.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front is expected to cross our area later tonight, then a
secondary cold front arrives later Saturday. High pressure builds
closer to our region Sunday into Monday. The next cold front is
currently scheduled to move through Tuesday night, followed by a
secondary cold front during Wednesday. High pressure arrives for
Thursday and Friday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Cold front remains northwest of our region as of 9 PM. It should
continue to very slowly move through our area overnight into
Saturday morning. A weak wave of low pressure may progress
northeastward along the front at that time.

Most of the pre-frontal convection is south of our region at
this point aside from an isolated shower in Kent and Queen
Anne's Counties in MD. The other potential overnight convection
(likely mostly showers) will be with the front. Although the
convection along the front is very limited right now, there is
potential for some additional development as a mid level short
wave trough approaches late tonight.

The cold front will not have much of an initial push of dry air
associated with it. Abundant low level moisture should result in the
development of fog and some low clouds overnight. We have
already seen some patchy fog develop in valleys with
visibilities as low as 1/2 mile reported near Sussex, NJ. At
this point though, confidence is low if we will see dense fog
due to the cloud and shower potential.

The low clouds and patchy fog should linger into part of Saturday
morning. A northwest wind 5 to 10 MPH is expected to develop. Dry
air will likely begin to advect into our region with additional
drying mixing down from aloft. As a result, we are anticipating a
general decrease in cloud cover on Saturday.

Tonight's low temperatures are forecast to be in the 60s and lower
70s. Highs on Saturday should be mostly in the 80s.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
A secondary cold front looks to settle into our area Saturday
evening, although it may tend to stall or dissipate as it does so.
Meanwhile, high pressure centered across central Great Lakes to
parts of Ontario and Quebec Canada starts to build eastward Sunday.
This should result in mainly quiet weather across the area through
Sunday night. However, some guidance continues to suggest that a mid
level feature tracks along an existing baroclinic zone to our south.
This may provide just enough lift for some showers later Sunday
especially across our southern areas. Given quite a bit of
uncertainty with this, opted to keep the forecast dry for now. High
temperatures Sunday will range from the mid/upper 70s to low 80s,
and a northerly wind should start to bring in some lower dew points
with time.

As we go through Monday, an upper-level trough across much of
eastern Canada is forecast to extend southward, and should be
undergoing amplification with time. An initial weak surface high
pressure system in place is forecast to shift east and with some
shortwave energy teaming up with some warm air advection and some
hints of an inverted surface trough, some showers will be possible.
The timing and coverage is less certain given the main trough axis
hanging back well to our west, therefore PoPs were held no higher
than chance. The low-level flow will be onshore and this will result
in some cooler temperatures compared to Sunday, although dew points
should start to also creep upward and therefore turning more humid
once again.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Summary...Unsettled for a time mainly Tuesday into Wednesday with
the passage of a cold front; A period of building swells and
dangerous rip currents along our coast looking probable as Tropical
Cyclone Franklin tracks by well offshore.

Synoptic Overview...An upper-level trough across much of eastern
Canada is forecast to amplify south and eastward through about mid-
week before gradually starting to lift out on Thursday. This trough
is currently forecast to steer Tropical Cyclone Franklin well east
of the Mid-Atlantic coast, however building swells and dangerous rip
currents will be an increased concern for a time. At the surface,
low pressure tracks across the Great Lakes into Tuesday before
moving into Quebec by Wednesday. A cold front is forecast to cross
our area Tuesday night followed by a secondary cold front on
Wednesday, then high pressure builds in Thursday and Friday.

For Tuesday and Wednesday...As an upper-level trough continues to
sharpen south and eastward, a surface cold front is forecast to move
across our area Tuesday night. The associated lift and increasing
moisture should result in some increase in some showers and perhaps
some thunderstorms, although the coverage and intensity will depend
on the magnitude of the forcing and also the available instability
and shear. As of now, the cold front should be off the coast
Wednesday however a secondary cold front moves through during
Wednesday. The secondary cold front should have less moisture to
work with, however still cannot rule out some showers. A much drier
air mass will then start to settle in mainly in the wake of the
secondary cold front. Temperatures are forecast to be on the cooler
side with the expectation of more cloud cover and then also in the
wake of the cold fronts.

For Thursday and Friday...As the upper-level trough lifts out, some
weak ridging is forecast to move across the region. This will bring
surface high pressure into and over our area. A cooler and less
humid air mass is therefore forecast to be in place with this area
of high pressure building in.

.AVIATION /02Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Overnight...VFR with areas of MVFR/IFR conditions developing due
to a combination of BR and low stratus. At this point it appears
likely that all TAF sites will have some impacts, but the
highest risk for IFR conditions is at KMIV and KACY. Variable
wind 5 knots or less, though after 06Z, winds should begin to
settle out of the NW. Medium confidence on the overall pattern,
but low confidence on the details of timing of lower conditions.

Saturday...Some lingering MVFR/IFR conditions in the morning, then
mainly VFR. Northwest wind 5 to 10 knots. Medium to high confidence.

Outlook...

Saturday night...VFR. Northwesterly winds around 10 knots, becoming
light and variable. Moderate confidence.

Sunday...VFR overall. North to northeast winds 5-10 knots,
diminishing some at night. Moderate confidence.

Monday and Tuesday...Chance for some showers/thunder and periods of
sub-VFR conditions, especially Tuesday. Easterly winds near 10
knots, becoming southwest to west later Tuesday night. Low
confidence.

Wednesday...VFR overall, however there is still a chance for some
showers. West to northwest winds increasing to 10-15 knots. Low
confidence.

.MARINE...
A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until 6:00 AM Saturday for
our ocean waters. Although winds have begun to diminish, wave
heights of 5 to 6 feet continue.

A southwest wind 5 to 10 knots on Saturday morning is forecast to
become somewhat variable in the afternoon. Waves on our ocean waters
are expected to be 3 to 4 feet with waves on Delaware Bay at 2 feet
or less.

Outlook...

Saturday night through Wednesday...The conditions are anticipated to
be below Small Craft Advisory criteria overall. Northwest wind gusts
however may near 25 knots later Wednesday. In addition, Tropical
Cyclone Franklin passing us by well offshore later Monday through
Tuesday will push building swells into our area.

Rip currents...

Through tonight, there is a MODERATE risk for the development
of dangerous rip currents for the New Jersey and Delaware
beaches. Seas 4-5 feet, a south-southeasterly wind of 15-20
mph, and an onshore medium to long period swell will result in
the increased risk for dangerous rip currents.

For Saturday, there is a LOW risk for the development of dangerous
rip currents for the New Jersey and Delaware Beaches. Seas will be
diminishing to 3-4 feet with a 5-10 mph offshore wind and a medium
period onshore swell.

For Sunday, there is a LOW risk for the development of dangerous rip
currents. Seas will be diminishing to 2-3 feet with 5-10 mph
northeasterly winds and a medium period onshore swell.

During the first half of next week, a period of building swells and
dangerous rip currents along our coast is looking probable as
Tropical Cyclone Franklin tracks by us well offshore.

EDT...

At 1131 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Smithville, or 11 miles northeast of Hurlock, moving east at 20 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
         possible.
