.SYNOPSIS...Rain showers and snow at higher elevations will
continue through the evening and eventually ease off by tomorrow
evening. Slightly warmer temperatures and fair weather are
expected from Wednesday through the weekend.

&&

.DISCUSSION...An inbound Atmospheric River will expose the PACNW to a few rounds
of precipitation and stout wind gusts as plumes of moisture begin to
inundate the CWA. The ECMWF-850mb model heights show a distinct
thermal gradient as the offshore upper-level low matures. The
baroclinic zone is oriented just off the California coast. Plenty of
available moisture from the IVT/moisture flux, will converge with
the frontal boundaries producing precipitation through the late
afternoon and into this evening. While not being quite as strong
as the gusts from the previous few days', Del Norte interior and
coastal areas will reach 35-40 mph on exposed headlands and
ridges. Gusty winds will extend from Del Norte through Cape
Mendocino. HREF is forecasting a high probability for wind gusts
exceeding 40 mph along the coast and surrounding ridges north of
the Cape starting around 5 pm. After the warm sector of the
occluded front sweeps through, the cold sector will traverse the
area, bringing heavier bands of precipitation and potentially
higher wind gusts which will impact the aforementioned areas
during the evening hours.

Coastal precipitation and gusty winds will begin to wind down after
midnight as showers continue inland, with hi-res models highlighting
higher radar reflectivities in Southern Lake and Mendocino counties
into the early morning hours. Prominent southerly flow will again
allow orographic enhancement to produce heavier showers along
windward slopes of the Coast Ranges. By late-Tuesday morning, WPC
and QPF are forecasting 0.5-.75 inches in the previous 24 hours,
with 1-1.5 inches expected on windward slopes in the King Range and
mountains of Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. Isolated rain amounts
exceeding 2 inches are possible in the highest elevations. Lake and
southern Mendocino can expect 0.25-0.5 inches.

Snowfall is still impactful for this evening and through tomorrow
in northern Trinity County, with moderate QPF and snow levels
hovering just under 4,000 ft. HREF has a high probability for >5
inches on Highway 3 through Scott Mountain Summit by tomorrow

Otherwise, strong ridging is expected late this week through next
weekend. Long range models are forecasting highs in the 60's along
the coast and into the 70's inland and RH values below 50%.
Deterministic models have been showing a NE flow regime with
potentially strong downsloping winds in Lake County for late this
week as offshore high pressure migrates north. Details to come
regarding potential for wind advisories.

.Aviation...Another front will traverse through the region
through the rest of the day. Light to moderate rain is expected,
starting for CEC and ACV early this afternoon and making it to UKI
by early this evening. MVFR to potentially IFR conditions could
occur with bouts of heavier rain. Gusty southerly winds will also
accompany this front with gusts to 40 knots possible at CEC and to
30 knots at ACV. Gusts at UKI will most likely top out at around
20 knots. After the front passes overnight, some post frontal
showers may still persist.

.Marine...Southerly winds are forecast to increase through the
day today as a robust frontal system approaches. Full gales are
expected to continue north of Cape Mendocino into this evening
while near gale conditions are anticipated south of the Cape. The
westerly swell which started at around 16 feet at 15 seconds this
morning, has steadily declined into the afternoon and will
continue to decline tonight. Meanwhile, short period southerly
wind waves will be on the rise into this evening as southerlies
hit 30-40 kts. Northerly winds and steep northerly wind waves are
forecast to return by mid week. Another large NW swell group will
arrive around mid week, followed by longer period westerly swell
groups late in the week. As short period waves diminish late week
and winds nearshore become lighter, longer period westerly swells
may pose a slight risk to beachgoers due to increased wave run up.
