* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values of 
  110 to 120 degrees. Warm overnight low temperatures around 80 
  degrees within urban areas.

* WHERE...Portions of northwest and west central Arkansas and 
  east central, northeast and southeast Oklahoma.

* WHEN...For the first Excessive Heat Warning, until 8 PM CDT 
  this evening. For the second Excessive Heat Warning, from 11 
  AM to 8 PM CDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to 
  create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are 
  possible. Overnight low temperatures will remain warm, 
  especially across urban areas, providing little to no heat 
  stress relief.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water. To reduce risk during outdoor
work the occupational safety and health administration recommends
scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned
environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool
and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911.

It will be another hot day today across eastern Oklahoma and
western Arkansas, with an Excessive Heat Warning in place across
all of our forecast areas this afternoon. The expansive area of
high pressure responsible for this heat wave will shift a little
north of the local area today. This will allow for a more easterly
to northeasterly wind today, with what little wind there is. In
response, high temperatures should be a couple degrees cooler
ranging from the upper 90s to around 103 for most places.
Unfortunately, high dewpoints will also remain in place,
especially across northeast Oklahoma where 80 degree dewpoints
have been common over the last several days. This means another
day of heat index values ranging from around 110 to 120 degrees
again this afternoon. Continue to take your heat related
precautions as the accumulative effects of the heat can more
easily take its toll after several days of intense heat.

The long range forecast remains largely unchanged as we remain
under the influence of ridging aloft close by the forecast area
through the rest of the work week. Additional heat headlines will
be needed through the week. Guidance does continue to indicate
that some relief could be on the way during the weekend as the
ridge weakens some and finally shifts back west of the region,
and stronger northwesterly flow aloft can spread over eastern
Oklahoma. this would allow a cold front to slip into the region
and bring some cooler temperatures and possibly some scattered
rain chances. Differences remain in the degree of the cooldown as
well as the coverage of rain chances over the region late in the
weekend, so will leave the forecast dry for now.
