A few updates have been made to the forecast tonight to better
represent the drier conditions. Observed Td's in the eastern half
of the CWA are slightly lower than what was in the forecast, so
those have been lowered. The 0Z balloon launch showed a relatively
dry sounding with a cap around 700mb, which is likely the reason
some of the storms that formed in our SE AL counties earlier
didn't hold together for too long as they progressed east.
Showers over our waters have also appeared to share the same fate,
so pops over the next eight hours have been lowered across the
area.

.NEAR TERM...
(Through Saturday)

Will be watching with interest the large convective cluster that
will move off the Texas coast in a few hours. It will sweep east
across the Gulf overnight, then turn northeast across the
northeast Gulf during the late morning and early afternoon on
Saturday. CAMS guidance is in consensus that this windbag MCS
will contain severe winds as it crosses the waters early in the
afternoon and then spreads onshore and quickly inland from mid-
afternoon through early evening. For those with outdoor plans, the
day will start seemingly nice and tranquil, but be ready for the
weather to quickly go downhill in the afternoon. Be sure you can
get to shelter quickly when storms approach.

.SHORT TERM...
(Saturday evening through Sunday night)

There will be a brief lull between late Saturday afternoon and
Saturday evening when the shortwave itself will be moving across
the region. Although this shortwave will be
deamplifying/weakening, the dynamics associated with it will be
impressive as the LLJ continues to intensify to 50+ kts. However,
the atmosphere may be worked over due to the MCS earlier in the
day, thus the thermodynamics may be shaky. Currently looking at
less than 1000 J/kg of MLCAPE, and that's at best. Should showers
and storms materialize, the expected storm type should be a line
of storms with some being discrete. Uncertainty is high with this
back-end portion, but all hazard types may be possible again.

Post-shortwave, we'll have drier air moving in throughout Sunday and
Sunday night with clear skies expected by Monday morning. High temps
aren't expected to move much over the weekend as they remain in the
upper 70s to low 80s. Overnight lows are expected to generally be in
the low 60s with low temps dipping into the mid and upper 50s Monday
morning, post-frontal.

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through Thursday)

A lull in active weather is expected throughout the long term
portion of this forecast. An upper ridge will build over the Gulf of
Mexico with its northeastern axis positioned directly over the CWA
resulting in WNW flow through much of the period. To the north, a
large upper trough will slide from the Great Lakes off the northeast
coast as the ridge holds to its south. With the NW'erly flow
pattern, some shortwave perturbations may find their way down south
which could lead isolated storms developing closer to the weekend.
However, this week will be characterized by calm conditions with
warm temperatures and clear, sunny skies. Some clouds may form
closer to the weekend due to some mid-level moisture advecting into
the area as a result of the longwave trough to the north, though
this is about as interesting as it gets for the current long term
forecast.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)

MVFR conditions are expected to begin shortly for ECP, TLH, and
VLD with less confidence at DHN and ABY. Cigs will begin lowering
in the next couple hours with IFR conditions possible at ECP and
TLH. Patchy fog is also possible at the TAF sites later tonight
into early Saturday morning. Cigs will improve back to MVFR after
sunrise at all sites A line of strong to severe storms is expected
to move through all the TAF sites from SW to NE between 16z and
00z. This could bring strong wind gusts of 40 kt or greater, hail,
and tornadoes. However, this is currently not explicitly forecast
in this TAF cycle. Additionally, once these storms pass, we'll see
MVFR cigs remain with another round of showers, possibly
thunderstorms, beginning to develop near DHN and ECP, moving
eastward toward the end of the TAF period.

.MARINE...

Will be taking a less traditional approach to the large cluster of
severe thunderstorms that will move northeast across our Gulf
waters on Saturday afternoon. CAMS guidance almost unanimously
shows severe convective wind gusts in excess of 50 knots, with a
cluster such as this bringing multiple hours of gale-force gusts
to a good bit of our waters. Despite being convectively driven,
the largeness and potential longevity of the convective suggests
a Gale Warning beginning late in the morning could be justified,
rather than simply waiting to issue Special Marine Warnings and
hoping boaters could race the fast-moving severe storms back to
shore. We would have likely eventually issued a Gale Warning
anyway for the strong cold front that will come through later
Saturday night. So will issue a Gale Warning to cover 15z Saturday
through 16z Sunday. It will be very rough over the Gulf waters
this weekend. Small Craft should stay in port.

From CWF synopsis...Gentle to moderate south and southwest breezes
will prevail through sunrise, but a large cluster of strong to
severe thunderstorms will race northeast across the northeast Gulf
waters from late Saturday morning through the afternoon. These
storms have potential to produce particularly strong and severe
winds, with gale-force gusts for a few hours. Then a strong cold
front will race across the waters on Saturday night, followed by
westerly gales from late Saturday night into Sunday morning. Winds
will decrease from Sunday afternoon through Tuesday morning, as
high pressure makes its way from the western Gulf to the eastern
Gulf, where it will remain on Wednesday.

Fair dispersions are expected tomorrow. However, another round of
showers and thunderstorms is expected tomorrow, beginning in the
late morning hours. This round of showers is expected to persist
into Saturday night/Sunday morning. There are no fire weather
concerns. High dispersions return Sunday through Monday behind this
next system.

.HYDROLOGY...

There are dual threats of flash flooding through Saturday night,
and minor coastal flooding through Sunday.

Freshwater... Following Thursdays rainfall, 1-hour Flash Flood
Guidance values are generally running 3 to 4 inches along and south
of I-10, and 2 to 3 inches north of there. The latest Storm-Total
QPF through Sunday is about 1.5 inches over SE Alabama to nearly 3
inches over the Suwannee Valley. Reasonable worst-case QPF values
are near 4 inches along and southeast of a TLH-VLD line. Given these
numbers and the progressive or forward-moving nature of storms late
Saturday, widespread flash flooding is unlikely. Indeed, the 12z
HREF keeps the neighborhood-weighted probability of flash flooding
at less than 20 percent for a few places in our GA and FL counties.
Nonetheless, thunderstorms late Saturday will contain intense
instantaneous rainfall rates and will still cause localized runoff
issues, especially if storms start to train over the same area or
linger over urban areas.

Saltwater...Minor coastal flooding is possible along the shores of
Apalachee Bay during high tide cycles from Saturday night into
Sunday, mainly along the coasts of Wakulla, Jefferson, Taylor and
Dixie Counties. A strong cold front will blast across the northeast
Gulf late Saturday night, likely preceded by southerly near-gale
winds over the waters, and likely followed by westerly gales on
Sunday morning. The onshore push of water is likely to cause
inundation of normally dry ground near the shoreline to reach into
the 2- to 2.5-foot range, possibly even 3 feet. The most vulnerable
time for south-facing shores of Apalachee Bay will come during the
high tide cycle around 11 pm to midnight Saturday night. Further
around the Big Bend toward the Dixie County coast, the gale-force
westerlies on Sunday morning will also likely bring minor coastal
flooding during the high tides around Noon on Sunday. Current
expectations suggest a Coastal Flood Advisory will eventually be
needed.
