.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will continue today before a storm system impacts
the area Friday into Friday night. High pressure will return
over the weekend. Low pressure could lift up the Southeast
coast early next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
14Z Update...only minor tweaks were made to 0-3 hr trends.

Previous discussion...
Sfc high pressure will remain across the region today, with the
center drifting to the NE tonight. H5 heights will remain oriented
from SW to NE across the Southeast U.S. The longwave trough axis
will remain well west, amplifying over the Great Plains through the
near term period. This pattern should keep the core of a 150 kt jet
across the region today and tonight. The jet is expected to maintain
rounds of cirrus clouds across SE GA/SC through today and tonight.
By late tonight, a deepening area of low pressure will slide over
the Mississippi River Valley, lifting the associated warm front
across the Deep South. As the warm front approaches from the SW,
moisture will slowly increase across the forecast area. Based on the
latest guidance, the forecast will remove the mention of showers for
tonight. High temperatures are forecast to range between 55 to 60
degrees this afternoon. Low temperatures from the upper 30s inland
to the mid 40s along the coast.

&&

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Potent shortwave lifts out of the Southern Plains and eventually
into the Great Lakes region Friday into Friday night. Strengthening
surface low follows suit, bringing a warm front north through the
local area late morning into the afternoon, followed by a cold front
pushing through late in the evening.

Rain chances increase from south to north through the morning with
the warm front, then additional activity is possible ahead of the
cold front later in the day into the evening. Though some guidance
would indicate the coverage in the latter will not be that great.
This event will not be a big rain maker with average rainfall totals
generally around a quarter of an inch. Locally higher amounts are
possible.

Another high shear/low CAPE environment. Wind fields are impressive
with shear on the order of 60-70 kt and low level SRH nearing 500
m2/s2. Instability would be the limiting factor as most guidance
indicates CAPE largely under 500 J/kg. With some uncertainty in
convective evolution and also the amount of destabilization that
will occur, the severe weather potential does not seem as clear cut
as earlier in the week. Regardless, there is a risk for strong to
severe storms with damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes.

Outside of convection, winds will become gusty later in the
afternoon and evening. Sustained winds increase to 20-25 mph, with
gusts peaking in the 30-40 mph range. A Lake Wind Advisory will
likely be needed. Otherwise, temperatures should reach the upper 60s
to around 70 as the area becomes positioned in the warm sector.

Rain chances rapidly decrease in wake of the cold front Friday
night. Dry weather is then expected through the weekend as high
pressure rebuilds. Gustiness will linger through much of the day
Saturday with a likely continuation of the Lake Wind Advisory.
Cooler temperatures in the low to mid 50s on Saturday moderate
closer to normal for Sunday. Lows Saturday night mainly in the low
to mid 30s.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Next weather system is slated to arrive later Monday into Tuesday as
low pressure originating in the Gulf of Mexico passes near or just
off the Southeast coast. Forecast uncertainty remains high as there
is still large spread in model guidance in the track and timing of
this feature. Regardless, rain chances return in the forecast but we
kept PoPs below 45%. High pressure and drier weather looks to return
on Wednesday.

.AVIATION /18Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
KCHS/KJZI/KSAV: VFR during the 18Z period. Mainly high clouds
anticipated through Friday morning, then some cumulus or
stratocumulus will begin developing by early Friday afternoon.
The primary impacts associated with the cold front will occur
after 18Z Friday.

Extended Aviation Outlook: A storm system will impact the area
Friday into Friday night, bringing potential for flight restrictions
and gusty winds. Gusty winds will linger into Saturday.

.MARINE...
The center of high pressure will track NE across the marine zones
today, remaining to the NE through tonight. A warm front will lift
northeast across the Deep South tonight. This pattern should support
west-southwest winds between 5-10 kts today. Winds are forecast to
back from the southeast this evening, remaining overnight between 5-
10 kts. Seas this morning are forecast to range between 3-4 ft,
diminishing to 2-3 ft tonight.

Friday through Tuesday: Winds and seas will increase on Friday as
the next storm system impacts the region. Solid Small Craft Advisory
conditions are expected to develop in the afternoon with a risk for
gale force gusts in portions of the coastal waters as well,
beginning as early as late Friday afternoon. Confidence was high
enough to hoist a Gale Watch for the Charleston county waters which
runs through Saturday morning. The Charleston Harbor and outer
Georgia waters could eventually need a watch as well, but conditions
appear more marginal there so will defer this decision to the day
shift. Winds turn westerly Friday night following fropa and remain
elevated into Saturday. Vast improvement expected Saturday night
into Sunday. Winds and seas could increase again Monday into Tuesday
as low pressure possibly passes along/off the Southeast coast. Still
a decent bit of spread between model guidance, so higher uncertainty
in forecast details at this time.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Minor coastal flooding is possible along the Charleston and Colleton
county coasts with the Friday morning high tide, occurring around
830 AM. Current forecast shows tide levels peaking right around 7 ft
MLLW. A Coastal Flood Advisory could be needed. No tide issues are
expected further south and into the Georgia coast.

area on Friday. Some of the storms could become severe with damaging
wind gusts and isolated tornadoes.

Lake Winds: Gusty winds are expected to develop over Lake Moultrie
Friday afternoon into Saturday. A Lake Wind Advisory could be
needed.
