however there is a
high likelihood (>80% chance) that they remain below average
through the upcoming weekend. The potential exists for another
push of Arctic air next weekend.
