The surface ridge axis will push to the east today with southerly
winds developing, but this will still be a recirculation of the
cold airmass. As with the last few days, some of the models
(especially the GFS) are still struggling with this cold airmass
and warm things way too quickly. And with some of these outlier
models pushing things too warm, the National Blend of Models is
likely too warm again and will undercut the NBM forecast. As with
yesterday, we may still be too warm with our forecast, but it
should at least be closer to reality.

Some light rain showers and drizzle with a little bit of
isentropic lift above the frontal surface. Enough elevated
instability develops that there could be a little thunder and
lightning this afternoon in the south, but is not expected to be
widespread nor severe. Low shower chances spread north overnight.

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday through Friday)

We will likely have the same issue tomorrow with temperatures with
some models modifying this airmass too quickly, especially
considering the widespread cloudiness will likely persist. So we
will undercut the NBM forecast for Sunday's highs as well.
But instability will still be increasing ahead of the storm
system, even if the temperatures remain on the cool side of the
guidance range. This last front did not push into the Gulf, so
dewpoints in the upper 60s and lower 70s are lurking in south
Texas and we will not have to wait on modification of the airmass
over the Gulf. But the NAM and some of the high- resolution models
maintain a little hint of the surface ridge across central Texas
delaying the fetch of good moisture advection until Sunday
afternoon. The GFS/ ECMWF and Canadian all bring upper 50s
dewpoints into our north Texas counties by 18Z, while the NAM
delays this degree of dewpoint return until closer to sunset.

Regardless, enough moisture and instability develops east of the
Pacific front to develop storms in the eastern panhandles or
western Oklahoma late Sunday afternoon and support the potential
of severe thunderstorms. The instability and strong wind shear
will support severe thunderstorms through the evening and into
early Monday morning. Storms look to become widespread quickly,
although supercellular storms will be possible in the early
evening in the west, especially if the moisture return is more in
line with the GFS. But even as the storms eventually evolve into
a squall line, we will have to pay attention to the potential of
QLCS tornadoes given the strong low-level shear. The primary
threat with these storms will be strong winds though, especially
with such low-level ambient winds expected. The storms race
through and will exit the area early Monday morning.

After this system moves through, we have the opposite problem with
NBM forecast temperatures as the warm bias that the models have
been struggling with is no longer an issue since the current cold
air mass will not be here any more. The bias-correction aspect of
the NBM now keeps forecast temperatures from climbing as high as
they should and our forecast will be warmer than the NBM forecast.
Some showers will be possible southeast Wednesday and Thursday,
then more widespread precipitation is expected overnight Thursday
night as the next strong mid-level system is forecast to move over
the area.

MVFR ceilings will continue across northern Texas as well as most
of Oklahoma except for potions of far northern Oklahoma. Winds
will gradually increase through the overnight hours and into
Sunday, and remain out of the south. With increased moisture
moving into the region, ceilings will decrease to IFR levels
across the region Sunday morning, with lower visibilities
beginning to develop.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight...

.Thunderstorms...
Isolated thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon across
north Texas and southern Oklahoma, but no severe thunderstorms are
expected as instability will be low.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday...

.Thunderstorms...
There is a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms Sunday evening
across portions of western, southwestern, central, and northern
Oklahoma, mainly north and west of I-44, southeast of Woodward,
and west of Yukon and I-35. An enhanced risk of severe
thunderstorms extends into portions of far western north Texas and
through the remainder of northern, central, and southwestern
Oklahoma. A slight risk of severe thunderstorms extends through
the remainder of western north Texas and southern/southeastern
Oklahoma.

The most likely time for severe thunderstorms will be between 5 PM
Sunday afternoon and 3 AM Monday morning. Storms will be capable
of producing wind gusts of 60 to 75 mph, hail to the size of golf
balls and isolated tornadoes.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will begin to
develop on Sunday afternoon across Oklahoma and north Texas. An
isolated strong storm will be possible, but severe weather is not
expected with these initial storms through mid-afternoon Sunday.

Additional thunderstorms are expected to develop in the eastern
Texas panhandle or western Oklahoma very late Sunday afternoon or
early Sunday evening. The atmosphere will be more unstable in this
area, and scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to develop.
Some of these thunderstorms could become supercell thunderstorms
early Sunday evening, especially in the enhanced risk area. Any
supercell that forms would be capable of wind, hail and the
potential of a tornado. Through the evening, the storms will
develop into a line of storms that will move east through Oklahoma
and north Texas overnight. With this line of storms, the primary
threat will become damaging winds, although hail and a tornado or
two would still remain possible. The storms will move east out of
the area near or before sunrise Monday morning.

.Fire weather...
Fire weather conditions will be elevated across western Oklahoma
and western north Texas each afternoon from Monday through
Thursday. Near-critical conditions will be possible on Tuesday
afternoon in the far west.
