.SYNOPSIS...
A weak short-wave remains near the area causing a few showers
with otherwise tranquil and seasonable conditions. Low pressure
will track across the Great Lakes on today, pushing a cold
front and returning chances for showers and storms toward our
area by tonight. The front will push offshore on Friday with
cooler and drier high pressure settling into the region through
Saturday. Dry conditions and a warming trend are forecast
through early next week as the high pressure departs offshore.
Another system may impact the area by Tuesday or Wednesday of
next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
A warm and muggy airmass will be over the area through this
morning, and with light and variable to calm winds, fog and
stratus have developed and are spreading into the area from the
coast. Lows will mostly be in the mid to upper 60s, except
around 70 in Philadelphia and along the coasts, and in the upper
50s to low 60s in the southern Poconos.

Going into the daytime, a weak surface trough will remain in
the vicinity. Today will feature highs in the 80s for the most
part. Some 70s are expected across the southern Poconos. With
the approaching mid-level trough and surface cold front,
combined with increased instability, there should be a bit more
in the way of showers into this afternoon. Not expecting it to
be a washout by any stretch, but parameters support more
coverage compared yesterday. There is also a chance of
thunderstorms. SPC just has the region in the General Category.
Expecting a fair amount of clouds on Thursday. Winds should be
SE in the morning and become more southerly in the afternoon.
Speeds will be light in the morning and increase to near 10-15
mph in the afternoon, a bit stronger along the bays and ocean.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Few changes to the short term forecast. A longwave trough axis
will approach the region from the northwest and cross the area
on Friday. An associated surface low and cold front will follow
suit Thursday night into Friday.

The cold front remains on track to cross the region fairly
quickly sometime late Thursday night into early Friday. We will
have plenty of forcing for convection with the height falls and
surface cold front moving through overnight. However, the
limited window of return flow and unfavorable timing of the
forcing should mean a very limited severe weather threat with
this system. Currently anticipate to see some scattered showers
and embedded storms with brief heavy downpours, the greatest
coverage of which would be across the more northwestern portion
of the area. If more robust convection develops upstream during
the day, we could see areas of stratiform rain and convective
debris. Long story short, nothing to write home about. Southerly
winds around 5-10 mph will shift westerly and increase a bit
after the front passes. Low temperatures will be within a few
degrees of 70.

The front should be making its way offshore by daybreak Friday.
The anomalously cold mid-level temperatures should result in
some lingering showers behind the front, at least early in the
day, mainly across the northerly half of the area. Temperatures
will be a few degrees below normal in the low to mid 80s. A
breezy west to northwest wind will develop during the day.
Sustained winds around 10-15 mph are forecast with gusts in the
20-30 mph range. Temperatures will fall to around 60 degrees
Friday night with a northwest breeze continuing overnight.

Conditions on Saturday will be slightly cooler as high pressure
settles into the region. Winds may still be a bit breezy but
generally lower compared to Friday as the pressure gradient
begins to relax as the high pushes in. Otherwise, a dry day is
expected with dew points dropping into the 50s. High
temperatures are forecast to top out in the upper 70s to low
80s.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Expansive ridging will take hold across the central CONUS.
Another trough may dive southeast across the Great Lakes early
next week, but there is still some variability on the potential
synoptic solutions beyond Sunday roughly. Potential tropical
remnants offshore of the Baja California peninsula and southern
California could influence the amplitude of the mid-level
pattern across the CONUS, and thus the weather across our region
locally into early next week.

High pressure in the region will begin to move offshore Saturday
night into Sunday. Expect lows near 60 degrees again Saturday
night. We'll start warming up again by Sunday with temperatures
returning to near normal, although dewpoints and humidity will
remain low.

The deterministic GFS and CMC solutions have backed off on the
more amplified pattern early next week becoming closer aligned
to the ECMWF which has been less amplified. The ensemble suites
of all three support this trend as well. With this trend, the
forecast now remains dry into early next week. However, given
the factors mentioned above, uncertainty remains high in this
period so another strong trough and cold front sweeping through
the area cannot be completely ruled out of the forecast. Latest
guidance trends towards Tuesday night into Wednesday if we do
see precipitation so PoPs have been adjusted to match.

.AVIATION /06Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Through 12Z...VFR initially, but MVFR/IFR will develop and
spread in fog/stratus. LGT/VRB to winds, favoring an easterly
direction. Moderate confidence.

Today (12Z through 00Z)...Conditions improve to VFR by 16Z or
so. Isolated to scattered SHRA/TSRA possible in the afternoon,
but confidence is too low to mention in the TAF at this time
aside from ACY/MIV. SE-S winds 5 to 10 kt. Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Tonight...Prevailing VFR early, although MVFR ceilings are
likely to develop as the night progresses. Scattered showers
and storms as a cold front crosses the area. MVFR or IFR
possible with the scattered convection. Southerly winds 5-10 kts
will shift west to northwest overnight behind the front.
Moderate confidence.

Friday...VFR. Slight chance of a shower in the morning.
Northwest winds 10-15 kts with gusts around 20-25 kts. Winds
lessening into the night. High confidence.

Saturday through Monday...VFR. West to northwest winds 5-10
kts during the day each day. Winds become light and variable
overnight each night. High confidence.
