.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will move over the Carolinas while gradually
dissipating through tomorrow. Upper level low pressure will keep
unsettled weather in place through the first half of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SUNDAY MORNING/...
As of 330 PM Sat...Surface ridging continues to dominate across
the area with moisture advection and isentropic lift continuing
to bring widespread mainly light rainfall through much of the
evening. Surface low pressure currently ~50 nm east of Dafuskie
Island SC will VERY slowly lift northward through sunset,
lifting faster overnight as the upper low begins to open into
the background flow. The associated warm front will reach the
coast south of Cape Lookout mid evening, helping erode the
surface ridging, and bringing modest instability and the
potential for come convective elements lifting into the area.
Rain rates of 1-2+ inches/hr in the convective elements could
bring some localized flooding issues, but widespread flash
flooding is not expected. Additionally, some convective
organization/mini supercells could bring a very low
severe/tornado threat to the beaches south of Cape Hatteras
tonight, but weak lapse rates over land mean that the majority
of the stronger and more organized convection should remain
further offshore near the Gulf Stream.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH 6 PM SUNDAY/...
As of 4 PM Sat...Surface low pressure moves inland over the
Carolinas and weakens Sunday. The warm sector will gradually
expand northward across the area through the morning, with some
weak convective activity remaining possible along the warm
front, but subsidence behind the front resulting in drying
moving in from the south later in the day. Additional rainfall
amounts of around 1-1.5 in possible mainly along the coast, but
the diminishing precip coverage later in the day will result in
a diminishing flood threat as well. Areas south of the Neuse
River could even see some sunshine later in the day, with temps
in the mid to upper 70s for most, an possibly 80s for areas that
receive several hours of sunlight.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 4 PM Sat...A mid level "Rex" block develops over the
CONUS this weekend into early next week, the unsettled pattern
is likely to linger into early next week before a return to more
typical summer weather occurs mid next week.

Sunday through Saturday...With mid level blocking, upper
troughing looks to persist into the early part of next week,
resulting in unsettled weather continuing at least through
Tuesday as upper low and weakening sfc low linger over the area.
More typical widely scattered diurnal convective pattern
expected mid to late week with temps returning to near normal
values.

.AVIATION /20Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
SHORT TERM /Through 06z Sun/...
As of 3 PM Sat...The combination of cooling temps and weakening
surface ridging will bring the transition from MVFR to IFR later
this afternoon through the evening, with IFR prevailing through
much of the night. A warm front lifting across the area will
bring the potential for periods of heavy rainfall overnight,
with IFR visibility at times and the potential for some
lightning. MVFR returns late morning through midday Sunday, with
some clearing beginning to work in from the south later in the
day.

LONG TERM /Sunday through Wednesday/...
As of 240 PM Sat...MVFR may linger into early Monday morning
before VFR returns. Numerous showers and isolated tstms Sunday,
slowly drying out from south to north through the day.
Occasional sub-VFR conditions possible into Wed mainly in
scattered showers/storms and in areas of early morning fog and
stratus.

.MARINE...
SHORT TERM /through tonight/...
As of 4 PM Sat...Poor marine conditions continue as low pressure
slowly lifts up the Southeast coast. Gales continue near and
south of Cape Hatteras through the evening, with wind gusts to
around 30 kt further north. The low will move inland over the
Carolinas and weaken Sunday, with the gradient weakening
accordingly. Marine winds weaken quickly through the early
morning hours with only moderate to light winds expected through
most of the day Sunday. Seas remain 10-14+ ft this evening
before steadily diminishing late tonight through Sunday.

LONG TERM /Sunday through Wednesday/...
As of 240 PM Sat...Seas subside to 4-7 ft by Sun evening, then
dropping below 6 ft Mon morning. Despite the weak low lingering
near/over the waters into Wed, conditions across the water will
be significantly better than the weekend. Light to moderate
winds through mid week, becoming more NE-E Tue and Wed with seas
generally 2-4 ft.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of noon Sat...A brief lull in winds this morning allowed
water levels to subside some across the southern Pamlico Sound
and Neuse River. Though the return of Gales this afternoon will
bring increasing water levels again, the morning lull was enough
to limit inundation values to 1-3 ft across all off the SWrn
Pamlico Sound, Neuse River, and Pamlico River areas, with the
Coastal Flood Warning now replaced with a Coastal Flood Advisory
through tonight.

Additionally, large swells from this system will lead to some ocean
side/beach impacts for east facing shorelines, namely dangerous
shore break, minor beach erosion and isolated areas of overwash.
Onslow County was added to the High Surf Advisory and remains
for Ocracoke Island and portions of the Outer Banks and Core
Banks for these hazards. There will also be a threat of
dangerous rip currents for most Eastern NC beaches through the
weekend and possible into early next week.
