Mostly LIFR to IFR ceilings have developed across the area with
some lowered visibilities due to fog have developed mainly west
of I-65. IFR ceilings will prevail area wide throughout the day;
however, visbys should improve shortly after sunrise. Some low
level wind shear around 35 knots at 2 kFt will relax this morning
as winds become northwesterly around 10 knots. Scattered to
numerous showers will continue through the afternoon with minimal
impact to visibilities. Skies will eventually clear overnight

Good news as everyone wakes up this morning is that for
the most part any marginal severe threat overnight appears to be
over. The better low level moisture attempted to make it onshore;
however, the rich marine air never did keeping the strongest of the
storms across our marine waters. A brief lull will likely occur this
morning in the wake of the earlier storms. Within this lull, low
level moisture appears to be just enough and winds relax to allow
for patchy fog to develop behind the surface low. Fog will likely
not be dense but enough to be noticeable through mid-morning.
This lull is in response to weak shortwave ridging between the two
main shortwave troughs moving across the area. By mid-morning, the
second shortwave will move in and help spark off light to moderate
rain across most of the area before eventually pushing the cold
front through this afternoon and early evening. Once the front is
through and the upper trough lifts off to the northeast, things will
dry out briefly and remain cool and dry on Monday. Some lingering
clouds will remain present but that will be about it on Monday.
Expect highs in the 50s mainly north and west of I-65 and mid to
upper 60s south and east of I-65 especially along the coast today
before dropping into the 50s on Monday. Lows tomorrow night will
range from the upper 30s inland to mid 40s along the coast. A HIGH
risk of rip currents will likely materialize Sunday as large swell
begins to move onshore. BB/03
SHORT TERM...

Surface high pressure slides east Monday night as an upper trough
approaches from the west. The upper shortwave over the
southwestern states will eject into the southern plains on Tuesday
and become negatively tilted as it moves northeast. An associated
sfc low will move from northern Louisiana Tuesday night to
western Tennessee by Wednesday morning. This will send a trailing
cold front eastward across the central Gulf coast Tuesday evening
through early Wednesday morning. Favorable jet dynamics will be
present over the area with a low level jet of 60 to 70 knots
developing over the area Tuesday evening into Tuesday night. This
will help advect moisture and instability back into the region.
While the kinematics will be favorable for severe thunderstorms,
it remains uncertain just how unstable the airmass will become and
how far north the unstable airmass can move. This will play a
large role in the storm mode and evolution and we will continue to
monitor. SPC has the area outlooked in a slight risk for severe
storms.
In addition to the potential for severe weather, there will likely
be a period of strong gradient winds across the region. The latest
blended model guidance suggests wind gusts exceeding 40 mph,
especially along the coast and over our marine waters Tuesday
afternoon and Tuesday night. A wind advisory will likely be needed
for portions of the area. Rip currents, high surf and coastal
flooding will also be possible.
A cold front moves through the area Wednesday morning with high
pressure building into the area behind the front. /13

A northwest flow aloft will maintain a cool and dry airmass over
the area through Friday as surface high pressure builds over the
area. Upper level flow will turn southwest on Saturday as the
next system approaches from the west. /13

Strong westerly winds will become a strong northwesterly
wind tonight as a cold front moves through the region. A strong
southerly flow with building seas is likely Tuesday into Tuesday
night ahead of a potent storm system approaching from the west.
Small craft products will be necessary by mid week and Gales will
also need to be considered for sometime on Tuesday and Wednesday.
