In the Owens Valley, gusty north winds continue, especially in 
the southern end of the valley. Although isolated advisory level 
gusts remain possible, widespread advisory level winds are no 
longer expected.

Elsewhere, although gusty northwest winds will continue this 
morning, widespread advisory level winds are no longer expected.

.SYNOPSIS...The leading edge of another Pacific Storm will
reach the southern Sierra tonight then bring gusty winds and limited
snow to the mountains of southern Nevada as it moves across Monday
and Monday night. The system will dive over southern Nevada and
surrounding areas Wednesday bringing wintry weather to much of the
region. Dry conditions and a warming trend will develop going into
next weekend.

.SHORT TERM...through Wednesday night.

The brief break in the weather between systems will be short lived
as attention turns to a large cold circulation dropping out of the
Gulf of Alaska and down the West Coast with the leading edge of the
base of the trough moving inland over central California and the
southern Sierra Monday then quickly traversing Nevada and Utah
Monday night. Additional energy dives down the back side of the
trough Tuesday through Wednesday causing it to undergo cyclogenesis
and become a closed low while it dives over southern Nevada and
surrounding areas Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night. This will
lead to snow and wind impacts for various areas and various time
period through Wednesday night.

With respect to snow: Initial impacts will begin over the southern
Sierra tonight. However, the trajectory of the system and its
associated moisture plume will result in the west slopes of the
southern Sierra intercepting most of the snow while the crest
shadows out the Owens Valley, Death Valley and much of southern
Nevada. There will likely be sufficient spillover onto the upper
east slopes of the southern Sierra tonight through Monday night for
snow amounts of 6-12 inches between 7000 and 9000 feet and A Winter
Storm Warning is now in effect for the east slopes to cover this. It
also extends through Wednesday to cover the second round of snow
with another several inches in the upper east slopes mainly Tuesday
afternoon through Wednesday afternoon as the trailing edge of the
aforementioned system dives down over southeast California. The
Owens Valley will see a better potential for snow Tuesday night and
Wednesday morning with about a 40 percent chance of 1-3 inches.

Lincoln County will see the best potential for a combination of snow
and wind impacts Monday afternoon through Monday night with 1-3
inches of snow accumulation and areas of winds gusting over 40 mph.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for that zone from 1 PM PDT
Monday until 4 AM PDT Tuesday morning. The Spring Mountains only
have about a 40 percent chance of seeing measurable snow Monday
afternoon and evening, so confidence it too low for a winter weather
headline.

Snow will likely be widespread across southern Nevada and northwest
Arizona Wednesday with snow levels dropping to 2500 feet or below by
Wednesday afternoon as the cold core of the system dives directly
over our forecast area. At least 6-12 inches of snow appear likely
in the mountains of southern Nevada and northwest Arizona. Stay
updated on the forecast as details are fine-tuned over the next
couple days.

With respect to wind: Southwest to west winds will pick up Monday
afternoon through Monday night with the incoming leading edge of the
system and widespread gusts over 40 mph are indicated by the latest
high res models across much of northern San Bernardino County,
southern Death Valley, southern Nevada and northern Mohave County. A
Wind Advisory is in effect from 1 PM PST Monday afternoon until 4 AM
PST Tuesday morning. A relative break in the wind will occur Tuesday
followed by speeds ramping up again Tuesday night and Wednesday with
widespread gusts over 40 mph accompanying the system as it barrels
over our area.

.LONG TERM...Thursday through Sunday.

The medium range ensemble clusters indicate dry northwest or zonal
flow developing over our area Thursday through Saturday followed by
increasing southwest winds Sunday as a broad eastern Pacific trough
swings inland. There may be some moisture moving into the southern
Sierra and central Nevada mountains for a 20 percent chance of snow
Saturday night and Sunday but the rest of the region should remain
dry. A warming trend can be expected under this pattern with highs
finally climbing back into the 60s across the Mojave Desert region
next weekend.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...The remaining FEW-SCT mid-level clouds
will clear out of the Valley this afternoon, leaving some passing
high clouds. Winds remain out of the southwest through tonight,
becoming gusty Monday morning. Speeds gradually increase through the
day and into the evening on Monday. Mid to high level clouds will
remain on Monday as well.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California... Southerly to southwesterly winds will continue through
the rest of the day today. Winds generally remain out of the
southwest, decreasing for most areas overnight. Winds will become
gusty out of the southwest Monday and Monday night with peak gusts
in the late evening. Low to mid level clouds will return through
Monday as well for most areas except southern Nevada and the
Colorado River Valley.
