.SHORT TERM...Simply put, the only concern for the next 24 hours
is how long the fog will stick around through the morning.
Another large storm moves into the Gulf late Monday.

Dry with diminishing northerly winds through Monday evening, some
fog in sheltered areas such as Juneau and Gustavus. Any fog
developed now will likely stick around through 10 am to noon
before easterly winds from the approaching front Monday night
begin to mix the boundary layer. Looking at observations at
elevation in Juneau, the atmospheric profile is somewhat
isothermal with a dry layer at 500 ft. While temperatures aloft
will slightly strengthen the inversion early on, any increase in
wind will likely break the inversion, dissipating the fog. Once
the inversion does break and fog does lift, then clear conditions
will prevail.

Marine wise, mostly light air in the central and southern
panhandle will shift to moderate breezes to the east, and
increasing to fresh to strong breezes during the evening and
overnight. Northerly fresh breezes in Lynn will slowly diminish
down to light air before flipping south. Expect mostly diminishing
seas.

.LONG TERM...A strengthening storm force low will move into the gulf
Monday night. This low will move close to the coast bringing us
wind and rain. Currently, the strongest winds are expected to be
along the outer coast starting near Yakutat and then moving south
and east as the low stalls out before moving back to the south and
east. Strong winds will still be possible throughout the Inner
Channels. These winds are currently expected to be strong enough
to move any loose Halloween decorations that people might have
out. Currently, most of the precipitation is expected to be rain
with snow being confined mostly to the upper elevations. A mix of
rain and snow will be possible for the northern panhandle, but
accumulations look to be little to none at this time. By
Wednesday, the low will have weakened and will have started to
dive back down to the south and out of the area. Winds will still
be elevated at this time but will switch back to more of an
outflow regime before high pressure moves back into the region.
This area of high pressure will move in for Thursday but will
provide only a brief break as the next low is expected to move
into the eastern portion of the Gulf Thursday night and Friday
morning. This will keep our pattern active as we head into the end
of the week. Our focus then shifts to a low near the Aleutian
Islands and Bering Sea for our next potential system to impact the
area heading into the latter half of the weekend and early next
week.

.AVIATION...Early morning fog across parts of the area will
largely lift through the morning hours, though some more wind-
sheltered areas may see lingering fog into the afternoon.
Otherwise, lower wind speeds and higher ceilings are expected
through Monday before conditions begin to slowly diminish Monday
night as a system approaches the area. Some locations in the outer
coast and southern panhandle will likely see wind shear on
Tuesday.
