  and businesses. Some road closures and flooding of vehicles will
  be possible. Inundation of portions of Hwy 12 around high tide
  is likely. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and 
  localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best 
  swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Dangerous shore 
  break can throw a swimmer or surfer head first into the bottom 
  causing neck and back injuries.

Area Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
Hurricane Idalia is forecast to make landfall in the Big Bend of
Florida this morning, then slowly weaken to a tropical storm as
it tracks up the SE coast tonight, moving off the NC coast
Thursday. Idalia will bring the potential for several
significant impacts, including: heavy rain, gusty winds, storm
surge, tornadoes and dangerous marine conditions. High pressure
will build in from the west late week into the weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
As of 3 AM Wed...Latest analysis shows Hurricane Idalia about
175 miles S of Tallahassee, FL and Hurricane Franklin about 230
miles west of Bermuda. Idalia is forecast to make landfall in
the Big Bend of Florida this morning as a major hurricane, then
push across GA this afternoon. Antecedent moisture will advect
into the area with showers and isolated thunderstorms increasing
in coverage through the day from south to north. Rainfall is
expected to mainly be light to moderate during the day with QPF
around 0.5" or less, but could see locally higher amounts. Highs
in the 80s.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 715 Tuesday...Unsettled weather persists through the
workweek with the stalled front over or near the the area into
midweek. Tropical system Idalia will potentially impact the area
late in the week as it crosses the Southeast.

Idalia has been upgraded to a Hurricane and very little has
changed in regards to the overall forecast for this system.
Continued strengthening is expected and rapid intensification
to a Major Hurricane is forecast as it tracks across the Eern
Gulf before it makes landfall somewhere in the Big Bend region
of Florida Wed AM. Idalia will move NEward through SECONUS
overnight WED and emerge over the Wern Atlantic near the
Carolinas and continue an arcing NE- Eward motion through the
end of the week. Locally, impacts are possible mid to late
week, but are very track dependent. Heavy rainfall may lead to
localized flooding concerns, particularly over Sern coastal
zones, strong wind, storm surge, and tornado impacts are
possible, with the forecast being further refined in the coming
days. Once Idalia makes landfall in Florida and begins
interacting with the front still draped over SECONUS, the
heaviest rainfall will shift N of the storm center which puts
the greatest rainfall amounts over our Sern coast starting Wed
afternoon lasting into the end of the week as the storm center
continues to arc to the E, making its closest approach to the
area Thursday. For now, take the opportunity to complete your
hurricane season preparations and closely monitor subsequent
forecasts from the National Hurricane Center and updates to
possible threats and impacts at weather.gov/mhx/tropical.

When Idalia does approach the FA, it is not expected to be
purely tropical, and will be heavily influenced by the front and
upper level trough/jet. As the storm begins its departure to the
E, the circulation will pull the front through the area and strong
NEerly winds will spill over the area in the wake of the storm
and the front. These winds, while not explicitly part of Idalia,
could be near or approaching tropical storm force themselves,
and could lead to damaging wind concerns as well as beach
erosion and ocean overwash issues for the NOBX and soundside
flooding concerns along the Sern Pamlico Sound and Neuse River.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 0715 Tuesday...Not your typical post tropical cyclone
environment with the breezy NEerly winds ushering in a dry and
relatively cooler airmass leading to clearing skies and highs in
the low 80s and overnight lows in the low 60s.

Sunday into Next Week...High pressure overhead, dry PoPs and
warming trend through the period. Highs upper 80s SUN, back to
the low 90s MON on.

.AVIATION /06Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
SHORT TERM /through tonight/...
As of 3 AM Wed...Current conditions ranging from VFR to IFR
across the terminals early this morning with patchy fog and low
stratus. Fog and low stratus may impact all terminals through
13z this morning, highest confidence at PGV/ISO/OAJ, with best
potential for IFR. VFR returns by 14z, but ceilings will
gradually lower through the day as TC Idalia grad approaches
from the southwest and rainbands begin to overspread the area
through the afternoon and into tonight. MVFR conditions expected
to develop this afternoon, with widespread IFR likely
developing this evening and continuing overnight with widespread
heavy rain.

LONG TERM /Thursday through Sunday/...
As of 3 AM Wed...TC Idalia will continue to impact the
terminals Thursday into Thursday night with with low CIGs, heavy
rains, and strong winds. FlightOp conditions improve this
weekend in the wake of Idalia.

in the Big Bend of Florida this morning, then slowly weaken to
a tropical storm as it tracks up the SE coast tonight, moving
off the NC coast Thursday. Light SW/WSW winds early this
morning, becoming SW and increasing to around 10-15 kt this
afternoon. Hurricane Franklin will continue to lift well
offshore today as long period swells continue to impact the
waters, slowly subsiding through the day. Seas currently 4-7 ft
will slowly subside to 4-6 ft by late morning and afternoon.
Winds will back overnight, becoming NE- SE 10-20 kt as TC Idalia
lifts into the SE US. Tropical Storm Watches continue for the
waters, sounds and rivers.

LONG TERM /Thursday through Sunday/...
As of 3 AM Wed..Idalia is forecast to move through SECONUS
reaching the Wern Atlantic near the Carolinas continuing its
arcing NE- Eward track out to sea. Idalia cuts through Sern ENC
waters Thursday with the storm center currently forecast to be
~40-50mi due S of Cape Lookout THU afternoon. Tropical storm
force winds and seas rapidly building will create hazardous
marine conditions. Tropical Storm Watches continue for the
coastal waters, sounds and rivers.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 3 AM Wed...Long period swell from distant Hurricane
Franklin will slowly subside today, though high rip current risk
and rough surf will continue for the beaches. Additionally,
minor beach erosion can be expected, with some localized ocean
overwash still possible along the Outer Banks through this
mornings high tide (around 7 AM).

Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Watches remain in effect for
portions of the area as TC Idalia impacts the region tonight
through late week. Significant water level rises expected for
portions of the area (2-4 ft above ground level). Surge and
coastal flood issues will likely continue through late week,
possibly into the weekend for the Outer Banks, as strong NE
winds and backswell will continue behind Idalia. This may result
in more significant ocean overwash for the Outer Banks into the
weekend.
