Low pressure will move slowly out to sea today, while high
pressure then builds in through early to mid week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM MONDAY MORNING/...
As of 830 PM Sunday...Little changes needed for the evening
update. Conditions will gradually improve overnight into Monday
as the low continues to pull away from the area.
Previous discussion...Offshore low continues Eward trek out to
sea with the departing trough axis aloft ushering in a vast area
of cool high pressure over Eern CONUS. Winds will remain gusty
through the rest of the afternoon and into the evening in the
tightened pressure gradient between the departing low and high
pressure building into the FA. Gusts fall out after sunset.
Slightly cooler night on tap with skies remaining clear and CAA
persisting in a light NEerly breeze at the SFC. These light
winds will keep the low levels mixed, which will preclude any
frost development despite the low temps. Overnight lows in the
upper 30s away from the water, low to mid 40s coastal areas.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM MONDAY MORNING THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/...
As of 1600 Sunday...High pressure at the SFC remains entrenched
over Eern CONUS, centered over Wern NC/TN. Shortwave trough is
expected to dive out of the central plains leading to Nerly flow
aloft and downsloping flow in the midlevels over the FA,
keeping any cloud coverage limited to offshore. NEerly winds
continue at the SFC 10-15G20kt through the day. Sunny skies will
allow temps to warm into the low to mid 60s, warmest SWern
zones, upper 50s OBX.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 1600 Sun...High pressure will influence the weather into
Friday with dry conditions, diminishing winds and initially
below normal temps early week moderating mid and late week. Low
pressure is forecast to approach eastern NC Fri into next
weekend. Some patchy frost is possible Tue morning for some
areas away from the coast.
Monday night through Tuesday...Shortwave trough cuts off over
the northwestern Gulf of Mexico and sits over the Gulf States
for much of the week while ridging builds over the Carolinas. At
the surface, high pressure will keep the frontal boundary
pinned along the Gulf Coast and keep the Carolinas dry. A dry
air mass in place along with clear/calm conditions will bring a
threat for patchy light frost Mon night with some interior
locales dipping into the mid 30s.
Wednesday through Friday...Mid to late week will feature
warming conditions as highs soar into the 70s, and possibly
around 80 Thu and Fri, after a seasonably cool morning in the
40s. .Later in the week, a threat for showers will be in play,
esp Friday night into the weekend. Though as is typical with
cut-off low regimes, forecast confidence is lower than average,
so no higher than 30-40% pops this far out in time.

SHORT TERM /Through Sunday/...
As of 1315 Sunday...VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF
period under clear skies. Gustiness of winds have diminished as
daytime mixing wanes but expect NE wind gusts to around 20 kt at
the TAF sites during the day Monday. Although, gusty winds to
around 20-30 kt will continue overnight and Monday along the
coast.
LONG TERM /Monday through Thursday/...
As of 315 AM Sun...VFR conditions are expected through the
period as drier high pressure builds into the region.

SHORT TERM /Through Tonight/...
As of 830 PM Sunday...Winds continue to slowly diminish as the
low pulls away. Have replaced the Gales for the Neuse/Bay Rivers
with a SCA with the evening update. Other zones will follow
overnight into Monday morning.
Previous discussion...Continued tight pressure gradient will
create solid Gale force winds for most. Seas will peak late this
afternoon into early tonight in the 10-16 ft range, with some
up to 18 ft possible ctrl waters near Diamond Shoals. The
protected areas south of Cape Lookout will remain mostly 5-10
ft. Winds begin to abate tonight from N to S with gales being
replaced with SCA conditions as winds will be in the 20-30 kt
range for most after midnight. Gales persists longest over outer
Sern waters near the Gulfstream into Monday morning.
LONG TERM /Monday through Thursday/...
As of 315 AM Sun...High pressure will be over the waters
through late week. This will result in gradually improving
conditions beginning Mon night as the strong winds Mon /NE 20-30
kt/ diminish below 25 kt allowing seas to begin to subside.
Winds on Tue will be light /10 kt or less/ but it will take
until Tue night before elevated seas finally subside below 6 ft.
Wed and Thu the flow is forecast to be W to SW 10-15 kt with
seas 3-5 ft Wed subsiding to 2-4 ft Thu.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 1630 Sunday...Strong and persistent NE winds and high
water levels have led to minor flooding. Up to 1 to 2 feet of
inundation is expected in areas adjacent to the Pamlico Sound
and Neuse River in Downeast Carteret, southern Craven, and
Pamlico counties owing to rises on the Neuse and Bay Rivers. We
are past the peak of highest water levels and are on the
downswing. A Coastal Flood Advisory is now in effect for these
areas. Additionally, elevated tide levels could bring minor
coastal flooding impacts to tidal waterways along the coast west
of the Beaufort Inlet through this evening.
The strong northeast winds will also drive dangerous high surf,
leading to possible overwash and dune erosion, especially for
beaches from Oregon Inlet south to Cape Lookout. The most
impactful conditions are expected today and tonight, with the
building swell and elevated water levels leading to the
potential for minor to locally moderate overwash impacts,
especially around this evenings high tide. Outer Banks residents
and visitors should continue to monitor forecast updates as
significant impacts to transportation from this prolonged
wind/swell event remain possible into Monday.
