.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure centered across Canada will continue across our
area through Friday. Low pressure will move up the Ohio Valley
then across the Middle Atlantic region later Friday and Friday
night. As the low moves offshore Saturday, more high pressure
arrives for the end of the weekend. Another low will approach
for the start of next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
As of 915PM...Quiet across the region. Not much to watch or
discuss weather wise. Some low to mid level clouds currently
over the NJ coastal plain.
Northwest flow will continue thru Thursday as low pressure
slowly moves further out to sea and high pressure remains
centered to the northwest. Upper level ridge and trough will
also mostly remain in the same place thru Thursday before the
ridge axis finally pushes overhead Thursday night. This means
that conditions will generally stay breezy and a bit on the cool
side, but the mostly dry northwesterly flow will keep us
precipitation free. Pressure gradient will relax a bit tonight
and Thursday, though gusts will still be in the 20 mph range
thru Thursday.
Temperatures will be near to slightly below normal tonight,
with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s. Highs in the upper 40s
to lower 50s anticipated for Thursday. High pressure finally
drifts overhead Thursday night, allowing winds to finally
diminish, but clouds building overhead ahead of the next system
likely limit radiational cooling, keeping temps from dropping
much compared to what we are expecting for tonight.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH 6 PM FRIDAY/...
Poor weather for the end of the work week and for the beginning
of the weekend. Low pressure at the sfc and aloft move through
later Fri and move offshore Sat morning. The pops ramp up to
categorical by Fri night for the region then decrease from West
to East Sat. The southern Poconos and northern NJ may remain
cold enough for all snow with the event. Further south for Berks
county, the Lehigh Valley and North/Central NJ will have snow
then it will probably change to rain, all rain (or little snow)
for the Delaware valley S/E. Accumulations of snow in the
north/west more areas in the 2 to 4 inch range are possible. Our
snow totals with this update are not much different than the
previous fcst. The possibility of a WSW (advisory) in future
fcsts is not out of the question. Highs Fri will range from the
low 40s N/W to the upper 40s (maybe 50) for Delmarva and SE NJ.
Highs Sat will be 3 to 4 degrees cooler than Fri.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
High pressure will be across the area for the start of the long
term. Fair weather is expected both Sat night and into Sunday.
Clouds will be increasing over the area Sunday however. Cool
temperatures will continue with sub-freezing lows Sat night
(mostly 20s with teens in the NW-most areas). On Sunday, high
will remain a little below normal with maxs in the mid/upper 40s
for most areas.
Sunday night and into the start of next week will feature
another low pressure system approaching the Middle Atlantic
region. The low will not be that strong as it nears the area,
but it will strengthen as it moves through (just south of our
area) and then rapidly deepen once offshore. Most operational
models have not yet settled on a specific track, so while some
precip is expected (likely pops in for Monday), we still will
wait on more p-type and specific timing questions. The most
likely scenario at this point would be some snow N/W then
changing to rain with all rain elsewhere. Lows mostly in 30s
with highs in the mid/upper 40s.
Much in the same way as this week, once the deep low moves by,
colder and dry air from Canada gets dragged down across our
region. The period Tue/Wed will probably be mostly dry with
below normal temperatures.

decline overnight as high pressure builds across the region.

There will be an increasing threat for tidal flooding Saturday
for areas along the Atlantic coast of NJ and DE. This will be
due to a storm system moving off the coast Friday night into
Saturday with strong NE winds eventually backing to more
northerly late Saturday. At this point we have several sites
along the Atlantic coast forecast to reach minor flooding stage.
However it should be noted, there is a fair amount of
uncertainty in this forecast since it's several days out and the
amount of flooding will depend on both the strength of the
system and the timing of the wind shifts. Astronomically, the
higher of the two tides Saturday occurs in the evening but by
this time the winds may be backing to a more northerly to
northwesterly direction.
