Main changes to the current forecast were to extend the Winter Storm
Warning a little further eastward. Also extended the Winter Weather
Advisory a little further south.

Across north GA:

Have made some updates to the weather grids this afternoon, mainly
for p-type. Model soundings show that light precip tonight should be
a snow/sleet mix at the start. By tomorrow afternoon, the warm nose
aloft begins to move in from the west and freezing rain will be come
more likely...probably mixing at times with rain and/or sleet.
Precip could briefly transition back to snow/sleet before ending.
Models haven't really adjusted the snow totals at this time but will
continue to monitor, especially right along the GA/TN/NC state line.
Sleet will undercut the snow totals some. Icing totals increased a
little from Whitfield over to far western Fannin county with the
newest runs and that is why the WSW was extended a little further
eastward.

Have also expanded the Advisory a little further south as models are
indicating some potential for light icing in most of those counties
added. Elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses will be
especially susceptible.

South of the Advisory:
Will have to monitor the model temp trends. There is some
potential for the Advisory to be expanded, especially across the
western suburbs of ATL. Temperatures are very borderline at this
time and if they come in colder, the potential for a wintry mix
will increase.

Key Messages

 - A wintry mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain is
   expected in northern Georgia between Monday and Tuesday
   morning.

 - The Winter Weather Advisory has been expanded southward to
   account for potential light ice accumulations Tuesday morning.

 - Expected slick spots on untreated roads, bridges and overpasses
   in north Georgia Monday through Tuesday.

Tonight through Tuesday:

The primary weather concern over the next 48 hours remains the
potential for a wintry mix of precipitation in northern Georgia.
The driver of the precipitation will be a weak shortwave trough
as it lifts towards the northeast and interacts with a
frontogenetic zone (between 800 and 600 mb) over northern
Georgia. Trends in the model guidance suggest light snowfall as
early as tonight near the GA/TN border. Rising temperatures and a
slight northward shift in the frontogensis zone may push most or
all of the frozen precipitation into Tennessee during the day on
Monday. Precipitation chances will spread back to the south Monday
night and Tuesday morning as the core of the shortwave passes by.
Mid level warming during this period may result in a warm nose
near 850 mb that will favor mixed precipitation over snow Monday
night. By Tuesday morning the depth of the available moisture
layer may decrease to around 700 mb or lower, and this could
result in a transition to freezing drizzle before the event
concludes. All of the freezing precipitation should end by Tuesday
afternoon. However temperatures will remain at or below freezing
for a good portion of north Georgia through the afternoon. Total
snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible near the GA/TN
border and on the higher mountain peaks. Ice accumulations of a
trace to 0.15 inches are possible, with the greater ice totals
expected in far northwest Georgia (Dade, Walker and Catoosa
Counties). To account for changes in the ice forecast the Weather
Advisory was expanded southward by a row of counties.

Key Messages

 - Dangerously cold conditions with dangerous wind chills
   expected Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning

 - Another round of dangerously cold conditions appears likely
   next weekend following a system that is forecasted to bring
   rainfall across the area

A deep longwave trough will pivot across the eastern half of the
CONUS Tuesday night through Wednesday, driving strong CAA across the
Southeast as an Arctic high pressure system settles in. Dangerous
wind chills of -10 to 5 degrees are expected across much of north
Georgia and a portion of central Georgia, so will likely issue a
Wind Chill Advisory when the event draws near. Temperatures will
moderate somewhat on Thursday and Friday, but conditions will still
be chilly given forecasted winds of 10 to 20 mph (and gusts of 25-30
mph on Friday).

A shortwave trough progged to zip over the OH Valley and Mid-
Atlantic will produce an area of low pressure and another round of
rainfall across the area late Thursday night through Friday
afternoon. The cold airmass still in place across north GA during
this time frame will necessitate monitoring for wintry precipitation
mixing in with the rain across far north GA. There is much
uncertainty regarding temperature and moisture profiles with this
system, so for now, will advertise the potential for a wintry mix
without going into detail about precip types.

High pressure and strong CAA will re-establish themselves in the
wake of the shortwave trough, so dangerous wind chills are expected
next weekend, mainly in the morning hours of Saturday and Sunday.
Wind chills of 5 degrees or below could be felt as far south as a
line from West Point to Eatonton to Crawfordville, so will likely
need Wind Chill Advisories.

Will need to keep an eye on fuel moistures and fire weather
conditions on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday when the
aforementioned high pressure systems bring breezy, drying
conditions. Relative humidity on these days is currently
forecasted to drop to around 25% or lower in the afternoon across
at least some portion of the forecast area.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North and Central Georgia.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight...

A wintry mix is expected overnight across portions of north
Georgia. A Winter Storm Warning goes into effect for Dade, Walker,
and Catoosa Counties at 1 AM tonight. A Winter Weather Advisory
goes into effect across portions of north and west Georgia at 1 AM
tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday...

A mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain will continue
across portions of north and west Georgia Monday into Tuesday. The
Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 7 AM Tuesday. Snow
accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of up to
one tenth of an inch are forecasted. The Winter Weather Advisory
is in effect until 10 AM Tuesday. Ice accumulations of a light
glaze are forecasted.

Dangerous cold conditions will surge across the region Tuesday
evening through Wednesday morning, leading to wind chills of -5 to
10 degrees. Temperatures will moderate somewhat on Thursday and
Friday; however, dangerous cold conditions are likely next weekend.
