.SYNOPSIS...28/931 PM.

High pressure will keep the very warm air mass in place through
Sunday. Temperatures along the coast will be closer to normal
with patchy low clouds and fog each night. Gusty northwest winds
are expected in southern Santa Barbara County each night through
Saturday night. Significant cooling on tap for Monday and into
the middle of next week. In addition, a weak upper level
disturbance will bring a slight chance of showers and
thunderstorms to eastern Los Angeles County early next week.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-MON)...29/257 AM.

Not much change today from ydy. A weak eddy is battling with weak
offshore flow from the north and only patchy low clouds have
formed. Hgts remain near 595 dam. Slight warming in the boundary
layer will bring a degree or two to most areas. The heat
advisories cover most of the interior where max temps are running
4 to 8 degrees above normal.

Stronger flow in the outer waters should spin up a better eddy
tonight and this and a surge of stratus currently working its way
down the coast from the Bay Area should mean that most coastal
areas will see low clouds by Sunday morning. The SBA south coast
will be the exception as another round of advisory level
Sundowners will affect the wester portion. There is a chance,
however, that a surge of debris clouds from the south will disrupt
the stratus formation.

Sunday will be at a minimum partly cloudy as mid level clouds
continue to spread up from the south. The current temperature
forecast is based on partly cloudy skies. If these temperatures do
verify then another round of heat advisories will be needed. It is
not a slam dunk forecast however as the clouds may well end up
thicker than fcst and temps cooler.

On Monday, a weak upper level disturbance and increased mid level
moisture is forecast to move into the forecast area from the S.
This will result in a slight chance (15%) of showers and TSTMs
over southern and eastern L.A. County starting soon after dawn and
continuing through the evening. The extra clouds and deeper
marine layer will bring 3 to 6 degrees of cooling to most of the
area and obviate the need for additional heat advisories.

.LONG TERM (TUE-FRI)...29/308 AM.

The GFS and EC deterministic and mean ensembles are in decent
agreement through the xtnd fcst period.

On Tuesday and Wednesday the upper high will push to the east and
hgts will fall to about 588 dam. The mid level moisture will
continue on Tuesday and it will be a partly to mostly cloudy day.
There will be just enough instability to warrant a 15% chc of
TSTMs over the eastern San Gabriels through the day. The lower
hgts and clouds will bring another 3 to 6 degrees of cooling to
the area and max temps will mostly end up below normal. The mid
and high level clouds will clear out later Tuesday and Wednesday
will be much sunnier. The lower hgts will bring another 1 to 2
degrees of cooling to the area.

The situation reverses on Thu and Fri as high pressure begins to
build backwards to the west. The pressure gradients weaken as well
and actual offshore flow develops from the N. Skies will be mostly
clear with only minimal night through morning low clouds. There
will be a little warming on Thursday but 6 degrees of warming is
likely next Friday. Another round of heat advisories is possible
starting next Saturday.

.AVIATION...29/0641Z.

At 0445Z at KLAX, the marine layer was 1000 feet deep. The top of
the inversion was 3800 feet with a temp of 29 C.

High confidence in valley and desert TAFs.

Low confidence in coastal TAFs. There is a 30 percent chc of no
cigs at KSMX and KSBA. There is a 40 percent chc that sites with
LIFR cigs fcst will remain IFR. Arrival timing could be off by as
much as 2 hours. Better confidence in VFR transition timing.

KLAX...Low confidence in TAF. There is a 30 percent chc cigs will
pull away from the terminal. There is a 40 percent chc that cigs
will remain at OVC008. Good confidence that it will be VFR at 17Z
with a 25 percent chc of a 16Z transition. Good confidence that
the east wind component late tonight will remain under 6 kts.

KBUR...High confidence in CAVU TAF.

.MARINE...29/200 AM.

For the outer waters, most recent guidance suggests strong Small
Craft Advisory (SCA) level winds with 30-40% chance for isolated
gale force gusts early this morning. Increased confidence in Gale
Force winds for Saturday evening. Therefore, the Gale Watch was
converted to a Gale Warning, however the start time was moved back
to 5pm, as not expecting widespread gale force winds until that
time, peaking around 8-11 PM Saturday night. There is another 40%
chance for gale force winds to Sunday afternoon/evening, that
looks similar in strength and coverage to Saturday evening. Then,
SCA conds are possible through early next week. Another chance for
Gale Force winds comes around Thursday and Friday of next week.
Steep, choppy seas with short periods are likely through the
period.

For the inner waters North of Point Sal, SCA conditions are

There is a 20-30% chance for Gale Force wind gusts across the
western portions each afternoon/evening through Sunday.

For the inner waters South of Point Conception, there is a 60%
chance of SCA level winds across the western portion of the Santa
Barbara Channel afternoons/evenings through Sunday. Also expecting
strong winds near western portions of the Santa Barbara south
coast where isolated gusts near gale force are possible Saturday
night and Sunday night. Elsewhere, good confidence in winds
remaining below SCA levels.

Patchy dense fog will affect portions of the coastal waters at
times through the weekend due to a shallow marine layer. The fog
will be most extensive during the late night through morning hours
and will reduce visibilities to less than one mile at times.
