.SYNOPSIS...Hotter, near record breaking temperatures will return
across the interior through Friday. Building north wind will help
keep the coast cooler. Temperatures will finally return closer to
seasonal normals by early next week.

.DISCUSSION...Weekend high pressure alongside more robust influence
has allowed for more moderate conditions today. Highs have mostly
stayed no more than a couple degrees above 100 with pleasant marine
influence all along the coast with stratus lurking offshore. Smoke
from the Shelly fire has continued to impact the northern half of
the area with areas of moderate air quality especially along the
Trinity River.
As a minor shortwave overhead continues eastward, brief build up of
high pressure Wednesday through Friday will increase temperatures
back up about 5 degrees, bringing highs back near 110 in the
interior and at least isolated major HeatRisk. During this period,
strengthened high pressure will also aid in gusty north wind
alongshore, especially during the afternoon. Despite increased
temperatures, winds will help keep the coast consistently cool.
Models are in very good agreement that high pressure will finally
begin to ease ease this weekend, bringing interior highs back closer
to 90 by Sunday. In addition, there are indications that some
monsoon moisture will spread aloft Friday into the weekend. The vast
majority of ensemble members focus moisture east, but significant
uncertainty remains regarding the moistures interaction with low
pressure offshore. Should moisture move further west, isolated dry
thunderstorms are possible (currently <10 % chance) over high
terrain. /JHW

.AVIATION...Coastal stratus is expected to continue to be pushed
toward the beaches at most coastal locations this afternoon. This
will mean brief scattering or potential clearing of stratus at
coastal terminals. However, coastal stratus is forecast to push back
inland along the coastal plains and down river valleys again this
evening bringing IFR to LIFR conditions back to coastal terminals
overnight. Stratus is anticipated to linger at coastal terminals
until mid morning tomorrow before scattering or clearing. Ukiah will
remain VFR through this TAF period.

.MARINE...Northerly sustained winds to 20 knots will persist on the
western potions of the outer marine zones with seas to 6 feet by
late tonight. This will begin to spread towards the coastline, but
are expected to stop just shy of the inner waters by early tomorrow
morning. Conditions will get treacherous overnight as winds and seas
both increase. By late tomorrow night and into Friday morning, north
winds will increase substantially with gales and large, steep seas.
Therefore, a Gale Warning has been hoisted for the northern and
southern outer waters (zones PZZ470 and PZZ475, respectively).
Conditions will be hazardous through the end of the week with high
end gale gusts to 47 knots and seas of 13 to 15 ft wave heights by
Thursday afternoon through Friday night. /EYS

.FIRE WEATHER...Increased marine influence has eased
conditions today, though stronger high pressure will build again
through the end of the week. Interior valleys will continue to see
minimum RH as low as 10 percent though increased marine influence
will greatly moderate near coastal valleys. Winds will remain mostly
gentle and terrain driven with gusts below 15 mph except in terrain
funneled areas. Poor RH recoveries will continue overnight,
especially int thermal belts and around the Klamath mountains where
dry northeast flow overnight will extend burn Windows.
Late in the week, a building pressure gradient along shore will aid
in gusty north winds gusting up to 35 mph each afternoon for near
coastal areas. In addition such a pattern will enhance diurnal wind,
especially along the rim of the Sacramento Valley. This may promote
isolated critical conditions in southern Lake County into the
weekend. Models continue to suggest a plume of monsoonal moisture
late in the week Friday into the weekend. While the vast majority of
models place the plume east of the area, there remains a small (<
10%) chance of isolated dry thunderstorms over high terrain late in
the week. This period will enter the realm of high resolution
models over the next 24 hours which should hopefully give more
