Isolated to scattered rain showers and a slight chance for
thunderstorms will persist through the day. A more steady band of
rain with push across the region by Friday afternoon/evening. Rain
showers will linger into the first part of Saturday before
clearing by Sunday. Temperatures warm to above seasonal averages
Monday and beyond.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms occurred across the
region this afternoon and evening. Rain amounts over the past 6
hours were mostly 0.10" or less, however an isolated thunderstorm
did drop localized amounts of 0.2"-0.4" across western portions of
the San Francisco Peninsula. Instability over land areas is waning
this evening so expect the greatest convective focus to remain
offshore overnight. However can't rule out some rogue showers
moving inland at times, particularly towards morning. The more
focused push of showers and isolated storms then looks to take
place during the afternoon and evening hours on Friday.

Isolated to scattered rain showers with a slight chance of
thunderstorms is expected from this afternoon and into the
evening. Instability will increase enough to warrant a mention for
convection by this afternoon. By tonight, mostly dry conditions
are expected.
Friday afternoon/evening is when a better defined band of
precipitation sweeps inland resulting in light to moderate
rainfall. Again, chances for thunderstorm exist on Friday which
will linger into Friday night. As such, locally heavier rainfall
will be possible with any thunderstorm or more convective cells
that develop. As mention in previous discussions, the threat for
flooding remains extremely low.

Post frontal rain showers will continue into Saturday morning
before diminishing throughout the day. Additional rainfall is
expected to range from 1.00"-2.00" in the coastal ranges,
generally 0.50"-1.00" in the City, North Bay and wetter pockets of
the region, and less than 0.50" elsewhere.
By Sunday and beyond, drier conditions are likely to persist.
Monday a subtle warming trend will occur as high pressure builds
aloft. Colder overnight temperatures are also expected next week.

VFR conditions are expected through the night with a few isolated
showers. Rain returns in earnest around mid-day Friday. There is
a chance for stronger showers or isolated thunderstorms Friday
afternoon into evening. Persistent rain may bring ceilings down to
the MVFR range through the afternoon. Guidance is hinting at a
break in the precipitation around 18/03Z before returning
overnight Friday into Saturday morning.
Vicinity of SFO...Some excitement this evening with a a period of
VCTS, while a stronger shower briefly passed over the terminal.
While the weather has since cleared, there is a similar looking
band approaching Half Moon Bay at the moment, and another round of
VCSH is expected from 06Z to 08Z, with an outside chance of these
showers organizing enough to generate some lightning. OAK looks
to be too far east to be impacted by this system in the short
term. Otherwise, more persistent light rain is expected to return
to SFO by 17/20Z with a break in the evening. The timing is still
relatively uncertain, but it's pretty clear that Friday will be
the wettest day of the week at SFO. The potential exists for
thunderstorms at both SFO and OAK Friday afternoon. All this rain
will likely lower the ceilings into the MVFR range, and the TAF
predicts this will happen at 18/03Z for SFO.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...MRY and SNS look to be dry for the
remainder of the night. Rain is expected to return around 18Z and
last off-and-on for about 9 hours at both terminals. The TAF
continues to lean on the high side of guidance for winds at SNS as
the rain will help bring down momentum from higher in the
atmosphere. Since the wind direction lines up with the valley and
the terminal is at the low end, this is the perfect set up for
strong drainage flow. The high resolution models have increased a
bit over the last 6 hours, but haven't quite caught up to the TAF
forecast of 12020G30KT at SNS, which is holding steady for now.
Despite being on the high end of guidance, the wind speed could
still exceed this forecast. MRY will remain mostly sheltered from
these winds, but gusty conditions are possible during any heavier
showers.

On and off chance for thunderstorms persists into Saturday across
the coastal waters. Occasional gale force gusts are possible near
thunderstorms should they develop, but not expecting long
lasting, widespread gale force conditions. However, fresh to
locally strong southerly breezes will develop Friday into
Saturday. Low pressure will dissipate as it moves inland Saturday
and rain chances will diminish by Sunday. In addition,
southwesterly swell builds Friday night into Saturday and a new
northwest swell train arrives Sunday.
