Winds have begun to slowly diminish, and visibility has improved
over the plains, so will cancel the High Wind Warning and all
dust related highlights. RH has been very slow to improve, and
have extended the Red Flag Warning until 10 pm, as most locations
should at least creep back above 15 percent RH by then.

Key messages:

1) Dangerous fire weather conditions continue through Friday.

2) Snow, moderate to heavy, along the Continental Divide through
tonight.

3) Strong winds continue.

Currently...going forecast looks on track, with dangerous fire
weather conditions across the region with strong winds and very low
humidity values.  Wind gusts of 40 to 55 mph are being reported
across the Plains, and continue to strengthen.  Satellite imagery
shows blowing dust out in Baca and Prowers counties, and webcams in
Alamosa show areas of blowing dust.  Temperatures are warm, with
upper 60s to mid 70s across the Plains.  Snow continues to move into
the Continental Divide.

Rest of today and tonight...the main upper low is currently sitting
over northern Utah and will eject northeast across Wyoming, with
upper trough stretching south across Colorado overnight.  Strong,
southwesterly jet energy will move across the area this afternoon
and evening, with widespread strong winds.  Wind gusts in excess of
60 mph are still expected this afternoon, before decreasing this
evening.  Mountain areas will continue to see gusts near 75 mph into
this evening.  Relative humidity values are extremely low, with most
areas seeing values under 10 percent.  The combination of strong
winds and low humidity values are leading to the dangerous fire
weather conditions across the region.  Blowing dust will remain
possible over the San Luis Valley and Eastern Plains into this
evening.  Snow will continue to spread across the Continental Divide
this afternoon. The heaviest snow is expected across the San Juan
Range given the favorable southwest orographic flow.  As the upper
trough swings across the state late tonight, flow aloft will
transition to northwesterly, shutting down the heavy snow for the
San Juan Range. Focus will shift to the Central Mountains.  Overall,
snowfall amount of 5 to 10 inches possible over the San Juan Range,
with 4 to 8 over the Central Mountains through tonight.  In
addition, strong winds will lead to widespread blowing snow in the
high country, with reduced visibility over mountain passes.

Winds will subside by late evening across the region, with flow
transitioning to northwest late tonight.  Gusts near 25 to 30 mph
may still be possible through morning across the Plains.  Overnight
lows will remain in the 30s to low 40s across the Plains.

Friday...the upper system will continue to shift east across
Nebraska with strong northwesterly flow developing by mid morning
across the Plains.  Friday will be another day of dangerous fire
weather conditions.  Northwest winds, gusting near 50 mph for most
areas will combine with humidity values near 10 percent to produce
the dangerous fire weather conditions.  Areas along the southern I-
25 corridor have the potential to see another round of high winds
from mid morning to late afternoon.  Gusts across Pueblo, Huerfano
and western Las Animas Counties could reach in excess of 60 mph.
Areas of blowing dust will once again be possible across the Plains.

As for snow, areas over the Central Mountains will likely see
periods of light, to perhaps moderate snow through the afternoon
given the orographically favored northwest flow.  An additional 1 to
3 niches of snow may be possible through the afternoon.

Temperatures on the Plains will be cooler, with 50s and 60s for
highs.  Areas across the San Luis Valley will see 40s.  Mozley

Friday Night through Sunday..

The low continues to push off to our northeast through the overnight
hours Friday, leaving dry west-northwesterly flow over the region.
Westerly winds continue through Friday night, keeping temperatures
slightly warmer over our mountain adjacent plains. We warm quickly
on Saturday as zonal flow increases over the region. Daytime highs
are expected to be in the upper 60s and low 70s across the plains,
and upper 50s for mountain valleys. Continued westerly, dry, and
downsloping winds are expected for both Saturday and Sunday, which
will likely lead to critical fire weather concerns for both
afternoons. A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Saturday
afternoon for our plains, along with the San Luis Valley. We warm
even more efficiently on Sunday. With clear skies and increasing
westerly winds, high are expected to reach into the mid to upper 70s
on the plains and 60s in our mountain valleys.

Monday Onwards..

Monday looks to be the warmest day of the extended period, as a low
begins to dig into the northern Rockies and our flow becomes more
and more southwesterly. Many of us are likely to see highs of about
10 to 15 degrees above normal, especially on our far eastern plains,
where low 80s are expected. Continued fire weather concerns are also
likely for Monday afternoon as well, mainly for our plains. Ensemble
guidance continues to bring the trough axis through the region by
Tuesday, with both EPS and GEFS members showing similar timing and
amplitude with recent runs. This will likely bring snow showers to
the Continental Divide, and increasing westerly winds to our plains.
Depending on timing with any associated frontal boundaries, we could
see another day of critical fire weather on our plains for Tuesday
afternoon as well. The main ensemble consistency differences with
this system have to do with moisture and precip potential, with GEFS
members showing better chances for meaningful precipitation making
its way onto our plains, mainly north of highway 50. Models are also
starting to suggest a secondary disturbance developing in the wake
of the first system, which could further help to keep temperatures
cooler for the middle of next week.

Strong winds are expected at all three TAF sites this forecast
period. Winds will shift to the northwest later tonight, gusting
up to about 40 knots at KALS and KCOS, while KPUB will likely see
winds in excess of 50 knots during the afternoon. These strong
winds will last until after sundown tomorrow, only weakening close
to the end of this 24 hour forecast period. Otherwise, VFR
conditions are expected.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.

.DAY ONE...Tonight

Accumulating snow will occur tonight over the San Juans and
central mountains. Storm total accumulations of 8 to 12 inches
are likely over the San Juans, while 4 to 8 inches are likely in
the central mountains.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday

Strong and potentially damaging wind gusts of over 60 mph are
possible Friday over the southern I-25 corridor from Pueblo
southward to the New Mexico border.

Critical fire weather conditions are likely on Friday for the
eastern plains and Interstate 25 corridor with low humidities and
windy weather. The threat for critical fire weather conditions
continues into next week with a dry airmass over the region, and
the chance for winds to exceed critical fire weather values.

Snow may return to mainly the Continental Divide region on Monday
and continue on Tuesday.
