.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure continues to build over the Eastern Seaboard as
Hurricane Lee tracks north far offshore. Swell from Hurricane
Lee will begin to relax but continue to cause rough Marine
conditions well into the weekend. Autumn- like weather is
expected through Saturday with an unsettled start to the new
week as the next cold front approaches.

&&

.NEAR TERM /TONIGHT/...
As of 7 PM Friday...No significant changes to the forecast on
this update as high pressure continues build into the Carolinas,
while hurricane Lee continues to pull further away. This will
allow winds to ease overnight and allow ongoing diurnal cumulus
to dissipate as the evening wears on, resulting in clear skies
and light winds for much of ENC tonight.

Prev Disc...Surface high pressure with ridging aloft
continues to build in across eastern North Carolina this afternoon.
Northerly winds and cool temperatures will continue this afternoon
with winds beginning to relax after sunset. This will bring great
conditions for radiational cooling overnight with temperatures
expected to plunge into the lower 50s inland with upper 50s to near
60 degrees along the coast.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY/...
As of 7 PM Friday...Another fantastic day in store with high
pressure still in control and sunny skies prevailing. Winds will
be lighter with generally 5- 10 kts expected out of the
northwest to begin the day but then backing around to include a
more southerly component later in the day. Highs will top out in
the low to mid 80s.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 330 PM Fri...High pressure will remain over the area through
late this weekend. A quick moving cold front will then move through
the area late Sunday and into Monday and will bring chances for
showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be severe.
Thereafter, high pressure builds in from the northeast with mostly
dry and seasonable conditions expected through Wednesday. To end the
work week, the possibility exists for some showers to coastal areas
Oregon Inlet south.

Saturday night through Monday...Late Saturday and into Sunday high
pressure will recenter to the south, and allow for moderating
conditions Sunday, with increasing temperatures and humidity. A
quick moving cold front will push through the area Sunday night,
with showers and thunderstorms expected to break out ahead of it.
Severe potential has increased with recent guidance showing an
uptick in moisture, shear, and a strengthening upper trough over
Eastern NC. Damaging wind appears to be the main threat as the
storms move through in a linear fashion. Precip coverage has also
increased, with higher end amounts of 2-3 inches possible mainly
along and east of Hwy 17.

The front will push offshore Monday morning, but expect some
lingering showers to continue along the coast and Outer Banks, while
drier conditions develop inland with high pressure building in from
the northwest. Expect temps to be near normal.

Tuesday through Friday...With the front expected to coast through
Eastern NC and not stall, we have lessened PoPs Tuesday into
Wednesday, but increased PoPs Thursday into Friday coastally south
of Oregon Inlet due to the possibility of a coastal trough setting
up, in addition to a coastal low to our south. Temperatures should
remain around normal with highs in the low 80s and lows in the
60s.

.AVIATION /00Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
SHORT TERM /through Saturday/...
As of 7 PM Friday.. No real changes to the forecast as VFR
conditions are expected through the TAF period once again with
high pressure overhead and a strong subsidence inversion aloft
across ENC. 5-10 kt N'rly winds this evening will ease
overnight, becoming light and variable within the next few hours
across much of ENC outside of the OBX where some gustier winds
may linger. Winds then increase slightly Sat morning to 5-10 kts
becoming NW'rly. Winds slowly back through the day to a W and
then S'rly direction Sat evening remaining around 5-10 kts.

LONG TERM /Saturday night through Tuesday/...
As of 430 AM Fri...Mostly VFR conditions are expected through
the weekend as cooler high pressure builds in. Sub- VFR
conditions may develop Sunday evening through Monday morning as
a cold front and associated showers and thunderstorms move
through the region.

.MARINE...
SHORT TERM /Through Saturday/...
As of 7 PM Friday... Biggest change as of this update was the
small craft advisories finally ending across all the inland
sounds as winds continue to ease from west to east. Ongoing
small craft advisories remain in place along our coastal waters.

Prev Disc...Small craft advisories now span the coastal waters.
Expect SCAs to continue well into Sunday for the coastal waters
based on wave heights. Current conditions show winds in these
areas still gusting 25-30 kts at times. Seas are currently in
the 8- 12 foot range for most offshore locations with waves
dropping considerably in the sounds. Gradual decreases in seas
will continue over the next couple of days but expect small
craft advisories to be out until Sunday based on wave heights.

With the presence of large breaking waves, strong longshore
currents, and life threatening rip currents, it is advised to remain
out of the water.

LONG TERM /Saturday night through Wednesday/...
As of 430 AM Fri...Improving marine conditions will slowly
develop, however large and hazardous seas will continue for most
of the weekend.

Winds will be NW 10-15 Saturday and then turn to the SW 10-15
kts Saturday night. Southerly winds will increase Sunday ahead
of a cold front to 10-20 kts, and could briefly increase to 25
kts right ahead of the front Sunday night. Behind the front
Monday morning winds will turn to the NW at 10-15 kts, and then
eventually become northerly at 10-15 Tuesday.

Large seas in the range of 6-10 ft will continue Saturday, with
seas subsiding overnight to be 4-6 ft Sunday. By Monday seas
will drop to 3-5 ft and continue at this range through Tuesday.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 330 PM Fri...Long period swell from Hurricane Lee will
continue to impact area beaches through the weekend. The swell has
likely peaked today, and will slowly subside over the next couple of
days as the primary swell direction trends more easterly, then
northeasterly. This evening's high tide continues to be the highest
forecast, reaching minor flood stage along the beaches of the Outer
Banks, with the wave runup from the long period swell likely
overwashing vulnerable dunes, likely bringing impacts along portions
of NC 12, especially on the eastern-facing stretches of Hatteras
Island. Saturday morning's high tide will bring lower water levels,
but at least minor ocean overwash remains possible for much of the
Outer Banks.

The powerful swell will continue to bring dangerous surf zone
conditions through the weekend as well, especially north of Cape
Hatteras as the swell direction shifts more northeast.
