Several weather disturbances will move from west to east across Montana over the next several days. This will result in periods of snow over the mountains along the divide and over Southwest MT, while it becomes windy over the Plains of North Central MT. Seasonable temperatures are expected through the weekend, with slightly warmer temperatures expected on Monday and Tuesday. && .AVIATION... 1100 AM MST Fri Dec 1 2023 (01/18Z TAF Period) VFR conditions will prevail across all terminal for this TAF period. However there is the possibility that the KEKS terminal will drop to MVFR conditions Saturday morning due to snow and low ceilings and the KBZN terminal could drop to MVFR conditions Saturday afternoon due to snow and low ceilings. The other main concern for this TAF period is the gusty winds. For the KGTF terminal there will be winds gusting to 35 kts across this TAF period with the highest gusts expected Saturday morning. For all other terminals excluding KBZN and KEKS the winds gusts will start to pick up this evening as a shortwave move through the area. For the KHVR, KLWT, KCTB, and KHLN terminals the winds will be light and variable for the most part until they increase and become gusty late tonight/early Saturday morning. The snow is starting to fall along the divide this morning over the Northern Rockies. Expect periods of snow over the next several days, with Marias Pass on Highway 2 being the most affected. Thus the winter weather advisory will remain in place for the Northern Rockies. Expect winds to start to increase today, with the winds becoming strong during the day on Saturday. A high wind watch starts tonight, but the latest guidance is delaying the strong winds by a few hours towards later Saturday morning. For now, I left the watch start time as is, but some adjustments could be made to the start time later today if a warning is issued. Sunday through Tuesday… Expect a warm front to move through the CWA Sunday into Monday. Strong west winds will accompany the warm front, and there is a 70 percent chance high winds could reach warning criteria at lower elevations of North Central MT over the western Plains, while there is a 90 percent chance of warning criteria winds along the divide. Thus additionally high wind highlights are looking likely for Sunday into Monday. Expect warmer air to move into the region behind the warm front, with Tuesday looking to be the warmest day.
