.SYNOPSIS...25/227 AM.

Temperatures today will rise to above normal and the offshore
flow will strengthen with significant gusts and high surf. Strong
offshore flow will develop tonight and will last through Friday.
Saturday temperatures will drop, preceding the chance of light
rain Sunday into Monday.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-FRI)...25/254 AM.

Weak cyclonic flow covers the state as it sits on the west side of
a humongous CONUS spanning trof. It will be a be a very nice day
with weak offshore flow and sunny skies allowing for a 2 to 4
degree warm up across most of the area. This will make today only
the second day this month with above normal temperatures.

A big offshore push will begin shortly after sunset as a portion
of the main trof sharpens and juts westward. This will push some
more cold air into the region and also turn the upper level flow
more to the NE. The SFC high across the Great Basin will strengthen
overnight and by Thursday morning there will be a 7 to 8 mb
offshore push from the east. Warning level gusts will develop in
the LA mtns, the eastern portions of the VTA mtns, the western
portions of the Santa Monica mtns, and the Santa Clarita Vly. The
rest of the csts/vlys either side of the VTA/LA county line will
experience advisory level gusts form 45 to 55 mph. Lastly
advisory level winds are likely across Catalina Island - mostly
across the higher elevations but gusty winds will also affect the
harbor. Please see the product LAXNPWLOX for all details on the
warnings and advisories. The cool air advection will actually
overwhelm the adiabatic warming and most of the area will cool 3
to 6 degrees (only 1 to 2 degrees across the Central Coast).

The winds will decrease Thursday evening the areas with warning
level winds may have advisory level gusts through Friday morning.

Friday will be another pleasant day as the winds quickly fall off
in the morning. A ridge will nose into the state from the NW.
Areas that experienced the most cool air advection on Thursday
(VTA and LA counties) will see significant warming from the vlys
inward. Weaker offshore flow will bring cooling to the coasts.

.LONG TERM (SAT-TUE)...25/307 AM.

Another inside sliding trof will moving into the state on
Saturday. It will bring enough clouds to make the day a partly
cloudy one. Falling hgts and increasing onshore flow will knock 4
to 8 degrees off of the max temps which will end up 3 to 6 degrees
blo normal.

Both the deterministic runs of the GFS and EC bring a pos tilt
trof into the state from the east over the water and into Srn CA.
Because the trof does get far enough west to entrain ocean water
both mdls bring rain to the area. The ensembles are another story
and both the GEFS and EPS ensembles have a great spread in the
rain forecast with many members completely dry or exhibiting
timing differences. This variation in wet/dry and precip timing
takes the very pro rain fcst given by the deterministic mdls down
to only a chc or slight chc. A few members do show a decent amount
of rain but hard to see this system putting out anything more
than a half inch of rain and could easily see much less than that.
Snow levels are on the lower side with this system having a more
north/south trajectory to it so snow levels could get down to
3500-4000 feet as early as Monday morning. Good confidence that
both Mon and Sun will be cloudy and cool with max temps falling
each day. Most high temps on Monday will be in the mid 50s or 8 to
12 degrees blo normal.

Tuesday will be just as cool and the wake up temps for all of the
coasts (save for LA county) and vlys should be in the lower to mid
30s.

At 0445Z at KLAX, the marine layer was 700 ft deep. the top of the
inversion was at 1500 ft with a temp of 14 C.

Good confidence in CAVU conds at all sites.

Moderate confidence in stronger winds fcst after 18Z. These winds
could develop 2 hours early or 3 hours late. The winds will bring
a chc of LLWS. There will be lgt ocnl mdt turbc over and near to
hier trrn aft 20Z.

KLAX...Good confidence in 00Z TAF. Any east wind component is
expected to remain below 6 kts.

KBUR...Good confidence in CAVU TAF. A chance of LLWS and lgt ocnl
mdt turbc will develop aft 20Z.

.MARINE...24/921 PM.

Marginal Small Craft Advisory (SCA) seas of 8 to 11 feet will
continue across the Outer Waters through early Wednesday morning,
with high confidence that seas will fall below SCA levels by noon
Wednesday.

A strong Santa Ana wind event is expected late Wednesday night
through Thursday afternoon. A Gale Watch has been posted for the
Inner Waters south of Point Mugu with a 60-70 percent chance of
Gale conditions in this time. The strongest winds within this area
will likely be between Point Mugu and Santa Monica and south of
Palos Verdes. Local Gale conditions are possible between Ventura
Harbor and Point Mugu across eastern portions of the southern
Outer Waters. Breaking waves will be possible within east facing
harbors in this area by Thursday morning, including Avalon Harbor
and Smugglers Cove.
