A shortwave trough remains positioned over the Central/South plains
this afternoon and its associated cold front remains draped just
across the Appalachian Mountains. Ahead of this system, sfc flow over
South Florida has veered through the day today - northeasterly this
morning became southeasterly this afternoon and winds will continue
to veer overnight as this system's cold front pushes towards the
Florida peninsula. By Friday morning, winds will be more
southwesterly.
In terms of precipitation, this afternoon/evening will continue to
remain dry as sfc-level moisture does not extend much into the upper
atmosphere with 500mb RHs in the 5-10% range this afternoon. Friday
will bring an increased chance for showers as the front pushes
through the area. Moisture aloft will again be limited, as the
boundary will become significantly drier as it pushes further south.
No mention of thunder in the short term period as the upper
atmosphere will be far to dry to support stronger convection. Most
activity will come in the form of scattered showers with the threat
pushing southeast though the day Friday. In the morning hours,
Southwest Florida (Collier/Hendry/Glades) counties will have the
best shot at seeing shower activity and that will shift east-
southeast into Palm Beach, Broward and Miami Dade counties by early-
late afternoon. The best forcing will remain displaced to the north
so it's more likely to see stronger or heavier precip early in the
day Friday for northern parts of the CWA, with activity likely
drying out and becoming more isolated/weak as it approaches the East
Coast metro areas.
This frontal passage will be most notable in the cold air advection
it will induce in its wake. Models depict the low pressure system
deepening over the Southeast which will accelerate cold air
advection down the spine of Florida beginning on Friday night, but
more details on this cold outbreak will be included in the long term
forecast as most impacts will occur over the weekend.
High temperatures this afternoon have reached the upper 70s, and
Friday we can expect to briefly reach the upper 70s again, although
temperatures will quickly drop by the afternoon and evening hours as
the boundary passes through. Lows tonight will be in the upper 50s
to lower 60s.

A 1040 MB high over the northern portion of the United States
will move southeast and into the Florida Peninsula this weekend
behind a strong cold front moving through South Florida Friday
evening. This will allow for cold air to work into the region from
the north this weekend.
The latest model guidance continues trend cooler with the low
temperatures for this weekend across South Florida. Lows on Friday
night into Saturday morning will get down into the 40s over most
areas, except around 40 around the Lake Okeechobee region. The winds
will also be northwest at 5 to 10 mph over the interior areas to 10
to 15 mph over the metro areas of South Florida. This will allow for
the wind chill readings to fall down into the mid to upper 30s north
of Alligator Alley and lower to mid 40s south of Alligator Alley.
Highs on Saturday will struggle to get into the mid to upper 50s
over the northern areas and lower 60s over the Southern areas of
South florida due to the cold air advection.
Low temperatures on Saturday night into Sunday morning will be the
coldest for this weekend due to a mainly clear sky and lighter
winds. Low temperatures during this time frame will drop into the
mid to upper 30s over most areas of South Florida. The exception to
this will be will be west of Lake Okeechobee, where temperatures
will fall to near freezing. The east coast metro areas will fall
into the upper 30s to lower 40s.
Sunday has also trended downward in temperatures across South
Florida. The highs for Sunday are forecast to remain in the 60s
across the region with lows in the 40s over most areas, except
around 50 across the east cost metro areas and around 40 west of
Lake Okeechobee.
This will continue to be monitored over the next several days. If
the forecast lows continue to trend lower, then a freeze watch may
be needed for portions of the Lake Okeechobee region on Saturday
night into early Sunday morning.
During the early to middle portion of next week, the area of high
pressure will gradually move into the western Atlantic. This will
cause the winds to veer to the northeast, and then east southeast
during this time frame. While dry conditions will remain in place
throughout most of next week, temperatures will gradually
moderate as the week progresses. High temperatures will get back
into the 70s on Monday across most of the area, and then into the
upper 70s to around 80 on Tuesday. On Wednesday, high temperatures
could reach the lower 80s across interior portions of Southwest
Florida as the winds begin to veer more southerly.

winds turning WSW with gusty periods. A passing cold front will
bring low chances of showers, mainly between 14-20Z, starting at

showers are possible, which could result in brief MVFR periods.
Shower coverage should quickly diminish behind the front after
12-22Z.

Relatively light winds and low seas are forecast through tonight. On
Friday, a cold front will approach and ultimately pass through south
Florida, bringing and increase in winds and seas. Advisory level
winds are expected by late Friday afternoon, with Advisory level
seas building in Friday evening and Friday night. Periodic wind
gusts to gale force (over 34 kts) will be possible over the Gulf
Stream waters Friday night to early Saturday. Expect seas to peak
around 5-7 feet across the offshore Gulf waters, and 7-9 feet over
portions of the Gulf Stream in the Atlantic. A Small Craft
Advisory will take effect beginning 10AM Friday for all local
waters.

from the north. This will bring a much drier air mass to South
Florida during this time frame. Minimum relative humidity values

enhanced fire weather conditions during this time frame. On
Sunday, the northwesterly winds will diminsh, however, minimum
