.SYNOPSIS...
A dry Sunday is in store as a weak clipper system passes to our
north on Sunday with associated weak cold front passing by Sunday
night. A stronger area of low pressure moves through our region late
Monday bringing a period of widespread precipitation. Weak high
pressure arrives for Wednesday, then low pressure tracks to our
north Thursday with its cold front crossing our area bringing
potential for light rain to the area. Weak high pressure then builds
toward our area Thursday night, then another system may impact the
region on Friday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
01:00AM: Updated temperatures, dewpoints and sky conditions across
northern areas where skies have cleared out early this morning. Have
dropped temperatures a few degrees essentially from Philadelphia
northward due to clear skies and calm winds allowing
radiational cooling in these areas. As weak warm air advection
approaches from the south and anticipated increase in clouds,
expecting low temps this morning to reach their minimums shortly
and if not rise slightly toward daybreak. Otherwise, the rest
of the forecast remains on track.

Low pressure passes well north of the area on Sunday, and with
surface high pressure in place locally, a tight west to
southwest gradient will develop over the area, and winds will
increasing to 10-20mph during the afternoon. Warm air advection
continues, and highs will warm into the lower 50s.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Sunday night will remain quiet and cold as the axis of weak high
pressure shifts overhead. Light northwest flow will prevail with
some sheltered locations becoming calm. Overnight lows will be near
average with mid 20s to low 30s across much of the coastal plain and
low 20s for our higher elevations.

High pressure will slide offshore after daybreak Monday as a rather
dynamic low tracks north and east from the central US towards the
Great Lakes. As the main parent low at the surface weakens across
the Great Lakes Monday night, the main upper level trough will dig
and become negatively tilted, firing off a new surface low off the
Delmarva. Proceeding through Tuesday morning, the coastal low will
jettison eastward away from the parent low moving north and east
towards Canada, eventually allowing us to dry out by late Tuesday
afternoon or early evening.

The resultant forecast will be a complex mixed bag of wintry precip
for areas north and west of I-78 with mainly rain south and east. A
zone of stronger ascent will overspread our area later Monday
afternoon and especially Monday night as the main upper-level
trough arrives. This should include an area of frontogenetic
forcing. As a result, rain will overspread the area during
Monday afternoon and night. North of about I-78 but especially
the I-80 corridor, a period of snow or mixed precipitation is
anticipated. The model forecast soundings show plenty of dry air
initially and this should result in some wet bulbing, therefore
any rain or sleet changes to snow around the I-80 corridor
early on. Down to about I- 78, some snow or sleet may occur for
a time Monday late afternoon and into the early evening, however
enough warming aloft should result in mostly rain overnight.
The greatest chance for a period of accumulating snow and sleet
is along the I-80 corridor and points north. As of now, amounts
look to be in the advisory range (2-5 inches) with ice accretion
amounts around one tenth of an inch or less. A zone of warming
aloft however should result in the snow mixing with and changing
to sleet and freezing rain at times. The extent to which this
occurs will determine how much snow accumulates. The
precipitation should start tapering off from southwest to
northeast overnight Monday night as the main forcing for ascent
shifts north and east of our region.

Temperatures Monday and Monday night could be tricky. Cloud coverage
expected Monday will inhibit much radiational heating before precip
arrives in the afternoon, which many locations are expected to see
wet bulbing occur thanks to the dry air in place. Because of this,
limited afternoon high temps (prior to precip arriving) to the low
to mid 40s for most with low 30s at higher elevations with falling
temperatures once precip begins. Overnight, the cooling effects from
loss of daytime heating and precip-cooled air may be offset by low-
level warm air advection, especially across the coastal plain. This
may result in temperatures holding steady or even rising especially
across the coastal plain, while areas near and north of I-78
struggle to recover much after the initial drop with the
precipitation onset.

Precip tapers off during the day Tuesday as our storm systems depart
the region and high pressure builds in from the west. Afternoon
temperatures may rebound nicely for southern locations that see
clouds break and sunshine return with highs in the mid to upper
50s while areas north that see clouds linger will be limited to
the upper 30s to mid 40s.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Summary...Mild overall. Drying out Tuesday into Wednesday, then the
next system arrives Thursday however there is uncertainty with its
evolution.

Synoptic Overview...Some ridging slides over our region Wednesday
after a weak trough departs Tuesday night. This will put surface
high pressure over our area to start Wednesday before it shifts
eastward. An upper-level trough from the Plains to the Midwest will
gradually shift eastward Wednesday night into Thursday. Surface low
pressure tracks along a baroclinic zone which runs up across the
Great Lakes into Thursday. The timing and amplification of this
trough is much less certain and therefore so are the details. Some
guidance is stronger and also faster with this system, while some
others hang back southern energy longer. Another more potent trough
will be ejecting eastward from the Southwest late Thursday through
Friday. Guidance remains inconclusive on how this system will
evolve, which will have large implications on the forecast locally
for Friday. As of now, high pressure should build to our north
Thursday night, but there is potential for a strong system to move
from the southern Plains toward the East Coast on Friday.

For Wednesday...As an active flow pattern continues, quick
transitioning of weather system looks to occur. Surface high
pressure over the area to start Wednesday is forecast to quickly
shift offshore during the day. As this occurs, an upper-level trough
across the Plains will start to shift eastward and support surface
low pressure. This will propel a developing warm front northward and
with increasing southerly flow between this system and the offshore
high, warm air advection will increase. The daytime should remain
dry however clouds will be on the increase. Some precipitation,
mainly in the form of rain, should start to develop Wednesday night
as increasing ascent overspreads the area. This timing carries some
uncertainty with it though as it will depend on how quickly the
trough and surface low to our west shifts eastward. Temperatures
during the day are forecast to get into the low to mid 50s for much
of the area, with even around 60 possible across parts of Delmarva.
Given the southerly flow and increasing warm air advection,
temperatures at night will be on the milder side with most places
falling back only into the low to mid 40s.

For Thursday and Friday...Low pressure is forecast to be tracking
into the eastern Great Lakes Thursday with a cold front arriving
into our area. Much of our area should be in the warm sector,
however its northern extent may be halted some as the parent storm
may be undergoing an occlusion. Thursday has the potential to be
rather mild for much of the area if we get deeper into the warm
sector. The evolution of this system is less certain, as some
guidance is stronger with trailing southern energy and that could
bring in a stronger storm in from the southwest during Friday. Given
the uncertainty, kept the forecast very close to the National Blend
of Models (NBM). The timing of this system will have an impact on
temperatures, however as of now the temperatures look to be well
above average Thursday followed but at least some cooling on
Friday.

.AVIATION /06Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Tonight...Winds will trend west-northwest 5 kt or less, then just
light and variable in most areas. Not expecting much if any in the
way of VSBY restrictions, with just a low cloud deck around 1000-
2000 feet for the most part, extending just south of PHL to RDG and
ACY on southward. That is expected to try to lift northward
overnight through Sunday morning, but there is some doubt as to that
happening, and the arrival time at specific sites if it does occur.

Sunday (12Z through 00Z)...Conditions improve to VFR around 15Z, if
they haven't already, as the MVFR low cloud deck scatters or lifts
out. SW winds increase to 5 to 10 kt in the morning, then to around
12 kt with gusts up to 20 kt in the afternoon. Moderate
confidence.

Outlook...

Sunday night...VFR conditions expected. West to WNW winds around
5-10 kts becoming Northwesterly overnight and diminish to around
5 kts. High confidence.

Monday and Monday night...VFR to start off Monday morning.
Then, MVFR/IFR conditions develop Monday afternoon and much of
Monday night with a period of rain. Some snow or a wintry mix
possible for a time near KRDG and KABE into Monday evening. The
conditions then start to improve during the overnight hours. ENE
winds 5-10 knots becoming ESE 10-15 knots with gusts up to 20
knots Monday afternoon and into Monday evening. Winds then turn
ENE around 10 knots overnight. Low confidence with the details.

Tuesday and Tuesday night...Gradual improvement during the day
Tuesday with VFR conditions returning. Clouds break south to
north during the afternoon. Northerly winds around 10 kts in the
morning turns west to WNW in the afternoon, turning prevailing
northwesterly overnight. Moderate confidence.

Wednesday...VFR. East-northeast winds 5-10 kts becoming southeast.
Moderate confidence.

Wednesday night through Thursday...Sub-VFR conditions possibly
developing along with some light rain. Southerly winds Wednesday
night 5-10 kts will shift to the northwest and increase to 10-15 kts
on Thursday. Low confidence on restrictions.

.MARINE...
Winds for the most part have become W-NW at about 5kts and are still
expected to become light and variable before daybreak. Throughout
the morning hours winds will become W-SW at 10 to 15 kt with gusts
up to 20 kt Sunday afternoon. Seas will build to 2 to 4 feet. A few
gusts to 25 kt are possible along northern NJ ocean waters late, but
at this point, do not think those gusts will be frequent enough nor
widespread enough to warrant a Small Craft Advisory.

Outlook...

Sunday night...West winds 15-20 kts turn NNW overnight, but
should remain just below Small Craft Advisory criteria.

Monday and Monday night...Small Craft Advisory conditions
develop in the late afternoon and will be likely Monday night
with low-end gale force winds possible. Confidence remains too
low for a Gale Watch at this time.

Tuesday and Tuesday night...A period of Small Craft Advisory
conditions probable in the morning, gradually improving through
the afternoon, possibly dropping below criteria by Tuesday
night.

Wednesday...The conditions should mostly be below Small Craft
