Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop from
the Florida Big Bend and along I75 westward this afternoon and
evening. Better chances remain through the Big Bend and adjacent
Georgia counties. Where it's not raining, heat indices are well
into the 100s and low to mid 110s. Excessive heat warning remains
in effect through 8 PM ET / 7 PM CT. Convection will slowly
diminish through the mid to late evening hours.

Forecast challenge Tuesday will be how high the heat indices will
get. Upper ridge in place will be pinched westward as a trough
moves into the southern US. A cold front will make a run towards
our southeast Alabama counties at the close of the near term. As
this 'heat dome' moves west, moisture and temperatures won't be
quite as high meaning heat indices won't be as oppressive as days
past. It will be close to 113F heat index in portions of the
Florida Panhandle but for now will recommend a heat advisory to
the swing shift to issue once the excessive heat warning expires.

Another challenge will be convection that develops along the
front towards late afternoon, severe potential with this
convection, and diurnal convection and associated cloud cover that
may also help tamper down highs a skoosh. GFS is fairly robust in
developing convection along the front. DCAPE will be healthy
enough to warrant downbursts with any strong storm that develops.
SPC upgraded to a marginal risk for severe storms area wide
Tuesday.

.SHORT TERM...
(Tuesday night through Wednesday night)

A frontal boundary (cold front) ahead of an upper level trough
will bring in an increased chance for rain on beginning Tuesday
night into Wednesday while also bringing down temperatures to the
low 90s for Wednesday afternoon. Some thunderstorms may be strong
to severe with the SPC highlighting our the region except for the
extreme SE Big Bend counties in a Marginal (1 of 5) risk for
severe weather. The main threat will be damaging wind gusts and
heavy rainfall. The WPC highlighted the northwestern two-thirds of
the region with a Marginal risk (1 of 4) for Excessive rainfall
on Tuesday (night) and then shifts to the southeastern two-thirds
of the region for Wednesday. Through this period, we could receive
1-3 inches of rain with isolated higher amounts. PoPs for Tuesday
night are about 50 to 60 percent, and increase for the Big Bend
region to 70-90 percent for Wednesday afternoon. The rain is
expected to begin clearing out Wednesday night.

Temperatures will be in the low to mid 90s on Wednesday with heat
indices around 100-105 range, but will monitor for heat advisory
criteria (heat index 108F or greater). The overnight lows will be
in the mid 70s.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday through Sunday)

Showers and thunderstorms may linger Wednesday night into
Thursday as the frontal boundary continues its passage through the
region. The upper level trough will be heading east at the start
of the term, making room for a ridge to build in from the Southern
Plains. With this, we can expect temperatures to again approach
the upper 90s into low 100s, but there is a surface high over the
Bermuda region that will be expanding westward. This would bring
us easterly flow that may allow for drier air to mix in by the
weekend. Although the temperatures will be hot, we should be able
to remain below advisory criteria.

The ridge of high pressure should keep our PoPs down heading into
the weekend with daily diurnal chances around 30-60 percent in
the afternoons from storms developing along the seabreeze located
along and south of I-10. The exception is Thursday with higher
PoPs in the Big Bend region ranging from 50 to 80 percent in the
extreme southeast Big Bend.

Temperatures for the long term will be back in the mid-upper 90s
with heat indices near 106 and will be monitored for heat advisory
criteria by the weekend for the FL Panhandle counties.

Convection lingers across parts of the Tri-state area, but should
diminish by midnight or sooner. Maintained a mention of thunder
at all sites except TLH thru 2Z based on current radar trends
w/DHN most likely to see TSRA and/or gusty winds during that time.
A quiet night is fcst, but MVFR vsybs are possible in the
northern terminals early tmrw morning. Scattered SHRA/TSRA aims to
hold off until just beyond 18Z outside of potentially ECP as soon
as 15Z. Light SW winds prevail away from thunderstorms.

A frontal boundary will approach marine waters Tuesday and
eventually stall over Gulf waters. This front will bring a slight
increase in winds and seas through the middle of week, but winds
and seas will still remain only around 10 knots or less with seas
ranging from 1 to 3 feet. Main weather impacts from this front
will be a large increase in rain chances, especially from Tuesday
night through Thursday.

Extreme heat will continue to be a concern for those working
outdoors Tuesday with indices around 110F. Otherwise, gusty and
erratic winds near afternoon thunderstorms along with frequent

A frontal boundary will drop into the region through the next few
days. This will bring more widespread rain chances to the region
but any flooding from rain will be very isolated and largely based
around poor drainage areas if a slow moving storm moves overhead.
Widespread rainfall amounts through Thursday will be around 1 to
2 inches with localized amounts up to 3 inches possible.
