.SYNOPSIS...One more day of dry weather is expected today, with
breezy north winds in the Colorado River Valley. Light snow will
return to the Sierra Friday, followed by one round of more
substantial rain and snow areawide over the weekend and a weaker
storm Monday into Tuesday.

.UPDATE...No forecast update is needed this evening.

There is an elongated trough off the west coast this evening with a
ridge of high pressure situated over the Intermountain West.
Considerable amount of high clouds are forecast to stream inland
tonight and Friday within southwest flow between the trough and
ridge. The associated AR ahead of the trough will be nearly
paralleling the coast from northern California northward into
Washington tonight. The AR is forecast to weaken as it moves into
the northern and central Sierra of California tomorrow. Probably
enough moisture at tail-end of weakening AR and orographics to
squeeze out a chance for light showers at and just east of the crest
in Inyo County. It will stay dry elsewhere. No significant winds
forecast through tomorrow while temperatures will be near normal.

.SHORT TERM...Tonight Through Friday Night.

In, low impact weather is expected through Friday. Hi-res models
have trended slower with the incoming system for the weekend
which has, in turn, slowed down the spread precipitation eastward.
Light snow may develop in the central Sierra Friday afternoon,
but most likely any precipitation will hold off until Friday
night. Even then, impacts due to precipitation will be minor. A
few inches of snow is possible by Saturday in the Sierra above
7000ft. The Sierra will also see increasing winds Friday afternoon
and overnight as the pressure gradient and wind profile increase
ahead of the incoming trough, and gusts of 30 to 40 MPH will be
likely at times. Elsewhere, winds will be light. Mostly cloudy
skies are likely on Friday as mid level moisture increases with
the moist flow and thus temperatures will be about the same or a
few degrees cooler than today even with warmer air being
introduced on southerly flow. No changes were made to the Winter
Storm Watch as impacts will not arrive until Saturday.

.LONG TERM...Saturday through next Wednesday.

The next Atmospheric River event timing remains on track for the
weekend into early next week. Issued a Winter Storm Watch for the
Sierra and White Mountains Saturday through Monday night, and this
may have to be expanded later. The quantitative precipitation
forecast from the NBM/WPC clearly shows two waves of heavy
precipitation embedded within about a 72-hour period of continuous
precip in at least some part of our CWA. Light precipitation in the
Sierra on Friday is forecast to carry over into Saturday morning
before snow intensifies in the afternoon. Heavy snow is forecast to
continue through Saturday evening before it begins to taper off
overnight into Sunday morning with light snow showers forecast on
Sunday. The snow level is forecast between 5000-6000 feet when the
heaviest snow is forecast then lowers to 4000-4500 feet when the
snowfall is lighter. New snow accumulations of up to a foot are
forecast between 5000 and 9000 feet in the Sierra through 4 pm
Sunday, with 1-2 feet above 9000 feet. 5-10 inches are forecast in
the Spring Mountains with 2-4 inches across central and northern
Lincoln County. The period for heavy snow outside the Sierra is
Saturday evening and overnight into Sunday morning. Rain amounts in
the lower elevations through 4 pm Sunday range from a few hundredths
up to 0.75 inch.

The second wave of this ongoing AR event begins in the Sierra Sunday
evening and continues through Tuesday morning bringing total snow
amounts from the 72-hour storm up to 20 inches in the Sierra up to
9000 feet and 2-4 feet above 9000 feet. Total snow amounts in the
Spring Mountains range from 10-18 inches of new snowfall with 4-10
inches in central and northern Lincoln County, and 4-8 inches in
northern Mohave County. Total rain amounts of 0.50-1.50 inches in
the Owens Valley, southeast Lincoln County, and Mohave County.
Elsewhere, forecast rain totals range from a few hundredths up to
0.50 inch.

Lighter precipitation is forecast on Tuesday with dry conditions
area wide on Wednesday. One thing to note is there appears we could
see a pattern change next week. Although the pattern is forecast to
remain active according to the Ensemble means - instead of systems
embedded within an atmospheric river, they are coming from a much
colder, less moist source region.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...No significant weather related impacts
expected through Friday. Winds will be 10 knots or less and will
follow typical diurnal direction trends. High cloud cover will
increase throughout the day, but it will not be operationally
significant.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...With the exception of the Colorado River Valley TAF
sites, winds will be 10 knots or less and will follow typical
diurnal direction trends with periods of more variable winds
possible. Breezy northerly winds will linger down the Colorado River
Valley into tomorrow morning. 8-12 knot sustained winds are expected
at KEED, with 12-17 knot sustained winds gusting to 20-25 knots are
expected at KIFP.
