.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front arrives into our area later tonight then settles south
and eastward Sunday. A warm front then arrives later Monday with a
stronger cold front crossing the area Tuesday. High pressure then
builds in Wednesday into Thursday. The next cold front is scheduled
to move through later Friday with high pressure arriving for
Saturday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Severe Thunderstorm Watch 638 now in effect for northern New
Jersey, the southern Poconos, and the Lehigh Valley until
midnight tonight.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms have affected parts of
southeast Pennsylvania and mostly northern New Jersey. Activity
should wind down going into the evening ahead of a stronger
shortwave that will pass through the region between 00Z and
06Z. These storms will likely have less instability with which
to work, but with increased shear and stronger forcing,
thunderstorms will be capable of damaging winds and large hail.

SPC has the Poconos and Sussex county NJ in a Enhanced Risk of
severe thunderstorms for this evening, and a Slight Risk across
northern NJ into the Lehigh Valley. Locally heavy rain remains
a risk, but primarily in the far north, and storm motion should
generally keep rainfall relatively limited today, with training
the most likely reason to get any flooding.

The cold front from Saturday night will largely wash out across
the region Sunday morning, eventually departing offshore late
Sunday. Given westerly flow, the seabreeze won't make it too far
inland. Otherwise, another warm and humid day on Sunday with
temperatures climbing into the upper 80s/low 90s with dewpoints
in the upper 60s/low 70s.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
Increasing more humid along with a period of showers and thunderstorms.

A trailing front which continues to look weak and potentially even
dissipating across our area may still focus a shower or thunderstorm
Sunday evening mainly across southern Delaware. Otherwise, clouds
should persist through the night.

As we go through Monday, it looks to turn more active again. An
upper-level trough is forecast to gradually shift eastward from the
Midwest and Great Lakes. The guidance is in decent agreement that
this trough has a positive tilt as it shifts eastward. Downstream
moisture and thermal advections will assist in a more humid air mass
working northward across our area especially as a warm front moves
in. While a shower or thunderstorm is possible with the uptick in
moisture/thermal advections and incoming warm front, the forcing
overall looks on the weaker side initially. Our attention then turns
to a stronger shortwave that ejects out ahead of the main through
and moves across our area Monday afternoon and evening. This
shortwave could be convectively enhanced with an accompanied
strengthening low-level jet. Showers and thunderstorms should be on
the increase associated with this feature and with some increase in
shear, convection may organize into a cluster/MCS with some
potential for locally strong/damaging winds. The magnitude of the
severe thunderstorm threat will depend on the degree of instability,
timing and low to mid level lapse rates. The greatest instability
will be south of the warm front. The timing overall looks to be
later Monday afternoon and Monday night for the greater chances for
showers and thunderstorms.

A expansive plume of 2+ inches of precipitable water is forecast to
be in place Monday ahead of the upper-level trough and cold front.
The intersection of an initial southwesterly low-level jet with a
northward moving warm front may enhance locally heavy rainfall
especially where convection becomes more organized later Monday
afternoon and Monday night. While there continues to be some flash
flood threat especially in areas that have been wet the last few
weeks, the placement of the warm front will be key as instability to
its north looks to be minimal. The convection should tend to settle
down overnight Monday night as the main shortwave shifts eastward.
As low pressure tracks to our north though, a cold front looks to
cross our area Tuesday. While Tuesday should be trending drier as
time wears on, still cannot rule out some lingering convection until
the cold front clears the coast and then there is also the
positively tilted upper-level trough arriving. The better drying
looks to take place Tuesday night as the precipitable water values
drop significantly and the trough aloft weakens.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Summary...Cooler and less humid to start but then becoming warmer
and more humid again.

Synoptic Overview...The tailend of a weakening upper-level trough is
forecast to be sliding across our region Wednesday. The flow aloft
in the East then turns more zonal into Thursday before the next
upper-level trough across the Midwest and upper Great Lakes shifts
eastward. Some guidance shows this trough taking on a negative tilt
as it lifts across the Northeast Friday then well to our north
Saturday. At the surface, high pressure builds in Wednesday before
shifting offshore Thursday. A warm front may lift northward across
our area later Thursday, followed by a cold front later Friday.
Surface high pressure then arrives for Saturday.

For Wednesday and Thursday...As the tailend of a weakening upper-
level trough shifts across our area Wednesday, surface high pressure
is currently forecast to build in. This will deliver a cooler and
drier air mass therefore dew points will be in the more comfortable
range. This looks to be short in duration though as high pressure
shifts eastward, with a return flow setting up into Thursday. Well
ahead of an upper-level trough in the Midwest, a warm front is
forecast to lift across our area during Thursday. This will usher in
higher dew points as low-level warm air and moisture advections
increase. Cannot rule out a shower or thunderstorm with the warm
front, but overall forcing looks weak and we then await for the cold
front to arrive. Temperatures Thursday are forecast to be several
degrees warmer than Wednesday and it will also be turning more humid.

For Friday and Saturday...The details during this time frame will
depend on the timing and amplitude of an incoming upper-level
trough. Some guidance shows this trough taking on a negative tilt
which typically strengthens the wind fields and also the forcing for
ascent. This upper-level feature will drive surface low pressure to
our north, however an associated cold front is currently forecast to
cross our area later Friday. The magnitude of the shear and
instability will determine the extent of convection ahead of and
with the incoming cold front. This upper-level trough looks
progressive therefore it lifts to our north into Saturday with high
pressure at the surface to build in. It will be very warm and humid
ahead of this cold front.

.AVIATION /00Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Tonight...Overall, VFR initially. SHRA and TSRA will affect the
terminals this evening. General timeframe will be: KRDG/KABE
from 00Z to 04Z, KTTN/KPNE/KPHL/KILG from 02Z to 06Z, and
KMIV/KACY from 03Z to 07Z, though chances will be lower at
KMIV/KACY. After the storms end, there is a chance for
fog/stratus with at least MVFR conditions, though conditions may
be IFR or lower, depending if heavy rain falls at or near a
given terminal. S winds 5 to 10 kt, become LGT/VRB. Low
confidence.

Sunday...VFR after 13Z. Westerly winds 5 to 10 kt, increasing to
10 to 15 kt with 20 to 25 kt gusts in the afternoon. Moderate
confidence.

Outlook...

Sunday Night...VFR overall. Winds becoming light and variable.
Moderate confidence.

Monday...A period of sub-VFR conditions, especially later in the
afternoon and at night with some showers and thunderstorms. Light
and variable winds becoming southeast to southwest around 10 knots.
Low confidence.

Tuesday...VFR overall. A few showers and thunderstorms are possible.
Southwest to west winds increasing to 10-15 knots with gusts up to
20 knots, then diminishing to less than 10 knots at night. Low
confidence.

Wednesday and Thursday...VFR. Northwest to west winds 5-10 knots
Wednesday, then southerly 5-10 knots Thursday. Moderate confidence.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for ANZ450 until midnight
tonight.

Conditions will remain below Small Craft Advisory levels
through tonight. Winds will be southerly at 10-15 kts with a few
gusts up around 20 kts. Seas will be 2-4 ft. Main concern will
be potential gusty thunderstorms this afternoon into tonight,
with the highest risk over the waters north of Atlantic City NJ.

Sunday...No marine headlines expected. Southwest winds around

Outlook...

Rip currents...

Winds generally remain parallel to the coast with south to
southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph on
Sunday. There will be a medium period southeast swell. There
will be a LOW risk for the development of dangerous rip
currents at New Jersey and Delaware beaches on Sunday.

On Monday, a light onshore flow will develop, though winds turn
south in the afternoon at 5 to 10 mph. There will be a medium
period southeast swell. There will be a LOW risk for the
