.SYNOPSIS...Dry conditions expected this weekend, with the exception
of light valley rain and high elevation snowfall for western Inyo
County. The active pattern continues, bringing another round of
widespread precipitation to the region Monday and Tuesday.

.SHORT TERM...Today through Sunday night.

Considerable area of clouds is on the increase across California as
next in the series of systems set to primarily impact California
this weekend. HREF % of cloud cover guidance shows this swath of
considerable cloudiness continuing across our area through midday
Sunday before we could see some partial clearing. High temperatures
will be slightly impacted by the cloudiness with reading one or two
degrees off of yesterdays highs. Any significant wind gusts of 30-40
mph over the weekend will be isolated to the higher elevations of
Inyo County and southern Nevada. Regarding precipitation, radar
currently shows leading edge of precipitation moving onshore from
the SF Bay area northward. Minor AR associated with incoming
shortwave trough Sunday will is forecast to drive the AR down the
coast to Pt. Conception. But, all deterministic guidance indicates
this AR will fizzle out before causing much impact to the southern
Sierra of Inyo County. Both ensemble and deterministic guidance
indicate light precipitation for the Owens Lake and Crowley Lake
basin. Based on latest snow level and snow ratios this should
translate to 3-6 inches of snow above 8500 feet.

.LONG TERM...Monday through next Friday.

Upgraded our Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning above 6000
feet for Monday-Tuesday evening for the Sierra and White Mountains
of Inyo County. This is the time frame for the next significant AR
event, a 48 hour period from early Monday through Tuesday evening.
When the heavier precipitation begins early Monday morning, the snow
level in the Sierra is forecast to be 4500-5000 feet then rise
through the day to around 8000 feet then lowering again to 6500-7000
feet Tuesday morning and finally to 5000-5500 feet by the end of the
event. This fluctuating snow level will make for a difficult
snowfall forecast. As it sits now, elevations 6000-8000 feet could
get 8-14 inches, Aspendell could get 1-2 feet while the highest
elevations could get 2-5 feet. There is still a lot of uncertainty
with a 18 inch spread between the NBM 10th and 90th percentile for
Aspendell. Elsewhere, current snowfall forecasts of 8-14 inches at
Westgard Pass in the White Mountains with higher amounts at the
peaks, 6-10 inches over Highway 266 in Esmeralda County and 4-8
inches in the Spring Mtns. Still plenty of time to lock in amounts
before the Winter Storm Watch would need to be upgraded to a
warning. Impressive rain amounts are forecast in Inyo County with
0.75-1 inch amounts in Death Valley and 1.50-2.50 inches in the
Owens Valley.

Once this system moves out Tuesday night, a dry period is forecast
from Wednesday through Thursday night before another weaker AR wave
brings heavy snow to the Sierra for Friday and Friday night. Long
range forecasts for the weekend (beyond the official 7-day forecast)
show another possible significant AR event potentially bringing feet
of snowfall to the Sierra and White Mountains.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...Light winds of 8 kts or less favoring
typical diurnal variations are expected through the TAF period. High
clouds will develop this morning and persist into Sunday, and mid-
level cloudiness will form this afternoon.  Overnight, increasing
moisture from a Pacific storm will spread across the area.  While no
significant impacts are expected at the field, lower cloud bases
could result in some of the ridges to the west of the Las Vegas
valley being obscured Sunday morning.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...Light winds favoring typical diurnal variations are
expected at most regional TAF sites today and tonight, except KIFP,
where breezy northerly winds are likely this afternoon.  Increasing
moisture from a Pacific storm will spread across the region later
today through Sunday. While only an increase in high and mid-level
clouds is expected at regional TAF sites, mountain snow and reduced
visibilities are expected across the Sierra and White mountains
later this afternoon and overnight.  Likewise, on Sunday morning,
reduced visibility and mountain obscuration are also possible across
the Spring Mountains.
