.SYNOPSIS...
An overall unsettled weather pattern will persist through next week.
The closed low over the Southeast lifts north and devolves into a
trough that slowly drifts across the Mid Atlantic region through the
weekend. Another area of low pressure slowly moves in from the
northwest on Monday, slowly dropping a cold front through our region
Tuesday into Wednesday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Surface high pressure drifting east of the Gulf of Maine will
continue to shift farther offshore, while ridging extending across
New England and New York steadily weakens. That is giving way to a
weak coastal low tracking offshore, that is in associating with a
shortwave rotating north around a larger scale upper low centered
over the Tennessee Valley. More concentrated shower and thunderstorm
activity has stayed well offshore of the mid-Atlantic coast, and
models were clearly too far west with steadier rain overnight into
this morning. As of the predawn hours Thursday, we have seen a half-
inch to an inch of rain south of Cape May, but only a tenth or two-
tenths of an inch from Philadelphia to Tom's River, and very light
amounts north of there.

Light rain will continue to spread northward over the Poconos and
northern NJ through this morning. Raised POPs overnight through
early this morning accordingly, but then lowered POPs much of the
rest of today including into early evening, going coverage- based in
the weather grids. Models are in good agreement that our area will
be in between shortwaves today, with only isolated shower activity
after the initial batch of warm advection light rain lifts north
this morning. Additionally, limited isolated thunderstorms to the
Delmarva for this afternoon. Lightning overnight has been restricted
to areas well offshore, or well south toward North Carolina, where
the airmass is more unstable. That air will eventually arrive here,
but will not make a substantial push northward until tonight into
Friday, with the next shortwave trough and associated weak surface
low rotating northward. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will
likely increase from south to north this evening across Maryland and
Delaware, and after midnight across the rest of our region. With
forecast soundings showing near-saturation through much of the
atmosphere overnight, precipitable water values approaching 2
inches, and some 'long and skinny' CAPE values, will have to keep an
eye out for heavy downpours later Thursday night into Friday
morning. Cell motions should be quick enough to preclude much of a
flooding threat tonight, unless training occurs.

Otherwise, with the warm front still hanging out around the Delmarva
today, temperatures across most of our region will be steady in the
60s, with only mid to upper 70s possible from Cape May to southern
DE/MD. Winds at the coast are still gusty this morning, over 30 mph
long the shore, but those will ease south of Barnegat Light this
morning, and continue to drop off through tonight. With warm, humid
air pushing northward tonight, fog may develop, particularly along
the coast, and dewpoints will rise through the 60s to near 70 in
southern portions by Friday morning.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
Our closed low turned open trough over the Mid Atlantic will slowly
push eastward with an associated broad area of surface low pressure
meandering out over Pennsylvania. A warm front will lift through our
region on Friday morning, with modest warm air advection commencing
in the wake of the front. Additional lift will also be supplied with
steady positive vorticity advection as the trough slowly moves
toward our region Friday and Saturday. This will result in periods
of showers and thunderstorms for both days. Severe threat looks
minimal overall due to the lack of shear, but there is certainly the
possibility for flash flooding.

Regarding the hydro concerns, some of the warning signs are there
for flash flooding even though most of the region remains in a
precipitation deficit. Model soundings show a CAPE profile that is
long and skinny, with a warm cloud layer well over 10k feet,
indicating rainfall will be mildly efficient. PWATs will be around
1.75 to 2.00 inches, which falls above the 90th percentile for late
June. Storm motion will be around 20 kt or so, but as we get within
range of some of the CAMs, they do show the potential for multiple
rounds of heavy rainfall in some spots. Important to note that the
Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has the entire region in a MARGINAL
risk for excessive rainfall on Friday.

Once the warm front moves through on Friday morning, dewpoints will
climb into the 70s, with warm and muggy conditions both Friday and
Saturday. Temperatures will climb into the low to mid 80s. Muggy and
overcast conditions will keep temperatures elevated on Friday night,
with mid to upper 60s anticipated with some spots staying above
70.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Long term period still looks rather unsettled overall. Latest
guidance for the most part has the trough slowly crawling through
our region into Sunday, with another round of showers and
thunderstorms likely to close out the weekend. Should be similar
overall to Saturday as there will be some instability, but very
little in the way of shear. We will have to continue monitoring the
flooding potential for Sunday, especially in urban and poor drainage
areas, as storm motions are expected to be rather weak once again.
Temperatures will climb into the mid 80s for most spots.

The overall pattern turns slightly more progressive into early next
week, however shower and thunderstorm chances remain. A trough will
be digging through the Great Lakes, potentially taking on a negative
tilt as it gets to our region. An area of low pressure will slide by
to the northwest, dropping a cold front through our region. Monday
more than any day in the extended looks to have some severe weather
potential due to strong forcing, increased shear, and sufficient
instability. Still a long way out though, and timing differences
remain among guidance. Monday also looks to be the warmest day with
temperatures getting into the mid to upper 80s with the potential
for some spots to hit the 90 mark.

Beyond Monday, there is some signal that the trough could slow down
as it reaches the East Coast. This results in the frontal boundary
slowing moving through or even stalling out in our region.
Temperatures look to be cooler on Tuesday and Wednesday but shower
and thunderstorm chances remain. Stuck close to the NBM for PoPs due
to uncertainty in the timing and positioning of the front.

.AVIATION /08Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
THE FOLLOWING DISCUSSION IS FOR KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY AND SURROUNDING AREAS.

light rain lifting north, lowest near 12Z and beyond. E to NE winds

to ceilings, with MVFR to occasional IFR VSBY as well, especially in
the morning with light rain lifting out from south to north, and
just isolated showers for the rest of the day.

Rip Currents...

For Thursday, the strong northeast to east wind will diminish
some from south to north and turn southeast. This will start to
lower the waves in the surf zone, however the continuation of
agitated surf will maintain a HIGH risk for the development of
dangerous rip currents for both the New Jersey and Delaware
beaches (at least through the first half of the day). The High
Surf Advisory continues through 8 AM Thursday for all Atlantic
Beaches except Monmouth County.

For Friday, a moderate easterly swell will continue but winds
will shift to more southerly around 15-20mph with seas in the
surf zone around 2-4 feet. This is expected to result in a
moderate risk of rip currents for all Atlantic Beaches.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Increasing easterly flow with low pressure to the south has
elevated anomalies on the ocean and bays. Coastal flood
advisories are in effect for tonight's high tide cycle across
the southern New Jersey and Delaware coasts, including
Delaware's bay shore. Thereafter, the flow shifts to a more
southerly direction and the anomalies are expected to dwindle on
Thursday and Friday.
