  - At 1:00 PM CST Wednesday the stage was 4.7 feet.
  - Bankfull stage is 4.5 feet.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage
    just after midnight tonight to a crest of 5.1 feet tomorrow
    morning. It will then fall below flood stage early Friday
    morning.

cars through flooded areas.

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Fox River Lower near New Munster.

* WHEN...Until early Tuesday morning.

* IMPACTS...At 11.8 feet, Floodwaters surround a home at the 
  intersection of Highway 50 and Highway W in the Town of Wheatland 
  area. Water is about 8 inches deep over 77th Street in the Town of 
  Wheatland area. Water is in the back yards of some homes in the 
  Village of Salem Lakes area. This level is the 50 percent chance 
  flood meaning there is a 50 percent chance in any given year of 
  the river reaching this level.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 3:00 AM CST Friday the stage was 11.8 feet.
  - Bankfull stage is 10.0 feet.
  - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours

Low clouds have moved into southern WI this morning, but they will
move out as soon as a weak front associated with an upper wave
kicks through from west to east through early afternoon. Once
south to southwest winds increase, clouds will rise and decrease.
There is an area of higher reflectivity on radar which is light
snow or sprinkles that will clip portions of south central WI
like Wisconsin Dells and Montello over the next two hours. A brief
reduction in visibility and a dusting on surfaces is expected
with this band.

The 12z models are rolling in and there are still large
discrepancies between the solutions. It comes down to a phasing of
the upper wave or not phasing.

.SHORT TERM...

Today through Thursday:

An area of rain and snow continues to dissipate and exit across
southeast Wisconsin this morning in response to ongoing warm air
advection. As this area of lift gradually wanes and the axis of
better moisture transport moves east of the area, this area of
precipitation will continue to diminish this morning. There are
some very light returns showing up across southwest Wisconsin,
which may end up being some drizzle at times through the morning
hours. However, soundings aren't overly excitable for drizzle
chances for opted to leave it out for now. The back edge of this
stratus is moving across north-central Iowa this morning, thus
clearing should sneak into at least far southern Wisconsin later
this afternoon and pivot eastward this evening. Temperatures today
will warm into the 40s, perhaps into the lower 50s across
southern Wisconsin where better chances for clearing will take
place this afternoon.

Later this evening and into the overnight hours, the compact
surface low currently moving east across South Dakota will weaken
and move east across Wisconsin. As this low moves to our north,
we may get clipped with some light rain or snow up across central
Wisconsin. Cold air advection works into the area as this low
passes through the region tonight into Thursday, ushering in
colder air and breezy north winds. These breezy winds will relax
throughout the day on Thursday and become northeasterly as high
pressure moves east over the Upper Great Lakes. With this pocket
of colder air aloft overhead on Thursday, expect high temperatures
on Thursday to warm mainly into the 30s.

Thursday night through Tuesday:

For the extended forecast attention turns to Friday for a low
pressure system to track through the Great Lakes Region bringing
a chance for snow. Unfortunately there is a bimodal distribution
between the GEFS and ECMWF members that all rely on the track of
the low. Frontogenesis, warm air advection, positive vorticity
advection, and moisture associated with the low may bring
accumulating snow to southeast Wisconsin or accumulating snow may
remain just southeast of the area. A slight shift in the low track
will make a significant difference in who sees snow and who does
not, it will also determine the strength of the northeasterly
winds over the area as well. As a result in the different
solutions accumulations vary over a large range. Definitely a
situation to keep up to date with the forecast.

Good news is Saturday is looking dry, maybe will even see some
sunshine with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. A push of
positive vorticity advection, warm air advection, and an 850mb low
level jet will bring us another chance for precipitation Saturday
night into Monday. Precipitation looks to be a wintry mix with the
rain/snow line over the area. Further into next week we could see
a period of dry conditions with an upper level ridge overhead, but
colder temperatures will also be possible as seen in the ensemble
members.

Ceilings are a mix of LIFR, IFR AND MVFR this morning. A brief
period of light snow or sprinkles will track across portions of
south central WI between now and 1 PM, likely remaining just
north of KMSN. A brief reduction in visibility and a dusting of
snow would be possible. Look for clearing skies at least south of
I-94 for a time this afternoon as south to southwest winds kick
in.

A surface low moves through this evening, this will bring winds
around to the west and northwest and eventually the north
overnight. Winds will increase in speed on the backside of this
surface low this evening and through tonight. Some light
precipitation is possible at KSBM as this low moves through
tonight.

(Issued 335 AM CST Wed Mar 1 2023)

A weakening surface low will track east across Lake Michigan
tonight. Ahead of this low, winds become east-southeast today and
then west-northwest to northerly as the low exits over Lake
Michigan tonight. Winds behind the surface low will increase to
around 20 to 30 knots. Some of these gustier winds may work into
the nearshore waters, thus we will need to keep an eye out small
craft conditions tonight. Waves of 4 to 5 feet then build into the
nearshore waters on Thursday as north to northeast winds persist,
thus small craft conditions look more favorable due to waves on
Thursday.

Northeast gales look possible Friday into Friday night, but there
remains a lot of uncertainty in the track of this next surface low
and thus how strong these northeast winds will get. We may need a
Gale Watch for the southern half or third of the lake as we get
closer. Winds will gradually wane and become west to northwest
this weekend at around 10 to 20 knots. Early next week, another
low passing through the region may allow for an uptick in easterly
winds.
