The last in a series of the more prevalent shortwave impulses
embedded within the southwest flow aloft will traverse southeast
Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama overnight. The ongoing widespread
coverage of rain showers and a few embedded thunderstorms along and
north of Interstate 10, will remain through the early evening hours
before slowly tapering off from southwest to northeast as drier mid-
level air advects into the region. As mentioned in previously
discussions, the abundant moisture in combination with large scale
ascent will favor potential for heavy rainfall through the remainder
of the afternoon into early evening where an additional 1 to 2
inches of rain is likely to occur. We will continue to advertise a
limited threat of flooding in our local graphics and messaging,
mainly highlighting potential for flooding of urban/low lying areas
and localized flash flooding with heavy rainfall that occurs. Heavy
rainfall may result in or exacerbate ongoing river flooding.
A narrow warm sector along southern portions of the area late this
afternoon and evening with MLCAPE values up to around 500-1000 J/KG
across the Florida Panhandle, should favor a low-end damaging wind
threat. A moist west-southwest flow aloft will otherwise persist
late tonight through Monday with potential for periodic isolated to
scattered showers and a few weak thunderstorms.
Conditions will also be favorable for patchy to areas of dense fog
development tonight into Monday morning, especially near the coast.
Therefore, a Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for the central and
southern portions of Mobile/Baldwin counties and southern Escambia
FL county from midnight until 10 AM Monday. In addition, a HIGH risk
of rip currents is expected tonight, Monday, and Monday night. /22
SHORT TERM...
(Monday night through Wednesday night)

A mainly west-southwest flow aloft will prevail across the
forecast area through the short term period, with upper level
ridging generally remaining across the Gulf of Mexico before
beginning to slowly break down near the end of the period with
the approach of a southern stream shortwave off to our west. Weak
embedded shortwave energy rounding the periphery of the ridge
during the period will help keep high clouds overhead and also
help keep some slight chance PoPs Tuesday into Wednesday,
particularly along a stalled boundary that looks to linger across
the Gulf coast during this period. The main concern during this
period is the potential for dense fog development, especially
Monday night into Tuesday with the best chance continuing to
remain closer to the coast where any sea fog development can move
inland.
As far as temperatures are concerned, given we do not get a true
cold frontal passage across the area through the period, warm and
muggy weather for this time of year will continue. Temps will also
be dependent on where the stalled boundary sets up as well, which it
currently looks to remain generally along the I-65 corridor based on
current guidance. With this in mind, north of the stalled front, can
expect highs to generally remain in the low to upper 60s, with upper
60s to low/mid 70s south. As for low temps through the period,
expect lows each night to generally range in the low to mid 50s
northwest of I-65 (some upper 40s possible over the far northwest
corner of the CWA), with upper 50s to low 60s southeast. JEH/88

(Thursday through Sunday)

Overall, not much change from the previous forecast package in
the long term. On Thursday, the aforementioned shortwave trough
continues to track east, moving into the lower MS river valley
through the day on Thursday, and then quickly ejecting east of the
area moving into the weekend. An accompanying surface low will
likely develop somewhere along the central Gulf coast on Thursday
and lift off to the northeast, and dependent on where this occurs
will determine where the warm sector sets up. With this in mind,
and the potential for adequate CAPE and shear to be in place on
Thursday, the potential for organized severe weather with the
passage of this system is there. However, with continued
uncertainty currently remaining in the exact timing, location,
and intensity of this system, it is still to early to go into
specific details on the exact magnitude and spatial/temporal
coverage of the threat. Regardless, the potential that some form
of severe weather and heavy rainfall Thursday into Thursday night
remains. We need to keep a close eye on trends moving forward.
As for temps through the period, warm advection ahead of the
system will help keep highs in the low/mid 70s for most areas on
Thursday (maybe even some upper 70s southeast of the I-65
corridor). In the wake of the system, high pressure builds in, and
we return to a cooler, more seasonable weather for this time of
year. Expect highs through the weekend to generally be in the
upper 50s to low 60s, with lows dropping back into the 30s/40s by

Areas of dense sea fog will continue to impact Mobile Bay, the
Mississippi Sound, Perdido Bay, and adjacent Coastal Waters as
warm/moist advection spreads northward, and a Dense Fog Advisory
remains in effect for these area through noon Monday. If you must
navigate, proceed with caution. Use proper fog signals. Make sure
all running lights are on. Remember to use your radar and compass.
The pattern will remain favorable for fog development through the
early to middle part of the week, so the advisory may need to be
extended in time or expanded to include additional nearshore
zones. We will continue to monitor trends closely. /22
