.SYNOPSIS...
The remnants of Ophelia will drift across our area tonight
before pushing slowly offshore Monday into Tuesday. High
pressure builds over southern Quebec and the Northeast states
through early Thursday. A chance for showers returns Thursday
and Friday before high pressure returns through next weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
As of 200 AM, remnant low center of Ophelia looks to be near
Philadelphia  based on radar and surface observations. Forcing
for ascent continues north of the center, with the heaviest and
most expansive areas of rain pushed almost completely out of the
area. Lingering rain within the region has become more lighter
in intensity overall with more breaks. Since there are breaks,
continued using periods of rain where categorical PoPs (75
percent and greater) are forecast. The forecast soundings
especially farther southward across our area show some mid level
drying working downward some through the night, therefore where
forcing for ascent is rather weak there could be some drizzle.
Cloud bases have begun to lower once again with the light winds
across much of the region and moist low-levels. Along with the
stratus, some fog has begun to develop especially where the
wind has been able to drop off more.

Otherwise, as remnant low Ophelia drifts east tonight before
moving just offshore on Monday a midlevel low with strong
shortwave energy will will lift into the Northeast on Monday.
Meanwhile, high pressure lies over eastern Canada.

With the surface low just off the New Jersey coast on Monday,
rain will continue to develop over the northern half of the area
into Monday. PWATs will continue to lower through the day to
1.5 to 1.8 inches, so the heaviest pockets of rain have likely
already occurred.

In addition, the pressure gradient between the surface low and
high pressure in eastern Canada will tighten as the low drifts
to the north and east. After winds diminish tonight, north to
northeast winds ramp back up on Monday to 15 to 20 mph with 20
to 30 mph gusts especially from about the I-95 corridor on
eastward. Another cool day on tap with highs generally in the
60s.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The weakness in the pressure field (leftover Ophelia) remains
offshore Monday night and Tuesday. At the same time, strong high
pressure across southern Canada and New England begins to build
southward. Between these two systems, the pressure gradient
tightens up and a decent onshore flow will resume across the
Northern Middle Atlantic region. This will produce a
continuation of cloudy and showery conditions to the area. By
Wednesday, enough dry air and better placement of the high will
result in more fair weather especially for inland areas. We'll
carry chances for showers Mon night for most areas and then
taper pops down from W to E from Tue/Tue night. Abundant amounts
of clouds will be over the area during the short term with
better conditions possible by later Wed.

Temperatures will remain below normal thru the period with
highs both Tue/Wed favoring the low 60s for the NW areas and
mid/upper 60s for Delmarva and south NJ.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Blocking pattern will continue through the end of the week as
upper ridge extends up toward Hudson Bay and upper trough
lingers near the Great Lakes. Blocking pattern shows signs that
it will start to break down by next weekend as the trough axis
gradually shifts east over the Mid-Atlantic. As a result, the
strong 1030+ mb high out of Quebec will be parked over the
Northeast US through Thursday. As upper trough pivots closer
toward the area, the chance of showers will increase Wednesday
night through Friday. Not expecting a washout by any means, but
PoPs will remain in the 25-40% range in combination with upper
trough, increasing WAA and continued northeast flow off the
Atlantic Ocean.

By next weekend, the high will broaden across much of the
interior Northeast extending its ridge into the Mid-Atlantic as
the trough begins to make its way offshore. For now, most of the
weekend appears to be rain-free, but ensemble guidance still
shows signs of some showers near the coast on Saturday. Left a
slight chance of showers in these areas but dry elsewhere.

Temperatures throughout the long term period will remain on the
cooler side only in the upper 60s to low 70s. Definitely a
taste of Autumn as September comes to a close.

.AVIATION /06Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas...

Tonight...Lingering VFR conditions mainly south and east of PHL
are forecast to lower to MVFR and then IFR. North and west of
there, MVFR/IFR conditions are expected to persist with even
times of LIFR possible. Visibility restrictions will occur
during times of rain especially north and west of PHL, and then
also possible with some fog overnight. Mostly northeast winds
5-10 knots with even some terminals going light and variable to
calm. Low confidence regarding the details, especially timing,
of when the VFR conditions lower to MVFR/IFR.

Monday...IFR ceilings may lift to low-end MVFR through the day.
Occasional MVFR visibility during some rain especially north of
PHL. North to northeast winds 5-10 knots, increasing to 15-20
knots with gusts up to 25 knots from mid-morning into the
afternoon. Strongest winds should be closer to the coast. Low
confidence.

Outlook...

Monday night/Tuesday...Mostly VFR RDG/KABE but more low clouds
and showers for Delaware Valley and srn NJ sites. MVFR/IFR
possible there. Moderate confidence.

Tuesday night/Wednesday... Mostly VFR. Patchy fog possible Tue
night. Moderate confidence.

Wednesday night...VFR. NE winds around 10 kt with isolated
gusts up to 15-20 kt. High confidence.

Thursday through Friday...Primarily VFR with sub-VFR possible
with any rain showers that occur. NE-E winds around 10-15 kt
with isolated gusts up to 20 kt. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
Remnant low Ophelia will track across southern New Jersey
tonight, and then will be off the New Jersey and Delaware coasts
on Monday. Pressure gradient relaxes tonight before tightening
back up Monday afternoon.

There are no headlines for Delaware Bay. A Small Craft Advisory
is in effect for the Delaware ocean waters through tonight,
mainly for elevated seas. Seas subside tonight, and then sub-SCA
conditions in place through Monday.

For the northern New Jersey ocean waters, there will be
occasional gale force gusts into this evening, but winds
diminish tonight and seas remain elevated. Winds ramp up Monday
afternoon, and 35 to 40 kt gusts will develop. A SCA is in
effect through tonight, and then a Gale Warning is in effect for
Monday.

For the southern New Jersey ocean waters, a SCA remains in
effect through at least Monday.

Seas subside to 4 to 6 feet tonight, then build back up to 8 to
10 feet on Monday.

Outlook...

Gales and SCA flags issued for the NJ ocean waters Mon night
with the strong high building in from the North. SCA conditions
may be needed for Delware Bay. Scattered showers. SCA will
likely linger into Tue/Tue night for the ocean with more
scattered showers expected. By Wed, the weather will become
mostly fair, but continued SCA for seas on the ocean.

Thursday...SCA conditions possible. NE-E winds around 15-20 kt
with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 4-6 feet.

Friday...SCA conditions possible. NE-E winds around 15-20 kt
with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 4-6 feet.

Rip Currents...

A west to northwest wind 5 to 10 mph is expected for the
Delaware Beaches and for Cape May County in New Jersey on
Monday. Breaking waves should be around 2 to 3 feet. As a
result, we have been able to lower the rip current risk to
MODERATE for those areas for Monday. An increasing north to
northeast wind is anticipated for the coastline from Monmouth
County down to Atlantic County on Monday with breaking waves of
3 to 5 feet. Those areas will likely continue to experience a
HIGH risk for the development of dangerous rip currents at that
time.

The increasing northeast wind and building surf will affect the
entire New Jersey coast and the Delaware coast on Tuesday. All
areas will again be under a HIGH risk for rip currents.

The elevated risk of rip currents will likely continue through
much of the balance of the new week.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
The widespread minor tidal flooding with today's high tide has
come to an end. However, trapped water in some of the bays will
continue to cause issues overnight into Monday morning. We have
extended the Coastal Flood Advisory for Ocean County in New
Jersey until 9:00 AM Monday to cover residual minor flooding
along Barnegat Bay. We have also extended the Coastal Flood
Advisory for Sussex County in Delaware to cover residual minor
flooding along Rehoboth Bay, Indian River Bay and Little
Assawoman Bay.

Some trapped water in the upper part of Chesapeake Bay may also
continue to result in some minor flooding along the upper
eastern shore overnight. As a result, that area remains under a
Coastal Flood Advisory until 8:00 AM Monday.

The coming week's full (Harvest) moon will have particularly
high astronomical tides associated with it. Based on the latest
guidance showing a return of onshore flow, we are expecting to
see additional periods of minor tidal flooding as we go through
the new week.
