.SYNOPSIS...
A storm system will impact our area into tonight. High pressure
will return over the weekend. Low pressure could impact the
Southeast early next week, before high pressure prevails mid to
late next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SATURDAY MORNING/...
00Z SPC mesoanalysis reveals a plume of MLCAPE in excess of 1000
J/Kg spreading into southeast Georgia ahead of the broken line
of showers/thunder pressing into the western part of the CWA.
Severe weather parameters spreading into the region ahead of
the line are not shabby either, SCP up around 12 units,
effective bulk shear in excess of 65 knots, lower LCL heights,
etc. So despite heading into the diurnal cooling cycle,
convection will need to be watched over the next several hours
as it traverses the CWA.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY/...
Saturday: The surface cold front will be offshore Saturday
morning with surface high pressure located over the southern
Mississippi River Valley. At 250 MB, a dual shortwave embedded
in a longwave trough axis will be centered over the Great Lakes.
The two shortwaves will move through the longwave trough axis
to the east with the overall phase velocity, however the overall
group velocity is for the longwave trough to retrograde west.
As this occurs, global guidance is in very good agreement of an
impressive 160/170 kt jet streak centering over NC with SC being
firmly placed in a RRQ. The main impact from this will be
increasing cirrus across the coastal counties and western zones.
For now, have raised the sky cover and nudged high temperatures
down a degree or two (mostly lower to mid 50s).

Sunday: The longwave trough axis will be located across the
Great Lakes Region with a weak mid-level wave exiting the SC
coast. Surface high pressure will move east and center near KJAX
with an Arctic cold front extending from TX to eastern TN.
Expect clear skies with no precipitation forecast. Highs Sunday
will be near 60 degrees with lows Sunday morning right around
freezing.

Monday: Surface high pressure will start to loose cohesion
Monday with another mid-level wave diving south out of British
Columbia in a classic McFarland Pattern. This shortwave will
drive the Arctic cold front all the way down into Mexico. As
this occurs, a shortwave will head northeast out of TX across
SC/ NC with a weak surface low pressure forming off of the SC
coast. Most of Monday morning looks dry at this point, with
chances of precipitation increasing Monday afternoon. Rain, and
possibly showers along the coast, will continue through the
overnight hours with temperatures slowly rising to near 60
degrees.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Tuesday: The shortwave out of British Columbia will be heading
east across the central United States Tuesday pushing the
coastal low away from the region (along with the precipitation).
As this occurs, an Arctic cold front will swing through the
region Tuesday night with temperatures and dewpoints rapidly
falling.

Wednesday: Early in the morning hours, temperatures will fall
into the mid to upper 20s across the region with wind gusts 20
to 25 mph. Wind chills are currently forecast to get into the
teens for all areas with some single digits possible across
interior GA. As such, wind chill advisories might be required
for Wednesday morning across portions of the area. During the
day Wednesday, 850 mb temperatures fall to several degrees below
zero which will put high temperatures firmly in the lower to
mid 40s across the area.

Thursday: Arctic high pressure will move overhead with Thursday
morning likely being the coldest morning of the year. Latest
NBM guidance shows a skewed distribution, with the mean being
warmer than the mode. Given that high pressure is forecast to be
directly overhead (almost ideal radiational cooling setup),
have trended the low temperatures down for Thursday morning
using the NBM 50th percentile. No precipitation is expected with
high temperatures near 50 degrees.

.AVIATION /00Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Broken line of showers with some thunderstorms will move through
the region this evening. KSAV appears to have the highest
probability of seeing thunder this evening, and we have added
VCTS to the forecast. Lower probabilities at KCHS/KJZI at the
moment, although that may need updated as the line approaches
closer to the area.

Otherwise, solid IFR conditions have developed at the terminals.
That will be the case through the balance of the evening. Cold
front will pass through the region during the overnight hours
turning winds into the west. Gusty winds (25 to 30 knots) are
present ahead of the front and will persist into Saturday
morning. In addition, VFR conditions return later overnight
after FROPA.

Extended Aviation Outlook:
Saturday: Surface high pressure will be located over the
southern Mississippi River Valley with VFR conditions across all
terminals. Some transient gusts in the 25 kt range Saturday
morning, with winds gradually decreasing in speed through the
afternoon as high pressure approaches from the west.

Sunday: VFR with surface high pressure located just south of
KSAV.

Monday: VFR conditions in the morning with an Arctic cold front
stalled near the NC/ SC border. A weak mid-level wave will
approach the region from the southwest ushering in lowering
cloud decks, rain, and eventual MVFR cigs.

Tuesday: MVFR cigs will finally collapse down to IFR Tuesday
morning as a weak coastal low rapidly moves northeast. IFR
conditions will then persist into the afternoon hours with
rainfall slowly exiting to the northeast. An Arctic cold front
will then cross the zones late Tuesday night/ early Wednesday
morning.

Wednesday: VFR conditions with surface high pressure moving
overhead.

.MARINE...
Tonight: A storm system will bring impacts to the coastal
waters. While the primary surface Low will be near the Great
Lakes region, it'll be rapidly strengthening, causing an intense
pressure gradient across our waters. The associated warm front
has already lifted north through our waters. The cold front will
cross from west to east after midnight. This will only enhance
the gradient, leading to nasty marine conditions for portions of
our waters. While winds have been slow to increase, they are
expected to more notably increase this evening, with the
strongest winds expected during the late evening and part of the
overnight hours across all of our waters. Winds are expected to
ease a few kt after midnight, but remain elevated through
daybreak Saturday, while shifting to the west.

Multiple marine headlines remain in place. We have Gale
Warnings for AMZ350 and 374. The warning for AMZ350 looks more
likely than 374, so we left that unchanged, but pushed back the
start time of the warning for 374. Winds in the Charleston
Harbor just haven't risen anywhere near what was expected, so
the Gale Warning was dropped and replaced with a Small Craft
Advisory. AMZ352-354 have Small Craft Advisories.

High Surf: Winds have not been as strong as anticipated, which
has caused seas to be lower. For this reason, we dropped the High
Surf Advisory for Charleston County.

Extended Marine Outlook:
Saturday: A cold front will be rapidly pulling east, or away
from the coastal waters with surface high pressure centered over
southern LA. Winds will be gusting to SCA criteria initially
Saturday, but will quickly fall below by the late morning hours.

Sunday: Surface high pressure will center near the FL/ GA
coastline with seas relaxing 1 to 3 ft and west winds less than
10 kt.

Monday: Winds will veer around from the northeast at 10 to 15
kt with gusts 15 to 20 kt. Seas remaining 2 to 3 ft.

Tuesday: Weak coastal low pressure will move northeast off of
the SC/ GA coast, with winds increasing to around 15 kt. Seas 3
to 5 ft.

Wednesday: Early in the morning hours, an Arctic cold front
will cross the waters with gusts around 30 kt. Currently it
looks like this will be a strong SCA event, with some gusts
around 35 kts (especially for the offshore GA waters). Seas 3 to
7 ft.
