.SYNOPSIS...Breezy winds and light to moderate rain will impact the
region through early Sunday afternoon with lingering rain showers
thereafter. More widespread rain and periods of stronger winds
expected late Monday night through Wednesday. Cooler temperatures
are also expected through the week.

.DISCUSSION...as of 08:13 AM PDT Sunday...Scattered showers
continuing for the rest of the day with additional rain amounts
up to a quarter of an inch in the interior valleys and close to
the SF Bay Coast, and up to half an inch in the higher
elevations. Rainfall totals so far have been generally half an
inch to just under one inch from San Francisco and Oakland
northward through the North Bay; a quarter to half an inch in the
interior East Bay, around Monterey Bay, and the Santa Cruz and
Santa Lucia mountains; and less than a quarter of an inch in the
Santa Clara and Salinas Valleys. With some of the marine winds
overperforming the forecast today, have issued gale warnings
across the southern waters. Otherwise no changes to the forecast

.PREV DISCUSSION...as of 03:00 AM PDT Sunday...Today through Monday:
Light to occasionally moderate rain continues to spread inland
over the Bay Area and Central Coast early this morning. Rainfall
rates of a few hundredths of an inch to about 0.15" per hour are
being reported at this hour. Additionally, southerly winds have
increased with wind gusts of 30-40 mph near the coast and in the
ridges with isolated gusts greater than 50 mph. Breezy and gusty
winds and rain will continue through mid-to-late morning as the
frontal boundary pushes inland. Ponding of water on roadways,
minor urban flooding in poorly drained areas, and rises on
creeks/streams are expected. However, widespread flooding concerns
are not anticipated with this system. With soils saturated, the
risk for downed trees and isolated power outages will continue
through the morning.

Wind and rain will diminish in strength and coverage this afternoon
in wake of the frontal passage. Post frontal rain showers are then
expected to linger into late this evening before drying conditions
return overnight and into Monday. Meanwhile, daytime temperatures
will only warm into the mid/upper 50s to lower 60s both this
afternoon and again on Monday.

Late Monday through Wednesday: After a brief respite, forecast
confidence remains high with regards to unsettled weather conditions
returning late Monday night into Tuesday morning. This will occur as
an atmospheric river takes aim on southern California. While the
deepest moisture advection will be to the south, the Central Coast
will be on the northern extent as a mid/upper level low approaches
the coast. This will bring more widespread rainfall and another
round of gusty winds to the region. Lingering rain showers will then
continue into early Wednesday morning as the low pressure system
pushes inland over central California. With the current track of
this system, rainfall will be greatest along the coastal ranges from
the Santa Cruz Mountains southward through the Santa Lucia Range
with 1.00-3.00" expected. Lower elevations of the Central Coast can
expect 0.50-1.25" with the potential for slightly lower totals in
the rain shadowed valleys. For the rest of the Bay Area, 0.25-1.00"
is expected from Monday night into Wednesday morning. As mentioned,
gusty winds are also anticipated with this system, yet confidence is
lower with regards to the details as the strength of the winds will
be determined by the final track of the system and associated
surface low. Stay tuned...

Beyond Wednesday: Precipitation will diminish late Wednesday into
Thursday as the system exits and weak short-wave riding moves
overhead. With sky conditions partially clearing, look for
overnight/morning temperatures to drop into the upper 30s across the
interior with low-to-mid 40s elsewhere. Cool, unsettled conditions
then look to persist through late month as a series of troughs
impact the region.

.AVIATION...as of 11:40 AM PDT Sunday...For the 18z TAFs. Moderate
to high confidence that MVFR prevails through tonight. Scattered
light showers persist through the day. While main rain band has
moved out of the area, reduced visbys and misty conditions persist
as well through the afternoon. Frontal boundary will soon pass
through the Bay Area as well, bringing an increase in southerly
(SSE/SSW) winds as front approaches with gusts up to 30 knots,
especially through the Santa Clara Valley. During FROPA, winds
shift SW and after passage will shift westerly and speeds will
diminish, but remain breezy. Shower activity continues to diminish
as well into the evening. Mix of VFR to localized IFR expected
overnight into Monday morning.

Vicinity of KSFO...MVFR to moments of IFR continue through the
afternoon. Lingering light rain expected through the afternoon as
well. Southerly winds will increase along the front in the next
hour or two with gusts over 25 kts possible. Winds shift SW by 20z
and will continue veering westerly after FROPA. Winds will
diminish later this afternoon but remain breezy with winds around
15 knots. VFR conditions return early Monday morning.

KSFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO.

Monterey Bay Terminals...Scattered showers through the TAF period,
albeit with shower coverage diminishing through the day. MVFR
ceilings expected through the day with breezy southerly winds with
gusts up to 25 knots. Winds shifting to the west this evening and
diminishing to 10 knots or lower. Overnight, expect lifting of
ceilings to potentially VFR ceilings and winds shifting further to
the northwest.&&

.MARINE...as of 08:13 AM PDT Sunday...Frontal boundary continues
to approach the coastal waters, resulting in gusty southerly
winds, especially south of Pigeon Point where gale force gusts are
possible through the afternoon today. Winds to shift
northwesterly after frontal passage this afternoon. Scattered
showers persist through the day today, and a new system arrives
late Monday and lasts into the mid week with widespread rain and
stronger winds expected. Mixed northwest and southwest swells with
moderate periods persist. Larger wind waves expected later next
week.
