At 255 AM EST, a snow squall was located along a line extending from
Millbrook to near McMichael to Weatherly. Movement was south at 25
mph.
Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph are possible with this squall, with snow
reducing visibility to less than one mile.

.SYNOPSIS...
An arctic cold front will plunge southward across our region
this morning. Blustery and very cold conditions are expected
into Saturday as strong high pressure builds. High pressure
moves offshore Sunday, ahead of a weak cold front on Monday.
Temperatures gradually increase through midweek where the
weather pattern may become unsettled.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
The arctic front is on its way overnight, knocking on the door
of the northwestern corner of our county warning area. Upstream
radar shows a line of briefly moderate snow showers along the
front, due to arrive toward 2 to 4 AM. High- res models have a
decent handle on the progression of this line, but aren't in
perfect agreement with how far southeast this activity makes
it, even as they all generally concur that the snow showers will
diminish in coverage and intensity. Have raised POPs and added
snow showers down into the Lehigh Valley and portions of
northwestern New Jersey for a few hours, and will probably add a
slight chance down to near the I-95 corridor, as radar trends
and hi-res guidance argue for at least some flurries reaching
there toward 5 AM or so, before the activity is gone for the
rest of the morning. Wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph may accompany
the front as winds shift to northwest, with a blustery morning
ahead for the entire area aside from any predawn snow showers.
At the mid-levels, anomalously low 500 mb heights (<500 dam
across New England) will spread south as 850 mb temperatures are
progged to drop into the -15C to -25C range, reaching minimum
values by Friday evening. This means that temperatures will not
rise during the daytime hours (steady in the 10s and 20s), and
likely falling a few degrees as the day progresses.
Winds will also increase behind the front as the pressure gradient
intensifies over the area, likely reaching a peak Friday afternoon
and evening. Winds are forecast to peak around 20-25 mph during this
time with widespread gusts of 30-40 mph. The strongest gusts will
occur near the coasts and in the higher terrain near and northwest
of I-78.
By Friday evening, temperatures will be falling into the 10s across
much of the area with wind chills dropping to near 0 degrees and
below 0 degrees northwest of I-95. Low temperatures Friday night are
forecast to range from near 10 degrees south of I-78 and in the
single digits near and north of I-78. The northwest winds will
continue overnight around 15-20 mph with gusts of 25-35 mph.
Resulting forecast minimum wind chills will occur overnight with
values ranging from near 0 degrees across Delmarva and far southern
New Jersey, to 0 to -10 degrees near I-95, southeastern
Pennsylvania, and central New Jersey, and to -10 to -25 degrees near
and north of I-78. The Wind Chill Advisory continues for Carbon,
Monroe, and Sussex (NJ) Counties for Friday night and Saturday
morning. The advisory may need to be expanded if confidence
increases further in the -15 degree criteria being met across any of
the adjacent zones immediately to the south.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Arctic airmass will be over the area on Saturday with surface high
pressure south of Delmarva, over the Mid-Atlantic region. Northwest
winds associated with mid-level troughing will continue to allow
cold air advection into the region. 850 mb temperatures will range
from around -10C in Delmarva to as low as -15C in the southern Poconos
and northern New Jersey. As a result, high temperatures will range
from the teens in the southern Poconos to the low to mid 20s north
and west of the Fall Line, and in the mid to upper 20s south of the
Fall Line, and around 30 in southern Delmarva. Northwest winds will
diminish by midday, and then as the surface high flattens out and
slides offshore, winds will take on more of a southwest flow late
Saturday and Saturday night.
Warm air advection will then be underway Saturday night through
Sunday. The lowest temperature Saturday night is likely to occur in
the evening with temperatures warming through the overnight hours.
Lows will be in the teens and low 20s. Clouds will begin to spread
into the region after midnight as well.
Sunday will be dry and cloudy with temperatures warming to above
normal levels for this time of the year with highs in the 30s in the
southern Poconos, and otherwise in the mid to upper 40s, and around
50 in southern Delmarva.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Upper level trough continues to be on pace to pivot into the area
Sunday night into Monday, however does appear to be slightly more
progressive than yesterday. Guidance is still in good agreement that
northern and southern stream energy will phase well off to our east
across the Western Atlantic on Monday. The majority of ensemble
members continue to show at least some precipitation spreading
across our coastal areas Sunday night associated with this feature.
With this being said, have opted to introduce a slight chance of
PoPs confined to all coastal areas into Monday morning. By morning,
the base of upper trough will swing through with subtle cold front
pushing offshore. With clearing skies into the afternoon, highs
should generally be in the mid-upper 40s to low 50s.
High pressure over the Ohio Valley will build in its wake shifting
off the Delmarva on Tuesday. This will cause winds to veer to a more
southerly component and allow a noticeable warming trend into
the middle of the week with highs in the mid-upper 50s to near
60 degrees. At the same time, the weather pattern may become
unsettled Wednesday into Thursday as there is a wide array of
solutions with regards to timing of next weather system. Have
stayed close to NBM guidance, with a chance of showers along
with the mild temperatures.

The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE,
KRDG, KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Tonight...Mainly VFR, but some MVFR conditions with snow showers
may reach ABE and RDG, with some low VFR ceilings and flurries
possible toward I-95 by 10Z or so. Southwest winds around 10
kts during the evening will shift to the west then northwest
behind a cold front and increase to around 10-15 kts in the
08-11Z timeframe with gusts near 20-25 kts. Moderate confidence.
Friday...VFR. Northwest winds 15-25 kts with gusts 25-35 kts. High
confidence.
Friday night...VFR. Northwest winds 15-25 kts and gusts 25-35 kts
early will begin to subside by 06Z to around 10-15 kts. High
confidence.
Outlook...
Saturday...VFR. NW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt,
becoming SW in the afternoon. High confidence.

Southwest winds 10-15 kts this evening will shift to the northwest
and increase to 15-20 kts in the predawn hours Friday. Gusts around
25 kts will develop across the waters overnight, especially near and
north of Atlantic City. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect
beginning late tonight for all coastal waters. Seas 2-3 feet. Fair
weather.
Small Craft Advisory conditions will continue through Friday night
with gale force wind gusts around 35 kts possible. Northwest winds
20-30 kts with gusts around 30-35 kts. Gale force wind gusts near 35
kts are most likely to occur north of Atlantic City Friday evening
through early Friday night, where the Small Craft Advisory was
upgraded to a Gale Warning. Seas building to 3-6 feet. Light to
moderate freezing spray is likely beginning Friday. A Freezing Spray
Advisory has been issued, which is in effect from Friday into
Saturday.

Saturday...SCA conditions in the morning with NW winds 15 to 20
kt with gusts up to 25 kt, diminishing to 10 to 15 kt in the
late morning/early afternoon. Winds shift to the SW late in the
day and gusts up to 20 kt will develop. Seas 3 to 4 feet.
