.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure is slowly moving away from our area this afternoon.
High pressure builds over the area tonight into Sunday morning,
then another storm system will affect the region Monday into
Tuesday. High pressure returns later Wednesday and Thursday,
then a cold front may approach later Friday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Precipitation has steadily wound down late this morning as low
pressure heads off the coast. A tight pressure gradient
develops over the area between low pressure passing through the
area and high pressure building into the Ohio Valley for this
afternoon. North winds will increase to 15 to 20 mph with 25 to
30 mph gusts. Highs will top off in the low to mid 40s, which
are below normal for this time of the year.

Winds diminish and skies clear out tonight as high pressure
builds east and low pressure departs. Lows generally in the
lower 20s in the southern Poconos and in the mid to upper 20s
most elsewhere. Lows will be around 30 in Philadelphia and
Delmarva.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Sunday, both upper level and surface ridge axes pass overhead
with the next low approaching from the Upper Midwest. Warm
advection aloft will cause morning sunshine to quickly fade
behind thickening and lower clouds, with rain possible southwest
of Philadelphia late in the day, though most likely, it holds
off until after sunset. Temperatures will be near to slightly
below normal, with upper 40s common.

Sunday night, ridge axis passes east of New England while closed
low moves into the Great Lakes. Surface low accompanying the
upper low begins to weaken over the eastern Great Lakes while
new surface low pressure begins to take shape along the
Carolina coast. Warm advection precip will break out across
western areas, with precip likely across most of the area after
midnight early Monday morning. Enough cold air looks present to
result in snow across the Poconos with some mixing into the
Lehigh Valley and northwest NJ, while further south, mainly
rain is expected south of the I-78 corridor. Temps will drop
into the mid to upper 30s for most, with low 30s in the
Poconos and northwest. Winter Weather Advisories may be needed
for the Poconos by this time, but uncertainty remains high
regarding snowfall given the warm air being advected in.

Monday, upper low continues moving eastward across the lower
Great Lakes. The primary low drifts into southern Ontario as it
continues to weaken while the secondary low strengthens and
moves northward off the Virginia capes. Widespread rain is
expected for the majority of the forecast area, but the Poconos
may still have mixing issues at least in the morning. Temperatures
likely end up in the 40s from I-95 south and east, possibly all
the way to the Lehigh Valley, but staying in the mid 30s in the
Poconos.

Monday night, closed upper low pushes into far western New York
and northwestern Pennsylvania. Primary surface low will have
completely dissipated by this point as the secondary low off the
coast strengthens and moves northward towards eastern Long
Island. Rainfall will begin to taper off in the Delmarva,
possibly even into the Philly metro area, while further north
and east, cold air may start wrapping back south and allow rain
to change back to snow. Again, storm track will make all the
difference here, as if it stays a bit further east, precip may
end too soon for much changeover, while if it stays tucked in
too much, changeover will be difficult with warmer air nearer to
the low center. Temps may fall back toward freezing for many
areas, where as mentioned it may become a race between drying
and chilling.

Tuesday, low pressure will be deepening as it moves into
southern New England. Wraparound precip may still be an issue,
and since we'll be on the colder side, this may result in snow
or rain/snow showers, but uncertainty remains high. However, we
are reasonably confident in plenty of wind, with wind
advisories at least possible. Highs in the upper 30s to low 40s
for many, which will feel even colder with the gusty winds.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
By Tuesday night into Wednesday, low pressure will be slowly
heading eastward back into the Atlantic. By this point, precip
is more likely to be done, but winds may continue thru much of
the day. Temps will fall into the upper 20s to low 30s for most
locations Tuesday night before moderating back towards the 40s
Wednesday. The surface pressure gradient looks to remain rather
sharp though and as a result wind gusts around 35 to 40 mph
remain possible.

Later Wednesday into Thursday, high pressure will build in from
the south and west. This will help finally relax the pressure
gradient and winds will decrease. Temps returning to near
normal, which is near 50 at this point.

Friday, high pressure slides east into the Atlantic while the
next frontal boundary approaches from the northwest. Warm
advection ahead of the front likely brings temps above normal
for the first time in a while. Chance precip still highly
uncertain as timing differences remain significant.

.AVIATION /18Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Today (through 00Z)...conditions slowly improving to VFR
starting from west to east this afternoon. N winds 15 to 20 kt
with 20 to 25 kt gusts. Moderate confidence.

Tonight (00Z through 12Z)...VFR. NW winds 5 to 10 kt. High
confidence.

Outlook...

Sunday...VFR conditions with 5 to 10 knots northerly winds
becoming southeasterly. Moderate confidence.

Monday...Conditions become sub-VFR as precipitation moves into
the region early Monday morning. Rain expected for most
terminals with a rain/snow mix or snow for terminals near and
north of KABE. Southeast winds of 5 to 10 knots become
northwesterly Monday night and increase to 15 to 20 knots.
Moderate confidence.

Tuesday...Lingering sub-VFR conditions with rain and snow
showers. Northwesterly winds increasing to 20 to 25 knots with
gusts up to 35 knots. Moderate confidence on overall pattern,
low confidence on restrictions.

Wednesday...VFR conditions with clearing skies likely. Northwest
winds 20 to 25 knots with gusts 30 to 35 knots. Moderate
confidence.

.MARINE...
Gale Warnings remain in effect. North winds increase to 20 to
30 kt with 35 to 40 kt gusts continue early this afternoon. For
Delaware Bay, N winds will average 15 to 20 kt with 25 to 30 kt
gusts. A SCA remains in effect.

Northwest winds diminish tonight, but seas remain elevated on the
ocean at 5 to 7 feet. A SCA will be needed after the Gale Warning
expires.

Outlook...

Sunday through Monday...Small Craft Advisory conditions
expected for Atlantic coastal waters. Waves will be gradually
decreasing from 5 to 7 feet on Sunday to 4 to 6 feet on Monday.
Winds of 10 to 15 knots on Sunday increase to 15 to 20 knots on
Monday. Sub-SCA conditions expected for the Delaware Bay.

Monday Night through Tuesday...Gales likely. Winds become
northwesterly and increase to 25 to 30 knots with gusts up to 45
knots possible. Seas build to 5 to 7 feet.

Wednesday...Gales possible. Northwest winds begin to decrease to
20 to 25 knots with gusts of 35 to 40 knots. Seas decrease to 4
to 6 feet.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Stronger northeast winds from a departing coastal low
eventually back more towards the north or northwest by Saturday
evening. This will initially push water towards the coast which
may prevent tidal waters from fully receding during low tide on
Saturday. With the winds eventually becoming more northerly,
water may also become trapped in places like Barnegat Bay. The
resulting combination of higher water levels ahead of high tide
makes minor tidal flooding likely with the Saturday night/Sunday
morning high tide along the New Jersey and Delaware coasts of
the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay. Therefore, a Coastal Flood
Advisory has been issued for these locations. Locally moderate
tidal flooding also remains possible, particularly along the
backbays of Barnegat Bay, Rehoboth Bay, Indian River Bay, and
Little Assawoman Bay. Spotty minor to minor flooding is expected
along the Raritan Bay in Middlesex County, New Jersey and along
the tidal Delaware River.

A second round of spotty minor to minor flooding is possible
for the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay coasts of New Jersey and
Delaware with the Sunday night/Monday morning high tide.

Tidal flooding is not currently expected on the Eastern Shore
of Maryland along the Chesapeake Bay.
