.SYNOPSIS...
Accumulating upslope snow is expected this evening into Tuesday
night across the mountains. Hard freeze each night through
Thursday morning.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 137 PM Monday...

Key Points:

  * Accumulating mountain snow this afternoon through Tuesday.

  * Breezy conditions in the mountains may yield some blowing
    and drifting snow with wind chills in the single digits.

  * Hard freeze tonight. Slick roads likely.

  * Gusty winds tomorrow afternoon.

A shortwave system will drop out of The Great Lakes this
afternoon bringing a transition from drizzle/rain to snow
showers across the lowlands. The mountains will see an
enhancement of the already on going upslope snow showers from
this. This will continue through the night with snow showers
tapering off from west to east in the lowlands after midnight.
Snow showers will likely continue until late morning for the
mountains.

Accumulations will be light for the lowlands with maybe an inch
of two for the foothill locations in the northern lowlands,
such as Clarksburg and Buckhannon. The mountains could see
anywhere from 2-5 inches, locally higher amounts possible along
the higher ridges (Snowshoe and Kumbrabow).

As this system sweeps off to the east overnight, we will see
temperatures plummet into the 20s, with teens in the mountains.
The hard freeze associated could impact vegetation and road
conditions tonight into tomorrow. Winds will be gusty behind
this system tomorrow afternoon through the short term period.
Winds in the higher elevations of the mountains could be over 40
MPH.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
As of 220 PM Monday...

Gusty winds, and light snow shower activity will be continuing
across the northern mountain at the start of the period, but will
both gradually start to taper/slacken off at high pressure builds
into the area. Temperatures on Wednesday will still be cool under
the northwesterly flow, but by Thursday, high pressure, surface and
aloft, along with a gradual increase in southerly flow out ahead of
the next system, will allow for temperatures to rise above normal
once again for daytime highs.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 220 PM Monday...

Precipitation will return to the area Friday into Friday night,
mainly in the form of rain as low pressure moves northeast into the
Great Lakes region, with a reinforcing upper trough/low bringing in
some cooler air for the weekend. Some precipitation may transition
to light snow on Saturday, but that will greatly depend on how much
lingering moisture is around by the time the colder air takes hold,
which at this point, doesn't look like much will be around. It will
be rather gusty at times with this system, but at this time, do not
anticipate wind headlines. Although rain could be moderate to heavy
at times, the overall speed of the front/system should prevent much
in terms of flooding issues.

.AVIATION /18Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 205 PM Monday...

Currently seeing an improvement to MVFR and VFR across the
lowlands as precipitation moves out. Additional isolated to
scattered rain/snow showers are expected to develop this
afternoon, becoming concentrated late this afternoon/evening.
Showers along this line will have a little better potential of
producing some graupel. As such, reduction in VISBY to IFR is
expected later this afternoon. Especially in heavier snow/rain
bands and along the mountains.

Overnight tonight, precipitation turns to all snow, mainly
light except at EKN where persistent IFR visibility impacts are
expected. MVFR CIGS look likely through at least the first half
of the day tomorrow, but gradually improve by ~18Z. MVFR/IFR
will likely stick around through tomorrow in the mountains.

Winds westerly to northwesterly at 8-12KTs with gusts in the
upper teens or lower 20s this afternoon and evening. Gusts will
increase tomorrow.
