.SYNOPSIS...
An unsettled weather pattern will persist through Saturday. Low pressure
will move along the East Coast through today before departing Thursday.
Another low will slowly work its way across the region Friday through
Saturday. High pressure returns for the latter half of the weekend
into early next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 9:50AM...Adjusted temperatures/dewpoints for the next few
hours. Otherwise, no major changes to the forecast at this
time. Light drizzle/rain persists as does some fog in areas.
Previous discussion remains below...

Expect another unseasonably mild, overcast and
rather gloomy day across the northern mid-Atlantic today. Fog
will be a concern early this morning. Have a special weather
statement across south/central NJ to cover visibility of 1/4 to
1/2 mile; visibility has been better elsewhere. Light rain will
gradually expand east and northeastward across our region,
though the bulk of the steadiest and heaviest rain will hold off
until tonight.

Currently weakening surface high pressure is drifting farther
offshore, giving way to low pressure approaching from the west and
south. While a weak trough extends northward across the eastern Ohio
Valley, we will focus more on a coastal low near South Carolina.
That will track north-northeastward to east of the NJ coast by
Thursday morning. The latest model runs have been trending slightly
farther offshore with the track of that low, and that is critical
for where the focus of heavier rainfall sets up tonight.

Weak warm air advection, onshore and upslope flow into the
Appalachians along with low-level convergence has been focusing the
rain just west of our region, but that has begun to shift across
eastern Pennsylvania and into the Delmarva this morning.
An upper-level ridge axis shifting east off the coast is giving way
to diffluent flow aloft and shortwaves spinning out ahead of a
sprawling upper-level low over the Midwest. A stronger shortwave
lifting out to the northeast later today into tonight will
strengthen the coastal low and bring it northward, with a mid-level
low center trying to close off as well. A southerly low-level jet
ahead of the low will drive stronger isentropic lift and heavier
rain, initially setting up over eastern Pennsylvania early this
evening, but that will pivot over New Jersey as the coastal low
wraps up tonight. The axis of better low-level convergence and
frontogenesis north and northwest of the low center has been shifting
to the southeast to the coastal plain to the southeast of I-95
in recent model runs, and the 06Z NAM even shifts it mainly offshore.

Compared to previous forecasts, we subsequently have shifted the
heavier rain amounts to I-95 southeastward, with around 1.5 inches.
Areas farther northwest may be closer to an inch. It would not be
surprising to see a narrow axis of 2 inches or more, but given the
uncertainty and the potential for that to end up offshore, have not
put that anywhere in the forecast. The bulk of this rain will fall
from around 6 PM to 4 AM; earliest across eastern PA and the Delmarva,
later across northern and eastern NJ. While hourly rates should not
exceed a half-inch in most cases, would not rule out some brief/local
urban and small-stream flooding. We considered a Flood Watch, but
given the axis of heavier rain may be southeast of the most water-
logged and flood-prone areas, we held off for now. Winds with this
system will be relatively light, with just some gusts to 25 mph or
so along the coast around this evening.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
Rather unsettled conditions for the end of the week as the large
upper low continues across the upper Ohio and Tennessee Valley areas.
The low starts of fill Fri and eventually will dissolve into a trough
and get pushed off the East coast for the long term.  Before that,
scattered showers are expected both Thu and Fri with better chances
for Fri as the front preceding the upper low moves thru. We have
high chance/low likely pops for Fri. It will remain mild thru the
period with temperatures around 10 to 12 degrees above normal
(Thu) and 6 to 10 degrees on the plus side for Fri. Fog may continue
near shore areas with the cool sea waters promoting fog formations
at times.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The upper low/trough move offshore for the weekend as another low
begins to form across the Great Lakes. Overall, Sat. will feature
drier weather after some morning showers pass to the east. The dry
weather continues Sunday and into next week. We will keep the small
chance of showers (slight) in for Monday as some upper short waves
cross the region and there may be enough moisture to touch off a few
showers. Temperatures will remain mild for the weekend but then
trend back to near normal for next week. Temperatures seem to be
trending milder with guidance from a few days ago indicating
that it was going to be a rather cold weekend.

.AVIATION /15Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas...

Today...LIFR/IFR in the morning at most sites, especially with
respect to CIGs. Fog with VSBY less than 1/2 mile has been found
across south/central NJ; that may impact ACY. Would not rule out
MVFR or even brief IFR VSBY early at the other sites. Ceilings
should lift a little today, with mainly IFR this afternoon, along
with light rain. Confidence generally low. Easterly winds around 5
kt.

Tonight...IFR conditions will probably settle to LIFR quickly this
evening as rain becomes steadier and heavy at times, especially 00Z
to 06Z or so. Some periods of VSBY less than 1 SM will be possible
in heavier rain. Winds E to NE 5-10 kt; some gusts over 20 kt
possible at ACY. Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Thu thru Fri night... Lower CIGS/VSBYs in rains and fog at
    times.

Sat... Improving conditions after morning showers. VFR by
    afternoon.

Sat night/Sunday... Mostly VFR.

.MARINE...
May let go of the Marine Dense Fog Advisory for Delaware Bay early,
but elsewhere there is enough observational evidence of visibility
below 1 SM over the ocean to continue it this morning. Some
visibility even near or below 1/4 mile is probable off the Ocean and
Monmouth County coast.

Otherwise, expect light rain today becoming heavier this evening and
tonight. ENE winds around 10 kt early will veer to SE later today,
increasing to 15-18 kt this evening as a coastal low pressure system
approaches and passes offshore tonight. Gusts may near 25 kt and
seas may approach 5 ft for our southern coastal zones off Delaware
to Cape May this evening, but think conditions will not quite meet
advisory criteria. Winds ease toward Thursday morning.

.Outlook...
SCA conditions are expected on the waters for Thu/Thu night but just
for marginal 4 to 5 ft seas. sub-SCA conditions for Fri and into the
weekend. Showers are expected much of Thu/Fri and then dry conditions
for Sat/Sun. Marine fog possible Thu/Fri.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
With the full moon occurring today, and an increasing onshore flow,
there will be potential for tidal flooding through the end of this
week. Today's morning/afternoon high tide will be the first one
to watch, however the Thursday and/or Friday morning/afternoon
high tide may be impacted as well due to increasing fresh water
runoff from excessive rainfall. Guidance is not very bullish with
any widespread minor flooding, and given the fairly weak onshore
flow and weak surface low passing by, we may escape with just localized
minor tidal flooding. The primary areas to watch will be the back
bays and tidal Delaware River, however locally minor tidal flooding
is possible along the entire Atlantic coast, Delaware bay, and tidal
Delaware River.

Flooding of moderate level is unlikely. No tidal flooding is forecast
for the eastern shore of Maryland.
