Key Messages:

	- A strong storm system will begin to impact the area on Thursday
   and continue into Friday. Severe storms, accumulating snow,
   and strong wind gusts are all potential threats during this
   time.

	- Rebounding temperatures and quiet conditions
    expected for the weekend.

Wednesday...

Light snow skirted along the Nebraska/South Dakota border overnight,
as temperatures dipped into the 20s behind a southward moving cold
front. A slightly cooler air mass over the region will keep
afternoon highs limited to the 30s and 40s today.

Thursday...

Strong warm air advection sets up over the region Wednesday night,
ahead of an approaching low pressure system. Temperatures are
expected to reach the mid 60s to low 70s Thursday, with increasingly
gusty south winds. By Thursday afternoon, speeds could reach 30-40
mph at times.

In addition to the gusty winds, a few strong to severe thunderstorms
will be possible Thursday evening as well.  Elevated instability
steep midlevel lapse rates, and strong shear could lead to a threat
for large hail in storms developing over northeast Nebraska ahead of
the incoming surface low. Additional showers and a few thunderstorm
will also be possible farther southeast over the forecast area, in
the region of warm advection, Thursday night into Friday morning.

Friday...

Colder air will wrap into the Missouri Valley Friday as the surface
low moves through. Expect rain will transition to snow over
northeast Nebraska Friday, and spread southeast with the colder air.
The timing and extent of the cold is still questionable at this
time, but will ultimately be the deciding factor of how far south
the snow gets, as well as amounts.

Gusty northwest winds will complicate the matter within a tight
pressure gradient on the backside of the low.  Current model
estimates indicate gusts in excess of 50 mph possible Friday
afternoon. With winds this strong, it wouldn't take much snow to
make travel hazardous.

Saturday and Beyond...

Milder Spring weather makes a comeback for the weekend. Temperatures
will warm into the 60s to low 70s by Sunday, with quiet weather
expected early next week.

Issued at 1229 PM CDT Wed Mar 29 2023

VFR conditions are in place across the area with northeasterly to
easterly winds accompanied by a few gusts 20 kts so far this
morning. Winds will diminish slightly and stay easterly into the
overnight hours, with low-level wind shear creeping into the area
with wind speeds over 37 kts developing at FL005 to FL015 after
10z at KOFK and KLNK. Also around that time, winds will begin
shifting to the southeast and increasing in speed through the
morning. Some patchy MVFR ceilings are expected at KOFK late
tomorrow morning as well. Just beyond the forecast period, very
strong winds out of the south will develop ahead of a stronger
weather system where winds to 40 kts will be possible.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday

There is a chance for thunderstorm Thursday night into to the
overnight hours. A few storms may be severe with large hail the
main threat. Severe storms are possible once again Friday morning
into the afternoon, along with light snow accumulations across
northeast Nebraska that evening. Quite gusty northwesterly winds
of 40 to 50 MPH will be possible on Friday as well.
