A warm and humid air mass will remain entrenched across the region
tonight and Thursday. Widely scattered showers this evening across
portions of Southeast AL and Southwest GA. There is a low potential/
slight chance of thunder. Patchy fog is expected to develop tonight,
first near the Big Bend Coastal areas, then further inland in the
Big Bend after midnight, and across portions of the remainder of the
region around daybreak. Cannot rule out some dense fog in the Big
Bend coastal areas and points inland, but confidence in dense fog is
low. Lows tonight in the 60s. On Thursday, there will be sufficient
lift for scattered showers (PoPs less than 25 pct for the most part)
and a slight chance of a rumble of thunder over the far northwest.
Another warm day with highs in the 80s.

.SHORT TERM...
(Thursday night through Friday night)

Wind and minor coastal flooding will be concerns on Friday, with a
conditional threat of severe weather. The hydrology section has
more on the minor coastal flood potential.

An impressive low center will cross the Four Corners region
tonight. It will cross the Arklatex late Thursday and then move up
the Ohio Valley on Friday as a deep and powerful low center.
Southerly gradient winds will pick up across the forecast area
early Friday morning, with the strongest winds north of the
Florida border, and along the more exposed coastal zones. The NAM
is forecasting 925 mb winds of 35-50 knots during the day on
Friday. Given daytime thermal mixing, this should easily translate
to surface wind gusts of 35-50 mph.

Trailing south from that powerful low will be cold front. The
tail end of a narrow squall line will enter our Central Time Zone
counties on Friday morning in advance of the front, aided by
sharp low- level convergence near the front. However, upper
dynamics will be moving off northeast well to the north of our
counties, which will limit deeper lift and forcing. Despite
moderate instability, the NAM also shows enough convective
inhibition to cast doubt on depth or coverage of convection, due
to a cap of warmer and drier mid-level air. In fact, this forecast
package slightly lowers rain chances for Friday. Nonetheless, if
low-level forcing provides sufficient lift to bust through the
cap, deep-layer shear and moderate instability would favor storms
quickly becoming severe. So this will be a highly conditional
setup for severe weather, but any storms that achieve some depth
will undoubtedly be concerning.

The trailing front will weaken and slow down on Friday evening as
the distance increases from the parent low. The front should take
its time exiting the SE Big Bend.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through Tuesday)

The air mass following Friday PM's cold front will be coming in
from the west. It will be drier, but it will generally fail to
even cool temperatures back to near normal for early March. Low-
level moisture will only get sidelined down into west- central
Florida over the weekend, so it will not have far to return when
southeast surface flow comes back early next week.

During the first half of next week, the stubborn upper high over
the Bahamas will retrograde west across the southern Gulf and
Yucatan. A flat ridge will bulge north toward the northern Gulf
Coast. This will confidently keep the weather warm, while limiting
rain chances. The latest forecast includes low rain chances over
our AL/GA counties next Tue and Wed, closer to potentially dirty
periphery of the flat upper ridge.

Fog/low stratus is beginning to form/move into all TAF sites,
potentially leading to LIFR levels in some locations as the night
progresses, conditions may approach airport minimums near daybreak.
Terminals most likely impacted by LIFR conditions later on are:
TLH/DHN/VLD. Ceilings and visibilities will gradually improve
throughout the late morning/early afternoon hours.

Southerly breezes will gradually freshen through Friday in
response to a strong low center moving from the Arklatex to the
Ohio Valley, with frequent gale-force gusts west of Apalachicola
on Friday. A trailing cold front will weaken as it moves across
the waters on Friday night. High pressure will move by to the
north on Saturday night and off the North Carolina coast on
Sunday, bringing development of easterly breezes.

.FIRE WEATHER...

The main concern is high dispersions on Friday due to the
combination of high mixing heights and very strong southerly
transport winds. A strong cold front will also move through
the region on Friday with the potential for wetting rains,
which may persist into Saturday in the FL Big Bend. Outside
of the wetting rains, there is the potential for elevated
fire weather concerns on Friday.

.HYDROLOGY...

Freshwater... No flooding is expected for the next 7 days.

Saltwater... Minor coastal flooding is possible around the time of
high tides on Friday afternoon and Friday night. Strong to near-
gale southerlies and then southwesterlies across the eastern Gulf
will push water onshore and increase tide levels during this
time. The latest round of guidance has slightly increased the
tidal anomaly along the Panhandle, while slightly decreasing the
tidal anomaly around Apalachee Bay.

For the Emerald Coast, timing of the peak tidal anomaly may miss
the astronomical high tide late on Friday afternoon. However, if
they coincide, then minor coastal flooding would be possible.

Along Apalachee Bay from eastern Franklin around through Wakulla
to Taylor, minor coastal flooding still looks more likely than not
during high tide on Friday night. However, the latest guidance
makes moderate coastal flooding look like a long shot at the very
most.
