Today and Tonight:
A low pressure moving east through Ontario has swung a NE to SW
oriented cold front into the region, and showers and thunderstorms
have recently fired along it. Mesoanalysis shows 1000 j/kg of
MUCAPE riding an LLJ and fueling the line of storms along the
front, which will provide a short burst of much needed rain as it
sweeps eastward through the region early this morning, but should
remain sub severe in intensity. The front and the storms along it
should sweep clear of the area by around 9am local time.
Behind the front, winds shift northwesterly and ramp up to speeds
around 20 mph this afternoon, with gusts up to 30 mph for areas
east of Madison. Smoke from Canadian wildfires should return to
our area on these winds. Winds subside and daytime cumulus clear
out Thursday night as a high pressure system around 1017mb builds
into the region from the southwest.
In addition to the wildfire smoke, there is a threat of increased
ozone this weekend, so the DNR has issued an Air Quality Alert
from Thu morning through Monday morning for all of WI.

Friday through Wednesday:
Dry and quiet weather is expected under the dome of high pressure
set to cross the region from west to east on Friday. Slow winds
and sunny skies on Friday should allow the cool airmass to
moderate and warm up to the mid / upper 70s for a daytime high,
then southerly flow with further sunshine will take inland areas
up to the mid 80s on Saturday, perhaps upper 80s for areas west of
Madison. As the southerly flow continues, humidities and
temperatures build higher on Sunday, with daytime highs
approaching 90 degrees inland, and coastal areas a few degrees
cooler due to an easterly wind off the lake.

A broken line of thunderstorms currently spanning from Madison to
Sheboygan will continue to move eastward early this morning,
impacting UES and MKE on its way through. Storms cannot be ruled
out at JVL or ENW, so we will monitor closely. The cold front and
associated thunderstorms should sweep clear of our region (passing
ENW last) by around 9am local time.
Behind the storms, wind directions will shift to the northwest and
ramp up to sustained speeds of around 17 kts by this afternoon,
and scattered daytime cumulus around 3000ft should develop. Gusts
of up to 27 kts are possible for all airports except MSN and
further west, where gusts max out at 25kts. Winds and gusts will
settle down rapidly Thursday night as a high pressure system
builds into the region.

Low pressure of 29.2 inches over Ontario will continue east this
morning. A surface cold front associated with this low will
continue sweeping from northwest to southeast across the lake,
reaching the southern edge late this morning. Showers and
thunderstorms are likely along the cold front as it moves across
the lake.
Winds will shift to the northwest behind the front and gradually
diminish. Winds will remain elevated around 20-25kt on Thursday
before decreasing Thursday night as high pressure of 30.0 inches
builds into the Great Lakes region.

At 513 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near North Prairie to 6 miles southeast of
Durand. Movement was east at 55 mph.
HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and penny size hail.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
possible.
