SUNDAY EVENING...
* WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, 1 to 2 feet of inundation
above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal
waterways. For the Beach Hazards Statement, dangerous rip
currents, large breaking waves expected across the waters north
of Cape Lookout to Ocracoke Inlet and north of Hatteras Island,
and strong longshore currents in the surf zone.
* WHERE...East Carteret County, and Northern Outer Banks and
Hatteras Island.
* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until 2 AM EDT Monday.
For the Beach Hazards Statement, from 7 AM EDT Sunday through
Sunday evening.
*IMPACTS...Up to 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level is
possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways
resulting in a low threat of property damage. Some roads and low
lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes
adjacent to the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
High tide is between 7 and 9 PM tonight. Rip currents can sweep
even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
Dangerous shore break can throw a swimmer or surfer head first
into the bottom causing neck and back injuries. Strong longshore
currents will create dangerous swimming conditions.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time for strong rip
currents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide,
which will occur around 1:54PM Sunday.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be
closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of
unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone
property.
Life-threatening rip currents. If caught in a rip current, remain
calm. Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If tired,
float or tread water until out of the rip current. If unable to
escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
Shore break occurs when waves break directly on the beach. It is
extremely important to protect your head and neck whenever you
are in breaking waves by keeping your hands in front of you at
all times.
Strong longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip
currents, piers, jetties and other hazardous areas. In many
cases, the longshore current is strong enough to prevent swimmers
from being able to keep their feet on the bottom making it
difficult to return to shore.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated
road closures expected. High tide is in between 8 and 10 PM
tonight. Strong longshore currents will create dangerous
swimming conditions.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be
closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of
unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone
property.
Strong longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip
currents, piers, jetties and other hazardous areas. In many
cases, the longshore current is strong enough to prevent swimmers
from being able to keep their feet on the bottom making it
difficult to return to shore.

Newport and White Oak Rivers, and adjacent tidal creeks.
* WHEN...Until 2 AM EDT Monday.
* IMPACTS...1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level is
possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways
resulting in a low threat of property damage. Some roads and low
lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes
adjacent to the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
High tide is in between 8 and 10 PM tonight.

.SYNOPSIS...
A backdoor front will move through the area tonight, with high
pressure building in from the north Sunday into early next
week. A cold front moves through mid-week, followed by the
return of high pressure late next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SUNDAY MORNING/...
As of 615 PM Sat...Latest analysis shows shortwave and backdoor
front moving through the Mid-Atlantic and into NC. The backdoor
front will continue to sink southward and move through the area
tonight, followed by high pressure building in from the north.
The persistent sea fog along the northern coast this afternoon,
appears to be dissipating early this evening on area surf cams
as stronger flow behind the cold front develops. Moisture looks
limited overnight, but is deep enough to support an isolated
mainly coastal shower threat overnight as the front moves
through. Precipitation amounts should be light, if any at all.
More noticeable will be the changing airmass. A cooler than
normal, but somewhat modified, airmass will work south along the
Mid-Atlantic/Carolinas, leading to cooler temps tonight (upper
50s inland, 60s along the coast). A tightening pressure gradient
along and behind the front will lead to a modest uptick in
winds tonight, which should keep temps from falling as low as
they otherwise could. Widespread low clouds will move in/develop
by late evening and continue through Sunday morning.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH 6 PM SUNDAY/...
As of 3 PM Sat...Reinforcing high pressure builds in Sun, with
cooler and drier air overspreading the area with persistent NE
winds. Highs in the mid/upper 60s for the NE sections and
low/mid 70s to the south and west, with more comfortable
dewpoints in the 50s. NE wind gusts around 15-25 mph continuing.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
UPDATE...As of 410 PM Sat...Only chg was to lower temps a
degree or two Sun night, and lower pops for Tue. Ideal
radiational cooling as an anomalously cool and dry air mass sets
up overhead Sun night, and with clr skies and calm winds
expected, efficient cooling will occur. Guidance typically too
warm in these regimes, so went with coolest guidance and trimmed
a degree or so blending with NBM 25th%. Upper 40s should be
widespread in favored cool spots. Air mass is trending drier and
warmer for Tue, and with WSW flow, went with climo and capped
pops at just slgt chc. Most guidance trending drier, so later
shifts may be able to nix pops altogether. Threat of thunder is
nill with TD's only in the 50s, so have removed any thunder
threat.
As of 430 AM Sat...The high slides off the coast Monday with
southerly return flow developing allowing for a warming trend
with highs in the mid 70s along the coast to lower 80s inland.
A significant northern stream wave dives swd across eastern
Canada with a cut-off low developing across New England mid-
week. The attendant cold front will approach the area Tue and is
progged to push across the region late Tue night. Instability
appears modest at best but with greater moisture and stronger
shear and forcing isolated to widely scattered showers and
thunderstorms will be possible during afternoon and evening.
Highs Tue expected in the mid 80s inland and upper 70s to around
80 along the coast.
The upper level cut-off low will remain quasi-stationary over
New England through Thu with the front stalled along or just off
the coast. Vort maximum rotating around the upper low could
provide enough forcing to bring isolated showers Wed into Thu.
The front slides a bit farther offshore late in the week with
high pressure ridging in from the NW with mainly dry conditions
expected. Temps mid to late week are expected to be near or
slightly below normal.

.AVIATION /22Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
SHORT TERM /through Sunday/...
As of 615 PM Sat...VFR conditions currently across the
terminals, with high confidence in sub-VFR ceilings advecting
back by late this evening and overnight. Expect MVFR cigs to
develop between 02-05z, with potential for a period of IFR cigs
overnight into early Sun morning at all terminals. NE winds will
limit the fog threat. Lower stratus should lift to VFR by late
morning and early afternoon, though expect broken mid and high
clouds to linger through the day. NE winds increasing to 10-15
kt overnight with gusts 20-25 kt Sun.
LONG TERM /Sunday night through Thursday/...
As of 5 AM Sat...Pred VFR conditions expected through the long
term. Winds diminish Sunday night into Monday as high pressure
builds into the area. Another cold front is expected to approach
the area late Tuesday and Tuesday night bringing scattered
showers and thunderstorms possible which may bring reduced
cigs/vsbys at times. Isolated showers may linger into Wed with
brief period of sub-VFR conditions possible

SHORT TERM /through Sunday/...
As of 615 PM Sat...Latest obs indicate rapidly increasing N/NE
winds 15-25 kt gusting to 30 kt with seas 3-4 ft. These
conditions will continue into Sunday as high pressure builds in
behind the front. Winds peak at 20-30 kt overnight with
occasional gusts to 35 kt over the outer central and southern
waters with seas building to 5-8 ft overnight. SCA conditions
continue Sun with strong NE winds 20-25 kt and gusts to around
30 kt. Could see occasional gusts to Gale Force Sunday morning
across the central and southern coastal waters and Pamlico
Sound. Sunday seas are fcst to reach 8-10 ft across the
northern and central waters and 5-8 ft across the southern
waters.
Patchy dense sea fog across the northern/central waters and
sounds will rapidly dissipate early this evening as the stronger
NE winds develop.
LONG TERM /Sunday night through Thursday/...
As of 515 AM Sat...High pressure builds in Sunday night into
Monday with winds diminishing to less than 15 kt by Monday, then
shifts to the S late Monday becoming SW 10-20 kt Monday night
and Tuesday with the high shifting offshore and a front
approaching from the NW. Seas gradually diminish Sunday night
into Monday with most waters below 6 ft early Monday morning,
but seas around 6 ft may linger across the outer portions of the
central waters through Monday evening. The front will push into
the waters early Wednesday with winds becoming N to NW around
15 kt or less and seas around 2-5 ft.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 3 PM Sat...The combination of high astronomical tides
(King Tides) and a period of stronger northeast winds are
expected to produce minor to locally moderate coastal flooding,
oceanside and soundside (over the southern Pamlico Sound, Bogue
Sound and adj tidal creeks) peaking this evening into Sunday
evening when the strongest winds and highest high tides are
forecast to occur. High tides occur between 7-9 PM tonight.
Rough surf and localized ocean overwash will also be possible,
particularly on the oceanside Outer Banks north of Hatteras
Sunday. CF Advisory continues for the potential for inundation
1-2 ft agl, locally up to 3 ft.
