* WHERE...Taunton River near Bridgewater.

* WHEN...Until tomorrow evening.

* IMPACTS...At 9.0 feet, Backwater flooding from the Taunton River 
  will cause flooding of lower Purchade Brook in Middleboro.  This 
  will cause Woloski Park to become impassable by most vehicles for 
  an extended period of time.  Beware of the dangers of crossing 
  flooded roadways. The water may be deeper than you think.  
  Floodwaters have the ability to damage roadways. Heed the advice 
  of local officials, and evacuate if asked to do so.

Sunny Saturday and blustery early, then winds slowly diminish
during the afternoon and turning. Less wind and mild Sunday and
Monday, along with dry weather accompanied by a mix of sunshine
and clouds. Then a very unsettled weather pattern develops
Tuesday through Thursday of next week, with a high degree of
uncertainty regarding temperatures and precipitation types.

Sub 980 mb low over the maritimes generating strong NW pressure
gradient across SNE at mid morning. This combo yielding good
mixing and gusty WNW winds, 25-35 mph. As this low lifts
northward later today and weakens, gusty NW winds this morning
will slowly ease by mid to late afternoon. Strong subsidence in
the NW flow aloft across SNE provides a very dry column, with
PWATs falling to a tenth of an inch, along with dew pts in the
upper teens and 20s. Hence, very dry conditions and warming
temps aloft will preclude much cloud development, therefore
expecting abundant sunshine today. Some WAA mid/high clouds
arrive late this afternoon on the western horizon, in response
to an approaching s/wv. Nonetheless, abundant sunshine for much
of the day combined with downsloping WNW winds will help modify
cold morning temps to rebound into the mid and upper 50s this
afternoon, about 5-8 degs above normal. It will feel cooler this
morning courtesy of blustery NW winds, but becoming more
tranquil late in the day as winds drop off.

Low amplitude short wave approaches in the NW flow aloft tonight,
but feature is lacking deep layer moisture and it tracks across
PA/NJ and then south of Long Island, likely keeping its rain
shield south of New England. 00z models have trended farther
south with this feature and model soundings indicate lots of
dry air below 800 mb, likely eroding rain before reaching the
ground. Thus, thinking rain shield tracks just south of BID-
MVY-ACK. Hence, dry weather likely prevails across SNE, just a
period of cloudiness overnight. Lows overnight drop back into
the 30s with a light WNW wind around 10 mph.

Sunday...

Dry NW flow across SNE behind departing short wave Sat night, will
provide a mix of clouds and sunshine. Highs should warm into
the mid 50s (3-5 degs above normal) along with a modest WNW wind
10- 20 mph. Overall, very pleasant weather for late March.

Monday

A weak area of surface high pressure will support a quiet start to
next week. Monday afternoon will feature a mix of sun and clouds and
seasonable low/high temperatures in the mid 30s and low 50s
respectively.

Tuesday through Friday

After Monday the forecast becomes much more unsettled for the rest
of the week. A robust upper-level trough will dig into the east
CONUS and support the development of a strong surface low pressure
system over The Midwest on Tuesday. Southern New England will be
north of the associated warm front beneath the cold conveyor belt on
Tuesday which will support persistent easterly flow and increasing
cloudiness during the day. Shower chances would gradually increase
during the day as well as QG forcing for ascent increases in
response to positive vorticity advection. Onshore flow and overcast
skies would support slightly below normal temperatures on Tuesday.

The forecast becomes more fuzzy by Wednesday when northern stream
energy associated with the surface low in The Midwest will merge
with southern stream energy and support the development of a
secondary low somewhere along the east coast. From here, The
Northeast is forecast to experience another substantial
precipitation event that may include substantial snowfall for The
Berkshires and higher elevations of The Worcester Hills.

Ensemble and deterministic models are adamant on upstream blocking
supporting a negatively tilted trough and a slower moving system
that, with the right storm track, could result in substantial
snowfall for the higher elevations in southern New England. Given
the high uncertainty in the forecast at this time range, we have
leaned on the NBM for guidance until the synoptic setup and storm
track associated with this system becomes more clear. Consulting
ensemble probabilities for snowfall, the LREF is currently
suggesting a 30 to 40 percent chance of 24 hour snowfall exceeding 6
inches across the higher elevations between Wednesday night and
Thursday night. This however assumes a 10:1 snow to liquid ratio,
which is difficult to achieve in April. Even if we cut that SLR in
half, there is still a moderate signal for measurable snowfall next
week. While details in potential impacts remain vague, there is
moderate to strong signal that there will be a substantial
precipitation event for the region during the second half of next
week. Beyond Thursday, guidance suggests coastal low will be exiting
northeast during the second half of Thursday leaving the region
beneath a cold/northwest flow on Friday.
