.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front is moving across our area this morning. High
pressure generally builds to our northwest Sunday into Monday,
then another cold front arrives Monday night into Tuesday. Low
pressure meanders near Nova Scotia Canada Tuesday through
Thursday, then high pressure builds across the Great Lakes to
the Ohio Valley regions into Friday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SUNDAY MORNING/...
930AM Update: Made some minuscule changes to the forecast,
mostly pertaining to morning cloud cover with progression of
cold front from north to south. Temperatures where the sun is
shining have warmed up well, already pushing into the low to mid
70s across S NJ, E PA and the Delmarva. Elsewhere, temps are
generally in the mid-upper 60s. Otherwise, the remainder of the
forecast remains as per previous discussion:
A closed low will sink southward across New England through
tonight. This will push a backdoor cold front through the area
this morning with breezy northeast winds in its wake.
Northeast winds will increase to around 10-15 mph with gusts
around 20-25 mph. Winds will be a bit stronger near the coasts,
with gusts around 35 mph likely along the Atlantic coast by this
afternoon and evening. By early afternoon, a few showers or
thunderstorms may develop across the Poconos, Lehigh Valley, and
Berks County. No severe weather is expected. High temperatures
will be mainly in the 70s, about 10-20 degrees cooler than
Friday. Highs will be closer to the mid 60s near the coast.
Any diurnal showers will move out into the evening as skies begin to
finally clear out. Northeast will remain elevated around 10 mph
overnight for most areas with the north-northeast pressure gradient
in place. It will be a rather cool night for early June. Low
temperatures are forecast to range from the mid 40s across northern
New Jersey, interior southern New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania to
the low to mid 50s in the immediate urban areas and Delmarva.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
A blocky pattern in the upper levels will result in a closed low
centered near the Northeastern U.S. with a ridge into central
Canada. The upper-level low will then gradually drift off to the
east through Monday. Meanwhile, a second upper-level low will move
southward across Quebec towards the base of long wave trough. At the
surface, high pressure centered near Hudson Bay extends
southeastward into the Great Lakes and even toward our area Sunday
into Monday. As a piece of energy slides southward into the main
closed low, a cold front will settle across our area Monday night.
In terms of sensible weather, the presence of weak surface high
pressure will keep conditions mainly dry. Highs Sunday will be
mainly in the low to mid 70 except 60s over the southern Poconos and
along the coast where winds will turn more onshore by Sunday
afternoon. Little change expected for Sunday night with lows in the
40s to low 50s and light winds. Monday will be a bit warmer though
with highs mostly between 75-80 degrees. The low-level winds however
will turn more southerly, keeping it cooler near the immediate
coast. A cold front then arrives Monday night and while moisture is
limited, a few isolated showers cannot be ruled out therefore
maintained some slight chance (20 percent) PoPs for mainly the
northern areas.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Summary...High temperatures favoring at or a little below average,
and there are some low chances for some mainly diurnally driven
showers/thunder.
Synoptic Overview...A closed low is forecast to dominate our weather
pattern through most if not all of this time frame. A surface cold
front will continue to settle south and east of our area into
Tuesday. Our sensible weather will be driven by the positioning of
the closed low and stronger shortwaves rotating around it. This set
up should keep temperatures near to a bit below average for this
time of year.
For Tuesday and Wednesday...A closed low centered near northern New
England will maintain a large upper-level trough across much of the
East. This will also maintain surface low pressure near northern New
England to the Nova Scotia regions. Tuesday will start with a cold
front already to our south and east as a spoke of stronger shortwave
energy rotates around the southern flank of the closed low. Surface
high pressure centered near Hudson Bay will start to build southward
some through Wednesday, however we will remain under large scale
cyclonic flow and a cooler regime. A few showers or thunder will be
possible primarily during peak heating both days given the influence
of the closed low and shortwave energy rotating around it. There is
the potential for somewhat more coverage of showers/thunder
Wednesday afternoon as a stronger shortwave is forecast to arrive
from the northwest. PoPs are therefore highest Wednesday afternoon,
with the greatest chances the farther north and west one goes.
Cooling is forecast to take place Wednesday given more of an
influence of the stronger shortwave and western extension of the
closed low.
For Thursday and Friday...The pattern holds with the closed low
centered in the vicinity of northern New England, however this may
start to shift eastward later Friday as an upstream shortwave trough
approaches the upper Great Lakes region. A surface trough may rotate
across our area Thursday, potentially focusing a few showers or a
thunderstorm. There should then be less influence of the closed low
during Friday and therefore kept the forecast dry, and this will
result in at least some warming occurring.

.AVIATION /19Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Today...MVFR ceilings developing through the remainder of the
morning at most terminals, which should last through around 18Z
before scattering our or lifting to VFR. ACY has experienced
LIFR/IFR ceilings but has since lifted to MVFR. VFR should
persist after ceilings lift. Northeast winds increasing to
around 10-15 kts with gusts 20-25 kts. Moderate confidence
overall, but lower confidence on the timing of MVFR lifting to
VFR.
Tonight...Mainly VFR with skies clearing. North to northeast winds 5-
10 kts. High confidence.
Outlook...
Sunday...VFR. Northerly winds around 10 knots, becoming easterly in
the afternoon for MIV and ACY. Moderate confidence.
Monday...VFR. West-northwest winds around 10 knots, becoming
southerly in the afternoon at ACY. Moderate confidence.
Tuesday and Wednesday...Mainly VFR, however some showers/thunder
will be possible especially each afternoon and early evening which
could bring locally brief restrictions. Northwest winds around 10
knots. Low confidence on coverage of showers/thunder.

.MARINE...
A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for all coastal waters.
The Advisory ends at 2 AM for Delaware Bay, but will continue
through Saturday for the Atlantic coastal waters for elevated
seas.
Winds will shift to the northeast around 10-15 kts toward daybreak.
Seas 1-3 feet with a wind driven easterly swell. Some isolated
showers are possible through daybreak. Northeast winds and seas will
build through today. Sustained winds should peak early this evening
around 20-30 kts. A few gusts up to 35 kts are possible south of
Atlantic City. Seas will build to around 6-9 feet, then gradually
diminish into the overnight.
Outlook...
Sunday...Small Craft Advisory conditions, mainly due to elevated
seas, persist for our ocean zones. Seas however gradually subside by
late day.
Monday...Seas to 5 feet may linger for a time across parts of the
Atlantic coastal waters, otherwise the conditions are anticipated to
be below Small Craft Advisory criteria.
Tuesday and Wednesday...The conditions are anticipated to be below
Small Craft Advisory criteria.
Rip currents...
Through this evening...There is a HIGH risk for the development of
dangerous rip currents for the New Jersey and Delaware beaches.
Northeast winds increase to 20-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
Breaking waves will build to 3-5 feet in the surf zone with a
medium period east/northeast swell. This will result in dangerous
rip current development becoming more likely, especially this
afternoon, and thus the upgrade to a high risk.
Sunday...There is a MODERATE risk for the development of dangerous
rip currents for the New Jersey and Delaware beaches. Northeast
winds are expected to diminish and also turn easterly. Wave
heights offshore will subside, with breaking waves in the surf
zone also settling down some. An east/northeast swell however
is forecast to have a longer period. Given lowering winds and
waves, conditions should improve some during the course of the
day and therefore held off on a high risk.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
A gusty northeast wind develops today from north to south in
the wake of a strong cold front. The onshore flow in combination
with the high astronomical tides associated with the full moon
today is expected to result in minor coastal flooding along the
New Jersey and Delaware coasts, the tidal Delaware River, and
the Delaware Bay with tonight's high tide. The exception is
across southern New Jersey and the Atlantic Coast of Delaware
where tides are expected to increase to moderate flood stage.
Latest guidance from STOFS, ETSS, and the median surge from
Stevens all point to Lewes reaching well into moderate flood
stage while Cape May Harbor and Great Egg Harbor are more
marginal. Thus a Coastal Flood Warning is no in effect for Cape
May NJ and Sussex DE, with a Coastal Flood Advisory issue for
all other DE and NJ tidal zones.
With the surge of water pushing towards the coast, guidance
suggests the potential for minor coastal flooding is possible
during the Sunday night and perhaps Monday night's high tide as
well, though confidence is lower on this occurrence.
Coastal flooding is not expected along our portion of Maryland's
Eastern Shore.
