Key Messages:

1. Excessive Heat Warning and Heat Advisory have been extended
through Friday and extended eastward.

2. Pattern change this weekend will start to bring temperatures back
into the 80s for Sunday through next week.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)
Issued at 303 AM CDT Thu Aug 3 2023

Hot temperatures again today with lower 100s out west and lower 90s
further east. Based on observations around the CWA yesterday,
decided to expand the Excessive Heat Warning further east today.
Cedar county down to Barry county have been added since heat indices
in those areas were reaching 110 to 113 degrees yesterday. Have also
decided to expand the Heat Advisory further east as well since most
of the counties in the CWA have reached 105 to 109 for their heat
indices. The counties that were left out of the heat headlines in
the far NE CWA may have lingering cloud cover from dying overnight
convection that could affect high temperatures for today.

Skies will be mostly clear today with any lingering showers over
central Missouri dissipating before sunrise. Southwesterly winds
will be breezy again with gusts up to 25 mph at times. Showers and
thunderstorms are possible again this evening into tonight. SPC has
most of the CWA in a Marginal Risk for severe weather for today.
Though the atmosphere will be more stable tonight than last night,
if the stationary front that is stalled over central Missouri begins
to sag south, this could spark some strong thunderstorms especially
for areas east of Hwy 65.

.LONG TERM...(Friday through Wednesday)

The heat persists for Friday before the ridge begins to flatten out
for the rest of the long term period. Have issued an Excessive Heat
Warning/Heat Advisories for the same counties that are included in
Thursday's heat headlines. This is due to persistent heat indices
over 110+ degrees. Hot temperatures will continue through Saturday
before a cold front moves through on Sunday helping to cool us
off into the mid 80s for a few days. However, the start of the
next week will remain rather active with a daily chance (20-40%)
of showers and thunderstorms for the start of next week.

VFR through the period with low level wind shear overnight as the
low level jet returns with southwest winds at 40-45 kts at 925 mb.
Gusty winds up to 25 knots will return for most of the day today
with mostly clear skies expected as well.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of the Missouri
Ozarks and extreme southeast Kansas.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.

Weather hazards expected...

  Limited tornado risk.
  Limited hail risk.
  Limited thunderstorm wind damage risk.
  Significant lightning risk.
  Elevated excessive heat risk.
  Extreme excessive rainfall risk

DISCUSSION...

Strong to severe thunderstorms will continue to develop over
central Missouri tonight. Some of these storms will be capable of
large hail and damaging wind. There is also a low risk for a
tornado.

In addition, very heavy rainfall will be possible which may lead
to some flooding.

The excessive heat and humidity will continue with the hottest
temperatures and heat index values in southeast Kansas into
western Missouri.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday.

The heat will continue through Thursday with western Missouri and
southeast Kansas remaining the hottest with heat index values
from 105 to 110.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

  Spotter activation may be needed later today or tonight for
  locations along and north of a line from Warsaw to Lebanon to
  Eminence.

...A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of Maries and northern
Phelps Counties through 1245 AM CDT...

At 1203 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Vienna, or 18 miles northwest of Rolla, moving southeast at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
         possible.

Locations impacted include...
Rolla, St. James, Belle, Doolittle, Vienna, Brinktown, Northwye,
Vichy and Rosati.

This includes Interstate 44 between mile markers 184 and 200.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 300 AM CDT for
central and east central Missouri.
