.SYNOPSIS...Unsettled weather can be expected through early next
week as a series of storm systems impact the region. These systems
will bring periods of strong winds, especially Wednesday, along with
valley rain and mountain snow and cooler temperatures.

.DISCUSSION...The weather pattern over the western United States
will remain rather active through early next week as a series of
storm systems impact the region. Not a lot of change in the forecast
for the afternoon package. The focus will be on the next storm
system as the one tracking through northern Mexico will continue to
bring some cloudiness and light showers through tomorrow. The
Wednesday system will be more of a concern as very strong winds
along with heavy mountain snow can be anticipated as it passes
through the area. Several winter weather and high wind headlines
have already been posted. Please refer to the previous discussion
section in this product for more details.

.AVIATION...Valid through 22/00Z.
FEW-SCT clouds at 7k-15k ft AGL and SCT-BKN layered clouds above
thru the end of the period. Isolated -SHRA. Isolated marginal MVFR
conditions with the heavier -SHRA possible after 21/12Z KTUS
eastward. Winds follow diurnal trends and remain under 10kts until
21/18Z when S/SW winds at 10-15kts and gusts to 25kts until the end
of the period. Aviation discussion not updated for TAF amendments.

.FIRE WEATHER...More unsettled weather can be expected through
early next week as a series of storm systems impact the region.
These systems will bring periods of strong winds along with valley
rain and mountain snow and cooler temperatures. The first system
will approach the area and move slowly across northern Mexico
through Tuesday, with the second system due to arrive on Wednesday
into Thursday. Both of these systems will result in increasing south
to southwest winds and a chance of precipitation, along with cooler
temperatures. The winds will be especially strong and gusty on
Wednesday. Moisture levels will increase today, with min RH values
well above critical thresholds through at least the weekend. There
is the potential for yet another storm system late in the weekend
into early next week.

.PREV DISCUSSION.../Issued 250 AM MST Mon Feb 20 2023/...
On Wednesday, the first impulse associated with the stronger system
will rotate through the state. Plenty of shear and jet dynamics
along with cooler mid levels and good available moisture should make
bands of showers likely with isolated embedded thunderstorms.
An impressive gradient and well stacked jet down through 700mb and
lower showing up on NAEFS ensemble mean wind speeds, with near
record values compared to climo. ECMWF extreme forecast index
lighting up like a christmas tree for wind speeds and wind gusts 00Z
Wednesday to 00Z Thursday. Even with adjustments for the current
iteration of the NBM (which seems to have a hot bias on wind
events), we still are probably looking at a significant wind event.
With this in mind, a high wind watch is now in effect for Wednesday
for much of the area. Precip wise, we currently are advertising
storm totals between .1 and .5 in valleys and .5 to 1 inch in
mountains. Storm total snowfall forecast in the mountains ranging
from about 3 inches in the southern mountains, to about 6 inches for
Mt Lemmon and Mt Graham, to a max of 12 to 15 inches in the southern
White Mountains (northern Graham and Greenlee counties).

Latest ensembles are continuing a trend where another strong impulse
carves down the back side of the mean trough position the second
half of the week to a position near the central and southern
California coast Saturday. Another kicker system in this very active
and high amplitude pattern would then be in a position to boost the
storm through from the west around next Sunday or so.
