.SYNOPSIS...Seasonal conditions return as higher temperatures and
a drier air mass sets in. Highs around 100 are possible for the
interior by mid week. The return of moisture is likely as a
closed upper low lurks early next week.

.DISCUSSION...As the troughing pattern continues eastward and the ridging
continues we see the seasonal pattern returning with warmer
temperatures and northerly winds. Interior temperatures for today
look to reach the mid 80's for Del Norte interior while model
blends are showing 92 - 95 degrees for Humboldt interior,
specifically Orleans, Hoopa, Willow Creek. Burnt Ranch and
Hypampom are expected to max out around 88 - 90 degree range. As
additional troughs pass to the north of the area and long wave
patterns flatten out, we see warmer air advection as the thermal
trough swings westward spiking our high temperatures into 100 -
103 degree range for the same areas Wednesday. Also including
Ukiah and eastern Lake county in the 98 - 101 range for the mid
week warm up on Wednesday.
On the backside of the exiting trough we are also seeing higher
winds in the Del Norte interior with offshore flow gusting up to
30 kts late Tuesday night into Wednesday. Minimum RH values for
interior Del Norte will be around 31 - 34%, calming fire weather
or red flag concerns.
High temperatures will sustain through the week with an extremely
dry air mass and a mild to moderate HeatRisk (temps 90 nearing
100 degrees) forecast by mid-week and interior min RH's 15-25%.
Strong subsidence will enhance the interior thermal trough,
allowing elevated northerly winds to develop offshore
Wednesday/Thursday.
Long range ensembles indicate the potential for a closed upper low
developing off the PNW coast along with a surge of mid-level
moisture by late next weekend into early next week, although
confidence is low at this point. /EYS

.AVIATION...Marine stratus is limited this morning in development
although KACV has succumbed to the only isolated patch developing
offshore. Quarter mile visibility and shallow vertical visibility
will probably last until well after sunrise. The offshore patch is
expanding and merging as far north as Del Norte's southern boarder
and as far out as 15 - 20 miles offshore as of 12z. This could
reach KCEC by 13z or so. TAFs reflect this expectation at KCEC
with a tempo group anticipating LIFR reduced visibility and low
ceilings from this expanding stratus development. Given the recent
rain and lack of insulating cloud layers, there could be
considerable fog development before the daylight hours. Offshore
wind components and drier air could be limiting factors.
Otherwise, expect afternoon clearing for at least a few hours at
KCEC and KACV as ridging and subsidence set in. Northerly winds
will prevail by the late afternoon with southerlies returning
tonight. Mostly light and variable winds at KUKI with prevailing
VFR conditions. /EYS

.MARINE...High pressure will build over the waters through Mon
night, then persist and strengthen NW of the area Tue through Wed
before slowly weakening Wed night through Fri night. A low pressure
trough along the coast will interact with the high pressure to
produce NW winds that will become increasingly widespread Monday
night with northerly gale force gusts across the outer waters by
Tuesday evening. The resultant steep seas will reach up to 14 feet
in the outer waters. The trough will move off the coast by the end
of the week to produce mild offshore and southerly winds. /TRN
